In Gallows Bay Marina? Here's a link to street view. I couldn't find it
but no idea when Google's camera drove through.
Top left it says June 2016, no too current but great idea!

FYI- Not sure if it is for sale, but pretty sure there is a 43 sitting on
the hard in Gallows Bay on St Croix. Been there for several years. Always
wondered what the story was, and unsure about status. Light blue hull.
Ketch rigged, which seems rare.

The newer C's such as the 99,110,115 & 121 use CoreCell foam rather than
balsa core. Here is a good article explaining the pros and cons of different
core types. The biggest advantage for CoreCell is that it doesn't absorb water.

As we once again consider a boat with cored hull (LF43 or LF38), I am
reminded of why we eventually chose our current 35 four years ago. I
couldn't be sure of the hull integrity without an expensive survey, and at
the low price range we could afford, avoiding a cored hull just removed

Hi Chuck,
Sorry, I should have clarified that I meant balsa cored hull only. I'm not
concerned with decks, and am comfortable fixing small areas there. I don't
believe many boats used balsa cored hulls other than C, and certainly not
many meant for bluewater cruising, but I could be wrong. Having
Only three LF43s that I know of for sale right now, 2 on YW, and one on FB.
No idea how many were made, and I suspect any that have seen hull damage in
the past 10-15 years were instantly written off (which of course is a
concern for offshore...)
We are also considering the Nelson-Marek designed
Balsa Core: I'm pretty sure balsa coring was used by almost every manufacturer
from the 70's, 80's and 90's to save weight, add stiffness, and problems can be
detected by a decent survey. C used Balsa but so did Pearson, O'Day,
Columbia, Ericson, Swan, Baltic, Beneteau, Jeanneau, Peterson,
Are you referring to the top or lower lifeline? In the older boats the top
was a cast bronze eye, with, I think a half inch od X 16 ga. Tube bushing
for the lower -

I tried the Heyco 2044 SB-437-5 White SNAP Bushings. They didn't work
overly well.

I have replaced Windstar's (33-2) lifelines, and need to find replacement
bushings. The originals have n ID of .309, the replacements I've seen are
either too large (OD) or too small (ID). Does anyone have a source for
original sized bushings?
Thx. Dave

My lf39 has been raced in the Pacific by a previous owner. She is still very
solid. I have sailed her from Washington to Zihuatanejo with no concerns, or
problems. My only current concern is the steering cables in the conduits. Doug

Should clarify - the hole in the stanchion is .437”
(7/16”) diameter, the I.D. of the original bushing is .309 ish. It appears to
be a flanged, ‘top hat’ style. Heyco makes one, p/n 2044, which might work,
but this is definitely not what was supplied originally.

I looked at the Caliber 40 Collision Bulkhead ++ The Tankage is good on the
LRC Calibers++ but at 6’2” no way I fit in the side facing Nav station where
your feet are up on the curved part of the hull. Totally uncomfortable for me
at this important cruising seat. If it didn’t have that issue
Sure – that was not meant to mean the boats have a problem or are bad in any
way.
If people like them, they’ll keep them!
If you want a Catalina 40, there are tons of them to look at. That makes
shopping easy. That doesn’t mean the boats are good, but they aren’t hard to
find.

I disagree. I knew someone with a Caliber 40 LRC and I really liked the boat.
Not a race boat at all, but a faster boat and better laid out for offshore than
an Island Packet.
As for the Landfall 43s, the biggest issue with them is that there are very few
for sale anywhere in the world. You do
Joe,
I didn’t say they were bad, just knock-offs. In the mid40’s+, the IP’s seemed
well suited for serious travel and quite a number have circumnavigated the
world. There lack of balsa wood fiberglass laminate material avoids a lot of
trouble in the South Pacific

I worked on both of them back in the day. The IP series are all full keel
boats with barn door rudders. They can be quite the pain to get into a slip
in a cramped marina. The one on my pier can just barely do it WITH a bow

The Calibre boats are long-ish fin keel boats with skeg-hung
