Dennis,

Thank you very much for following through with this for me.

I probably end up using the new China-cast smaller ones, but it was worth
checking out.

Thanks again, stay safe.

I stopped in Southern Cross today to talk to Mike about this boat.
Apparently he's had a lot of interest in it both for parts and for sale
intact. As it stands now, he has a couple boats ahead of the 35 for
parting out and may sell it intact.

Bottom line, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting to get a part from this boat.

I may stop in every so often to check status on it.

Well there ya’go!

A fellow here at our club had a Nelson/Marek 50’ racer whose time had come and
gone, and after years of trying to sell it and paying ever increasing storage
fees did just that!

On a calm day, he took it down to Buffalo to a Broker, and somehow ended up in
Canadian waters, co-incidentally in the deepest part of the lake.
Unfortunately, a terrible fire erupted in the engine room and burned the boat
to the waterline! As luck would have it, he fortunately he happened to be
towing a RIB, so he was able to save himself.

As time goes on there will likely be a sad parade of boats to the breaker’s
yard that would have been repaired in past years. Only so many people want to
spend $30,000 to create a boat worth $12,000 on a good day.
I actually think about this, if I ever sold my boat I am not sure I could stand
watching her sit someplace and decay. Almost rather give her a Viking funeral

The unfortunate reality is that boats are expensive to maintain. Allow the
maintenance and repairs to stack up and pretty soon those expenses exceed
the book value of the boat. FWIW, there is a neglected Tartan 3700 from
1974 in Solomons which is currently free to a good home. I'm confident
that it will soon be part of the "parade". If anyone is interested or
knows someone interested let me know and I will forward the details.

The original 35 design was called the Redwing 35 and was built by
Hinterhoeller, and was then renamed the C 35 after the company merger - one
of which was Hinterhoeller.
So the mold did not have the Cuthbertson star molded in.
Indeed the Mark II used the same hull mold as a starting point . . . .

The 35 Mk2 does have a cove strip, just no star / sword.    The cove
strip ends about eight inches aft of the in-hull running light which I
think was unique to this vintage C

I believe neither the 35-1 or 35-2 have the star and dagger. I believe that I
once read that the 35-1 was one of the first boats designed under the C
umbrella and the star and dagger had not yet been adopted as a distinctive
mark. For the 35-2, I believe C modified the same hull mold they had used
for 35-1 with modifications to the stern. So no star and dagger for it.

Re: Stus-List C 35 about to be scrapped in Pensacola, FL

2020-07-01 Thread Ken Heaton via CnC-List
The Mark 1 doesn't have the star and sword. At least my friend's 1973 C
Mk.1 doesn't.

This article says that neither the Mark 1 or 2 have them:
http://www.cncphotoalbum.com/brochures/35foot/35mkii/index2.htm

The major features of the boats are as follow;
-The one feature which sets all MKI and II 35's apart from
all other C models is the absence of the trademark cove
stars at the fore and aft extensions of the cove stripe.

-The MKI did not receive the stars because of time limitations
for the first hull, thus there was no ties to install the
stars on the plug.

-The MKII plug was made off the C 35 MKI hull. The plug
being fibreglass could not (at that time) be modified, by
carving out stars,

My mistake on assuming the 1974 35 was a Mk1, as Don noted the 1974 is a Mk2.
I first looked for the iconic star & sword, but I did not see it. This is why
I check and noted the hull number.I recall seeing only a strait hull line
going forward which ends up by the bow followed by a forward embedded bow
navigation light.

Stus-List C 35 about to be scrapped in Pensacola, FL

2020-06-30 Thread Dreuge via CnC-List
Hi,

I went looking around a marine salvage yard today and came across a 1974 C 35
(CCY353221174) which is about to be parted. The vessel did not look damaged so
I asked about it. The owner of the yard (Southern Cross Salvage) said that it
is being scrapped because there is no vessel title. Seems odd. While it is
well aged and a bit neglected, this would be a good chance for 35-1 owners to
get some original parts.
