Stus-List masthead sheave thoughts?

My all-rope main halyard is wearing somewhat after 4 seasons or so, and I should probably replace it.. It is often stated that when transitioning from wire/rope to all rope halyards, that sheaves must be replaced with an appropriate type, presumably without any wire groove. The main halyard is th

Follow up on this thread for future readers: I successfully reached out Klacko and Dan returned my call and left voicemail to say that several manufacturers supplied masts for that vintage vessel but that mine was one of the best. He didn't specifically say whether it was Klacko but added that the

Hi Len - thanks for the quick reply! I left a voicemail at Klacko, their website says reduced hours and appropriate precautions are in place for the times. I'll update when I get more info. I looked at the mast and it has a manufacturer's logo affixed but it is unreadable. Can you tell if it's the

Try a good scrubbing before buying new...my 37 came with sheaves that were marginally operable; I took them out (mast down) and used a very fine emery cloth on both the axle-pin and the inside of the hole in the sheave...nothing was physically wrong with them, after cleaning they work great; my

Tim, I don’t have any drawings but I own a 78 36-1. I took my sheaves off about 10 years ago and if I remember correctly a single pin is used for both sheaves. If you can put a piece of wire or twine around the sheave to hold it in place you can safely remove the pin and pull the sheaves ou

Tim, I had a 1981 C&C 36KCB a decade ago and I believe Klacko Marine in Ontario originally provided that spar. If Dan is still working he will likely be able to answer any question about it. If not his son is very knowledgeable too. I believe there is Klacko marine and Klacko spars. Try calling

Please share drawings or experience with halyard screeching and/or lubricating masthead sheaves on C&C 36-1 or similar. Main halyard sheave at the masthead makes a heck of noise when hoisting, I mean really, it broadcasts a horrific screech to the entire basin as we raised the main. Sounds like a

My boat's on the hard prefacing a Matthew haulout.  While she's out, she's due for some bottom work and thruhull replacement.  I'm going to replace the main and jib halyard sheaves at the masthead while she's out of the water, and while I know it's easier to replace them with the mast stepped, t
