Amen, the docks are under water in St. Michaels as well. It's amazing that
the wind (plenty of wind) can blow that much water out of the Bay. And then
watch it come back in.

Because it is so shallow, Lake Pontchartrain water levels can fluctuate a
lot with the wind. Years ago, I was downrigging my beach catamaran at the
boat launch in front of my yacht club on the north shore of the lake. A
strong wind line blew in from the south. The water around my ankles rose 6

And it might just be the screens. When I have a good dock hose
available, I'll stick the hose right up against the vent on the outside
and push water back down the vent line. It blows any salt buildup off
the screens. I've also noted that the screens will turn green and
crusty just from the

As to the vent, I think I can get to the bottom of the vent line fairly
easily. I doubt I can reach the other end from inside. How is the vent cap
attached to the hull? Can I take it off and get to that end of the hose if

Toilet rebuilds are not fun but not difficult. It takes me about two hours
for a total stripdown and rebuild on my Raritan PHII. What model toilet? If
it's a Jabsco it might be easier to just replace it. If it's just replacing
the joker valve, that's a ten-minute job.

Thanks for all the tips. Jocker valve makes sense. I will likely try the lube idea before rebuilding, but I need to pull out the manual and see how challenging the rebuild would be. As to the vent, I think I can get to the bottom of the vent line fairly easily. I doubt I can reach the other end
David, before you rebuild the pump, see if leaving a gallon or two in the
system for a day or two will rid the joker valve of salt deposits.

David,
A leaking joker valve may allow the bowl level to rise over time. If your
head is below the waterline, I suppose it's possible for some intake

I have noticed that the water level in the bowl of my head tends to increase
over time. It is not close to overfilling, but when I get to the boat is is
several inches higher than when I left the boat and after pumping it out
Joker valve, plus if your vent line is plugged you would be pressurizing
the holding tank when you pump into it.

On the water issue it sounds like the joker valve is failing - included in the
basic rebuild kit. The water is coming from what was left in the hoses.
Wouldn't worry about the thru hulls.
No idea on the vent - perhaps disconnect and run a smaller length of hose
through it?
