were likely several thousand Mountain Bluebirds present and perhaps
200-300 Western Bluebirds present (perhaps 15% of MOBL). Birders do

A female Black-chinned Hummingbird briefly visited my feeder (Pinyon - Juniper
- Blue Grama Grass habitat) this afternoon (4/20/09). My previous early date
is 19 April for a bird that was apparently just moving through. Black-chinned
Hummers that stick around here usually arrive in

Today after releasing the surviving Mountain Bluebird, I saw a dark morph
Broad-winged Hawk just north and west of Kingfisher Bridge.
Almost all the bluebirds, both species, have departed Chatfield. I found a few
near the old heron overlook.

I didn't think this was a winter resident here, but almost exactly
once a month, from Dec 7th through two days ago, I have had four Green-
Tailed Towhee sightings in my backyard. I'm assuming it's the same

Today was a big day for Cooper's and Sharp-shinned Hawk migration! 33
accipiters flew past Dinosaur Ridge. In the afternoon when the wind became
quite strong the accipiters would pop up at the south point of the ridge and be
past almost too soon to focus binoculars on them.
Two Peregrine
Was walking the dog at Waneka lake today - 4/20 - at dusk and had a bald
eagle ( immature, I think) fly over head and roost between Waneka and
Greenlee.
