Hi Everyone--
Although we didn't have a mink sniffing our shoes, Marcia Marvin and I
nonetheless had a successful trip to Cottonwood Hollow today 8/2. We arrived
about 8:40, about the time everyone else was leaving. We spent the next hour
watching odonates (Widow Skimmers, Common Whitetails, and
While not easy to find, we got a couple of nice looks at the male
least bittern at Artist's Point, Cottonwood Hollow this morning (8/2)
between 7:45 and 8:30. Thanks to everyone who posted for helping us
find this lifer!
We were facing west from the sign that points north to Artist's Point

Friday I had the first hummingbird of the season at my flowerbed. Saw it
yesterday and this morning. I think it is a female Calliope, but am not that
good at females and young male ID. Anyway a joy to watch. Friday it was very
hungry and just flitted from blossom to blossom.
