Don Beltz reports a probable adult BLACK-TAILED GULL at Cherry Creek State Park

Don called me and said that the gull was actively
flying near the marina off the fisherman's pier at the
Cherry Creek Marina yesterday. It was an adult gull,
about the size of a Ring-billed Gull, with a black tail
band, dark wing tips, yellow legs. The tip of the bill
was black and he could not
It is not a great photo, but at least it is identifiable. However, in the
photo it looks a lot more like a white-striped than a tan-striped, which makes
me wonder if a) I misidentified the thing in all those fast glimpses; b) the
photo is lying; or c) there's more than one of them around.
Glen Walbek, Joey Kellner, others and I looked through the many gulls at
Cherry Creek this AM. Most of them were loafing around two pools
of open water on the east side and southeast corner. Almost all the
gulls were Ringers, with a few California and Herring Gulls. Glenn
spotted a possible
Keep looking! I didn't get to see them in IA!
IA had its first state record of a Black-tailed Gull at Saylorville Res on
17 Nov-6 Dec 2007.
And its second state record of a Slaty-backed Gull (for 10 d) at L Manawa
(Council Bluffs/Omaha) 25 Dec 2006 (see cover and article in IBL on
South Shore Marina tires at Pueblo Reservoir (230pm-5pm is the best time for
gull viewing):

2 Glaucous Gull (1 adult and 1 very white sub-adult--first or second year bird)
1 adult Lesser Black-backed Gull
