I had 3-4 Evening Grosbeaks fly over my neighborhood 10 minutes ago. They were
flying south near Mulberry and Grant just north of campus. I couldn't determine
if they were setting down nearby or not.
Happy Birding!

I spent a few hours at Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR yesterday, and I was
blown away by the number of birds present. Maybe that's normal for this
time of year, but I've never seen anything like it. The diversity was low,
but there were huge flocks (in the thousands) of gulls, crows, and
starlings.
Currently being viewed.

All,
John Vanderpoel and I saw an immature Ross' Goose at Dodd Reservior, which
is just west of Niwot around 9:30am. Scott Severs saw the bird yesterday
evening at the Fairground Lake in Longmont: east of Hover Road and south
of the St Vrain River.
On my way home I stopped in at Center Green

10:45 AM today. I considered dark morph winter raptors, but the dihedral
posture, no-headed look, lack of flapping, and color pattern were helpful
clues, and I became certain after I saw it teetering in

I have posted some photos of the Larimer County Brant, the Boulder County
Bay-breasted Warbler and the three Chen geese reported from Longmont, which
includes the reported juvenile Ross's Goose, the adult white Snow Goose and the
adult blue Snow Goose. These are in my recent bird pix gallery at
In the north east part of the park. Found by John Drummond and seen by many on
the Arkansas Valley Audubon trip. It has a yellowish breast. Probably immature
male.

I agree with Nick on the age and sex of the Boulder Bay-breasted Warbler. I
would also like to thank Alan for finding this beauty and getting the word out.
Now, if someone would have told me 4 days ago this warbler would be in the same
tree after all this time, I would have argued. Further,

Upon studying photos of this May's Two Buttes Black-throated Green Warbler, it
became apparent the bird is actually a Black-throated Green x Townsend's
I thought the previous late date was earlier, but I see now that the dates
on line must be the first date only, as there are no ranges. is this a
review species? I tried to file a report today and the system said no
documentation was needed.

I'm glad that the Bay-breasted has stayed around for a while. As far as I
can tell it is the first for Boulder County since 1988 and, as of today,
the latest ever in fall for Colorado. A strange thing to find outside my
office.

I second Glenn's kudos to Dave. Dr. Dave is a neverending fountainhead of
great birding information. Aphids in November. Who knew?

Thanks to Nick getting some photo documentation shots of the Ross's-type
goose at Dodd Reservoir, I believe there are two in Boulder County. The one
I observed yesterday at Fairgrounds Lake (at essentially the same time as
Nick was over at Dodd) was a very white individual appearing adult-like
For fun I created a Bird Trax application on Google sites for Boulder
County. It documents recent (2 weeks) sightings, rarities, and checklists
on three tabs using eBird data.
You can check it out here:

The Arkansas Valley Audubon field trip that I lead today around Pueblo, saw
some more interesting things.
At Pueblo Reservoir,
Some additional information on the Ross's Goose Peter Gent and I had today
at Dodd Reservoir. This is a different individual than the diminutive
immature Snow Goose our group found yesterday afternoon at Dodd Res.. That
individual was swimming with a Blue morph and adult white Snow goose and may

Greetings COBirders,
At Longmont’s Boulder County Fairgrounds pond, northeast corner of S. Hover
Rd. and Boston Ave, Tim Smart spotted a few interesting geese, previously
reported by Scott Severs. Here are 5 photos, including an Eared Grebe we
saw at Chatfield. http://bit.ly/1azutXe
Best,
Over a 27 hour span between 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and 10:00 a.m. Sunday
morning I visited Dodd Reservoir three times, all three times there were a few
white geese present along with several hundred white-cheeked geese.
Saturday morning at 7:00 I stopped at Dodd on my way to the Niwot
On Thursday, 11/7, I saw a flock of 20-25 white geese flying NW of IBM on
CO 52 the Diagonal. Since I was at the light, did not have my bins handy
and rushing to see the Bay-breasted Warbler I moved on.
Today, Scott Rashid and I found two Snow Goose, 1 white 1 blue, and a

Hey all,
If someone out there is knowledgeable about Bobcats and Lynx, tell me what
are the chances of a Lynx being in Golden? We had one or the other this
afternoon near our house which is just north of Heritage Square. I did some
research but I am still just as confused.
I have noticed that
