Very unusual at any time of year was a Brown Thrasher feeding on berries near
the water treatment plant in Alamosa (Alamosa County). We got about 14 inches
of snow in the San Luis Valley over the weekend and the storm had migrating
birds looking for food.

spots from the legs are visible above the water

Hi,
In the Centerra area of Loveland the BRANT continues in the southwest part

In mid-morning I observed a DUNLIN on the south shore of Equalizer Lake.

Among the 6 Juncos at Fawn Brook Inn Sunday were two that appeared to be of the
White-winged race. Does anyone know if they were likely that race or what
Sibley describes as the rare Slate-colored with white wing bars. We were
unable to compare body or bill size with the others as they kept
So we know the Centennial Park Prothonotary Warbler's version of cranberries
consists of European Buckthorn berries.
As for meat, excellent photos shared with me by Kris Petersen show a hairless
caterpiller in the beak of the Prothonotary. The bird found this morsel at the

Hi Cobirders
I found a single American Dipper in Clear Creek at Lowell Blvd. (Adams Co)
today at 11:48 a.m. It was directly below the bridge and then flew
downstream below the check dam. I've found Dippers here in the winter for
about six years. Look for them here and downstream to the I-76
Hi Robert,
They could certainly be of either race. Both occur here, and currently I
have a few of both races at my feeders daily here in Teller County at
8,500'.
The white-winged is a noticeably larger junco and a very light gray. If you
get good looks, they can be distinguished by having
Hi all,
I'd like to add a little to what Jeff said so well about junco races, if I may.
I band juncos in my yard in Mountain Shadows in Colorado Springs, and while we
get mostly Pink-sided, Oregon, and Gray-headed, we also get regularly
Slate-colored (with a few Cassiar/cismontanus), and

Today, in Denver County I saw one, Lesser Black-backed Gull, from the fence,
[which borders Marston Reservoir on the west side]. The water has dropped some
in Marston. If you look from the west fence, next to the road, you will see a
sand spit[this spit has been under water for about 6 weeks].
