Yesterday, Nick Moore and I wandered about much of eastern Yuma County. Stalker
Lake, per usual, was really the highlight with a Myrtle Warbler and RC Kinglet,
both of which were a tad early for NE Colorado, and a Hermit Thrush which was a
couple weeks early, Even more
I was at the campground Saturday afternoon. The creek is still flowing strongly
and you would need at least hip boots to get across at the shallowest spots.
There wasn't much in the way of bird activity but the wildlife highlight of the
day was seeing a beaver in the creek! I was walking along

I'm watching and listening to an adult male Eastern Bluebird right now, Sunday,
April 6. It's at the trailhead off McCaslin, at the far eastern end of the
Coalton Open Space.

This morning we found a White-winged Dove at Fountain Creek Regional Park.
It was near the nature center and flew north. Things are starting to liven
up in the park: mourning doves are back as well as grackles and one
cormorant too.

We searched for the better part of an hour for Dusky Grouse at Cuchara
Mountain Resort...with no luck. We did have a flock of around 15 Evening
Grosbeak, 7 Wild Turkey, Several Northern Flicker, Numerous

not find the Horned Grebes. Did find FOS Pied-billed Grebe however on the
lake.

Hello,This bright morning I had 4 White Pelicans, 4 Eared and 2 Pied
billed Grebes out in Firestone. This afternoon I have learned of the
passing of Peter Matthiessen, Long Island, N.Y. author, naturalist,
environmentalist. Peter lived many years close to Sagg Pond, a noted
shorebird locale
Highlights of this morning's Boulder Bird Club First Sunday trip to Walden
and Sawhill Ponds included:
--All 3 Teal species (Cinnamon was at the far end of the first Sawhill Pond
on the right as you walk through the gate from Walden)
--An incessantly calling Virginia Rail (hidden in the reeds at
Dinosaur Ridge

This morning, I went to Red Rocks and saw the Fox Sparrow(slate-colored) and
Peregrine Falcon reported by Mike Henwood yesterday. The Peregrine Falcons
look like they're going to next again on Ship Rock. I saw several groups of
White-throated Swifts but struck out on the Golden-crowned
An early evening visit to Marston Lake from the northwest end on April 5
produced a similar species mixed to my visit on April 1, and included a 1st
cycle LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 2 CINNAMON TEAL, 2 GREATER SCAUP, a nice
count of 37 RUDDY DUCKS, 1 BALD EAGLE, etc.
