I led a field trip to Loveland lakes in Larimer County today, for Fort Collins

This evening while traveling to Loveland, Jeff and I stopped at Lower
Latham Reservoir around sunset. At 5:10pm, well after sunset (getting
very dark), I spotted a Short-eared Owl flying on the north side of
CR48. It made a couple passes close to our car before dropping down

This morning, seven of us on a DFO trip enjoyed the companionship and
endured the snowy weather and a temperature that started at 29 degrees and
ended at 17 degrees, to sample two gravel pits & two yards within 5 miles of
downtown Franktown.
At the two gravel pits, we counted 21 species
Birders,
I have at least 2 if not 3 WTSP now. There were just 2 white morphs in the

The Evening Grosbeak has been in and out but right now a hoard of
Red-winged Blackbirds has taken over the grosbeak tray but the lone sisk

I spent a cold, snowy, and windy hour this morning at Red Rocks. I saw the
Eastern Fox Sparrow, adult Golden-crowned Sparrow, a couple of Cassin's

Golden-crowned but gave up when I couldn't feel my fingers. I last sa
Birders,
The WTSP has just made an appearance at our feeders in front of the house.

The purple finch showed up at about 11:15am for about 3 minutes. Came in
with a huge flock of robins. Haven't seen it since. Roads are getting ugly
up here in Longmont.

I found two American Dippers in Clear Creek east of Lowell Blvd. today. One
was below the I-76 bridges east of Lowell. The other was just downstream
from the Lowell bridge. That was where I saw one yesterday.

It's saturday morning and a larger than usual flock of finches is here, but
the Purple Finch is not with them. I am hopeful that the forthcoming snow
will drive the birds to my feeders.
It was hard to find yesterday and only showed for a few minutes. Will email

Adult Golden-crowned Sparrow and red Fox Sparrow continue this morning at the

Friday afternoon, arrived at BJR around 3:15 pm.
Bill M., John D., and Leonard L. already on site.
They pointed out the two beautiful Tundra Swans and the White-winged
Scoters. They also found a Long-tailed Duck. Also of interest to me were
the three Red-breasted Mergansers. Lifer for me. Thank
