I finally had a day off and made it to Prewitt Reservoir, and found the
Western Gull. It is still present, at least as of 9 ish this morning. I
found it on a sand bar with a whole lot of pelicans and Franklin's Gulls,
the pelicans gave me an idea of that bird's size, what a large gull! It was

Today I had a *Carolina Wren* in a pocket of dense, willow-like brush that
borders a grove of cottonwoods just west of Warembourg Open Space in the
town of Louisville. I last saw the bird at 5:40 this evening, and could not
locate it later. Other birds of interest include *3
Based on his informative post, today I followed some of Bill Kaempfer's steps
from his NE Colo trip last weekend. He was right about Jumbo Res shorebird
habitat. Near the middle of the south end there's a small peninsula with a
brown building/gray roof, I drove past it and parked near the tip.
I made it out to Stalker Pond just outside Wray in Yuma County late this
afternoon. A stiff wind was blowing from the south toward a large weather
system just to the north of town that included a severe thunderstorm warning

We just finished our first official week of banding at Barr. There was
also some banding the prior week, as our seasonal banders (folks going to
Chico, Nebraska, and Ridgway) were getting oriented.
We've had a good start, banding 50 or more birds in 3 of the first 10 days.

Went to Crow Valley today with Nina Routh. We didn't get there until 10:30am
and birded until 3. Birdy enough to be interesting for the first part, with
lot of newly arrived Wilson's Warblers and Chipping Sparrows. While eating

Just got back from a bike ride out to Heil Ranch where I found 2 juvenile
Red-headed Woodpeckers by the old ranch buildings right by the cattle guard. I
watched them for about 1 1/2 hrs hoping to see an adult or two, but none showed
up. They were in trees, on posts, and on utility posts on
