The Black Scoter and 3 Surf Scoters that Bob reported this morning were
still present at Aurora Reservoir this afternoon. Repeated scans with a
scope turned up additional goodies:
3 White-winged Scoters
Pacific Loon
Red-necked Grebe
Glaucous Gull (adult)
2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls (adults)
3
A big thanks to Alec for getting the word out to so many people so quickly
today! The bird remained until after sundown.
This Snow Bunting looks to be a female (based upon the black based greater
coverts). Not sure if this is a first year female or an adult.
I'd like to thank all the birders
Grebes are awesome. It looks more like a like a young pied-billed grebe to
me. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Pied-billed_Grebe/id

Today I photographed a leucistic Dark-eyed (Slate-colored) Junco in my yard.
Turns out it's the same bird I photographed here in March 2013! Think of all
the traveling that bird has likely done in the past 3 1/2 years and the miracle
of it finding its way back to my yard. See links below for
I went to Timnath Reservoir today at noon to scan the large group of
geese at the reservoir. In amongst approximately 5000 "white-cheeked"
geese were a single Blue-phase Snow Goose and 3 Greater White-
fronted geese (2 adults and a juvenile).
Again wish to proclaim that I found a Tamron lens
Birders,
There is a female Long-tailed Duck on Lake Hasty below John Martin Dam
this afternoon. This bird shouldn't be that hard to find, except that it
spends most of it's time underwater, so it might take a little time. It
was in the south part of the lake south of the pole that doesn't
On 11/23 in Del Norte, we have a Northern Shrike perched atop a tall spruce
tree that was attracting White-Winged Crossbills about 10 days ago.

Looking at it now- friendly, exposed and alone at the model airplane field
parking lot. Metro listers-now is a nice chance to see this often very tricky
CO species. Clean photos taken; will upload later.

A DFO trip led by Paul Slingsby found 20 Barrow's Goldeneyes at the Silverthorn
treatment plant. The birds were on the large private pond visible from behind
the plant.

Three of us saw 1 Black Scoter and 3 Surf Scoters, all female or immature
from a point on the south side between the two inlets on the south. You can
park on Calhoun Street and walk in one mile (no fee to walk in). Also one
Common Loon. I think next time I will bring my bike as it is 8 miles
Just had a northern goshawk bus my feeders perched on my backyard fence for a
few seconds not long enough for me to get photos but a very nice adult
.Northern goshawk hopefully he'll come back for photos. Definitely a new yard
bird for me.Loch Kilpatrick, Parker Colorado

OK, after some feedback from people that know a lot more than I do, this
bird is most likely a Common Loon. The primary indicator is the line on
the neck which separates the white on the front and the darker color on the
back of the neck. There is a white 'bubble' near the top of the neck
