Visited Walden Ponds in Boulder for almost a hour late this afternoon. The
large flock of *White-faced Ibis* reported by Jeff Parks continues though
it seems to have lost about a dozen individuals. Other water birds include
many *Killdeer*, a *Willet*, a small amount of *Western Sandpipers*,
Mark Peterson, Kara Carragher, and I birded SE Colorado 6 and 7 May.
Our highlights follow (thanks to many people who kept us updated on
things they were seeing):
Snow Goose - 4 at Neenoshe Reservoir, Kiowa Co. (getting late) on 5/7
American Bittern - 2 calling at Thurston Reservoir, Prowers Co.
After 4 days off for weather and other work obligations, it was great to be
back out again. We returned to a wonderful mix of new birds (25) and birds
banded here in prior years (10). Five first of season species:
Warbling Vireo (FOS) 1
Black-capped Chickadee 1, banded in 2016
House Wren 12

Hi all,
Today my brother and I went on a short excursion around Louisville, with
the best bird being a Gray Flycatcher in a clump of deciduous trees
immediately E of Cleo Mudrock. Other birds included a Northern Rough-winged
Swallow and Savannah Sparrow. Last Friday there was a Black-crowned

My name is Tom Thomson and I reside in Loveland, Colorado. I am trying to set
up a Colorado Big Day Team
On a mid morning walk along Old South St. Vrain Road in Lyons, Sally Swain
and I had singles of Western Tanager, Plumbeous Vireo, Dusky Flycatcher,
Swainson's Thrush, and Black Headed Grosbeak. All were on the move except
the Chat. Good May Birding, Carl Starace, Niwot

DFO Trip - Apex Park, Jefferson County, Colorado
7 May 2017

0700 - Noon
Eight DFO members walked/hiked up the Apex trail and a little bit onto the
Enchanted Forest Trail this morning. We managed to avoid the bikes, dogs,
and even stay on our feet amid the rocks and slippery dirt.
Had my first Common Yellowthroat of the spring at Riverbends Ponds in Larimer
county. Finally got a 2017 warbler!

We had our first black-headed grosbeaks, a male and female, this morning. The
male arrived at 11:54 a.m., and the female alighted minutes later. Also can
confirm six male and one female lazuli buntings.

Hey COBirders,
Today was just the opposite from yesterday: a fast start with a good arrival
of migrants at dawn, then a rapid drop-off after 8:30 a.m.
The male Yellow-Warblers and Com Yellowthroats were out in force, chasing
competitors, and singing like crazy. In their distracted state I was
Pulled into Cottonwood Marsh and there's at least 70 white-faced ibis here
along with several avocet a Wilson's phalarope and some other sandpipers

Jay,
Mourning Warbler's are a rarity in Colorado. I've seen it 4x in 25 years
and never heard it sing here. The chances of getting a recording from
Colorado are slim.

Request for assistance - recordings of migrating Mourning Warbler songs
I am writing once again to ask the birding community for recordings of
Mourning Warbler songs during spring migration. It is an opportunity to
participate in a Citizens Science Project with two specific goals. 1)
Jane Stulp just informed me that all her
hummingbirds have left.
