Hi all,
I have been visiting your great state since the 22nd and, alas, must leave in
the morning. My birding time in Colorado was even briefer and more limited
than usual this visit. I did, however, finagle the use of a vehicle and spent
an enjoyable 10 minute visit to Red Rocks today, Decemb
Jeanne and I were at the Trading Post at 2:00pm for about 30 minutes. The
feeders were very busy with Juncos (4 subspecies or maybe 5 if James Fox's
picture is right), House Finches, Towhees, Scrub Jays, BC Chickadees, and
Robins.
The two highlights for me were the Golden-crowned Sparrow and t
I watched the Trading Post feeders at Red Rocks from roughly 11-12
o'clock this morning. The highlight was a calling Canyon Wren that I
saw briefly on the rocks across from the feeders. The Townsend's
Solitaire in the Juniper in front of the Trading Post was a lifer for
me as well. I did not see

I went to the Red Rocks Trading Post this am and with Mike Henwood saw:
Golden-crowned Sparrow
Harris's Sparrow (both now in alternate plumage)
2 White-throated Sparrows
White-crowned Sparrows (I don't know where else in the country you are
almost guaranteed the Zonotrichia grand slam

Thrasher, White-throated Sparrow, GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW and Harris's
Sparrow
all showed at Red Rocks Trading Post between 10.45 and 11:15.

We finally made it over to Red Rocks Park. In spite of the high wind, we did
see the Curve billed Thrasher and sparrows: Golden crowned, Harris's and White
throated. At least one of each pair of Peregrine and Prairie Falcons were also
found.
