For the second time this fall I have had an evening grosbeak show up at my
house. Last time was about 3 weeks ago. I had one earlier this spring too,
but
this year was my first time in seven years of living here that I have had this
species in my yard. Hopefully this reflects a local

Folks,
Bill Maynard reports that John Drummond has found a juvenile plumage, dark
jaeger at Big Johnson Reservoir in El Paso County. They are still uncertain of
ID, but state it doesn't appear to be a Long-tailed Jaeger. Directions to Big
Johnson can be found from this link.
Several birders looked for the Chatfield Little Gull early this morning and
again later in the morning but were unable to find it. There are fewer
Sabine's Gulls as well, with only 4 juvis seen today.

COBirders,
The jaeger that WAS at Big Johnson Reservoir has left, last seen flying

Hi Cobirders
Despite my dire predictions we had a great day here at Chico. There was a
massive exodus (just one recapped bird from yesterday, a Wilson's Warbler) and
a large arrival last night. We banded a couple Swainson's Thrushes (rare in
fall). There were at least a couple Barn Owls
As well as the Big Jaeger Spuh at Big Johnson ( lots of fuzzy photos are
being examined ) , a pair of Caspian Terns were resting on the sand island
at the same time.

Hello CObirders,
On Wednesday we opened the Ridgway banding station, Thursday was our
first official day with scheduled school groups, and today we did a
public banding demonstration day. We've had a good turnout of both
birds and people. In the last two days our numbers have been

Hi Birders,
A large crowd of Barr Lake Fall Fest visitors enjoyed the birds at the banding
station this morning. Relatively slow until a flock of Spizella Sparrows hit
net 21 about 10 a.m. We banded a total of 44 birds.
Many visitors have reminded me how much I whined about the numbers
I am sorry for this very late post. Due to a summer of visiting family and
being out of town for half of August, I am only now getting photos placed on
my website.
I was alerted on 17 June to a Broad-tailed Hummingbird nest in a nearby
neighbor's newly planted tree. I followed the nesting
Hi Everyone--
Marcia Marvin and I scoped Chatfield Reservoir from 2 until about 4 this
afternoon 9/11. At one point I counted 5 Sabine's Gulls (1 juv, the rest
adult basic with gray backs), although usually only 2 or 3 were visible. The
adult alternate bird seems to have left, as has the Little
