Heather and I went to Silverton, Colorado today (1/2/10) to look for Rosy
Finches. We were lucky enough to find a flock of about 120 birds that contained
all three species. Approximately 95% of the flock was Brown-capped
Rosy-Finches with a handful of Gray-crowned and just one or two

The Pueblo CBC (east side of Pueblo), will be held Monday on January 4th. We
are meeting in Pueblo at the Denny's Restaurant at Exit 101 (east of I-25). My

On the way home from Roxborough this afternoon, I made a quick stop to
check the feeders at the Audubon Nature Center at Chatfield. I almost
fell over when I spied a Green-tailed Towhee among the many ground
feeding birds. This was approximately 3:00 p.m.

Grandview Cemetery:
White-winged Crossbill female (as reported earlier by Eric) first seen near
the cemetery worker facilities in the southeast corner, last seen atop a spruce
in Section 2 (along the south edge of the cemetery just north of the portapot

The Erie dump gulls have taken to the pond just east of Highway 7 and
north of Lowell as a daytime hangout. (East of Anthem Ranch Road). At
1:30 today about 1000 gulls included a/the immature great black
-backed, and at least a couple Thayers.

Happy New Year all,
I spent a half-hour at the Stout feeders to look for the Common
Redpoll reported during the Loveland CBC yesterday, with no luck.
However, the feeders are quite active with finches, so future visits
here could be fruitful.
A trip afterwards to Grandview Cemetery yielded one Da
Dale Stahlnecker sent this email last week to a birding group in the SLV: A
group of NM biologists have been banding Rosy Finches on the Sandia Crest
for > 5 years. Look for bands when checking those guys out!

The Loveland CBC was held on Friday, January 2, 2010. We fielded
twelve teams with over 40 people total. The weather was cold, but not
windy. Always a plus.
We had a total of 94 species for count day with Gray Catbird and
Great-tailed Grackle being count week only birds.
