There was a steady flight of Chipping and maybe other Spizella sparrows
during nautical dawn (basically, 5am-5:30am) this morning, Tuesday, Aug.
6th, over Lafayette, easterm Boulder County. At least 1 flight call per
minute during that period.

Returning from a birding trip to northeast Colorado I stopped to view the
Last Chance area,
having heard that there were six inches of rain on August 2 and 3. Five
inches were measured
at the crossroads itself, but upstream at least six inches fell rapidly.
Major flash flooding had occurred
This has been a great year in our yard.
The biggest joy has been the rain, which brought the hummingbirds to our 7'
tall Hollyhocks.
For the first time in the 10 years we have lived in this house, we had
three different hummingbirds in our yard in one day: Black Chinned,
Calliope, and Rufous.
