[cobirds] Out-of-town birder needs help with grouse

2016-10-13 Thread linda hodges
COBirders,

I am passing on a message from a Maine birder who will be here in April
and could use some assistance. Please see his message below and reply to:
coter...@roadrunner.com

>From Ron:

I am planning a birding trip to see grouse and related species in Colorado.
Do you have any information that you can direct me to or share? Suggestions
from others who have had similar plans? I am planning to do this in April
with my two sons.

Regards,
Ron Coté

[cobirds] Pomarine Jaeger Chatfield (Douglas Co)

2016-10-13 Thread 'Dan Stringer' via Colorado Birds
Thanks Ira and Tammy Sanders for yesterday's post, and Adam Vesley for today's
update. Following suit so others know it's still active there. At about 1:30
myself, John Drummond, and Jeannie Mitchell saw the Pomarine Jaeger at
Chatfield Reservoir (Douglas Co) from the rocky point by the handicapped
fisherman's pier and got good photos. It mostly sat on the water on the west /
northwest side, but made several flights around the reservoir, passing by us
once. It raised everything off of the sand spit and made a run at some ducks
and grebes but I never saw it take food.

John also spotted two young Sabine's Gulls near the spit which provided great
views, size comparison to other gulls, and photos in bright light. We were
fortunate in our brief visit to Chatfield.

[cobirds] Pomarine Jaeger - Chatfield State Park - Jefferson County

2016-10-13 Thread Adam Vesely
Mark Chavez and I observed the Jaeger in several spots this morning. Still
present. Seems to like the area between the fishing pier by the marina and by
the north boat ramp area.
