Among the 1500 or more white cheeked geese on the ice and shallow water, on
the west side of Cherry Creek reservoir, near the picnic tables, early on
the 12/9 afternoon was one white goose. It faced the other way or was
behind other geese. By size it looked like a Ross', but I did not get a

Greetings
Ben’s goose is a scarce (1:1000?) variant of Cackling Goose. These birds seem
to have big white cheek, patches that come all the way to the bill, as in Ben’s
bird
Seems like a shared ancestral trait with Barnacle Goose

Thanks to Kathy Mihm-Dunning & Christian Hagenlocher, we understand the
identify of the hybrid duck at the Walker Pit. They referred us to several
sites that show this bird as a Bufflehead/Common Goldeneye hybrid. Apparently
it or one like it showed up at the Walker Pit last fall as well,

Hi all,
There’s currently a Brown Thrasher skulking along the NE drainage that flows
into the small pond north of the swim beach at Cherry Creek SP. This is where
Rusty Blackbirds and a Black-and-white Warbler have been reported recently, but
I have not yet seen them.

12:45 duck disappeared along with one Bufflehead and six goldeneyes. Only half

Greetings All
This appears to be a “Madwall” aka Brewer’s Duck aka Mallard x Gadwall. Note
size- as big or bigger than Mallard- short tail. Also the head pattern,
including brown and purplish hues, is common in this cross as is the birds bill
pattern
