I love rare birds from odd places, and found in odd places (maybe not so
odd as the habitat looks good, just the location isn’t oft birded).
Why would this bird stop in this location? Well, looks like weather is an
easy culprit this time.
A very quiet day at the banding station. Aiken Audubon had a birding trip
to the Ranch today. It is always nice to have folks stop by. The highlights
for us were Say's Phoebe and the Ovenbird. Forty-five new birds including
nine species were banded today. Apparently the birds are continuing on
Great to hear about the Evening Grosbeak. Perhaps connected to that
occurrence somehow, I had 5 different flocks of Evening Grosbeaks flying
and feeding near my Ken Caryl Valley home this morning, totalling over 50
birds. This is exceptional for Ken Caryl in May, and generally so to have
multiple
This appears to be a 3rd state record. The previous two records are from
Jefferson and Montezuma counties. I remember a third previous report, that
seems to have never gotten documented either with the CBRC or on eBird,
from the Dolores River valley in 2014.

In the Facebook Colorado Rare Bird Alert group there are some photos and it
says the bird was seen in Baca County. Is that a state or county record?

It was an excellent morning at Chatfield, with a nice number (42) of birds
and diversity (14) of species, and OUR 105th SPECIES - A STUNNING ADULT

All,
The Red-faced Warbler was seen yesterday at Burchfield State Wildlife Area,
which is east of Springfield and about a mile from the Kansas line in Baca
County.
There are 2 previous documentations of Red-faced Warbler in CO in the CBRC
database:
The final member of our colorful trio arrived this morning: a bright
Lazuli Bunting. We also heard one singing in the gully below our house.
The other member of the trio - Black-headed Grosbeak & Western Tanager -

With migration in full swing, but a mid-morning appointment in the way, ran
down to a couple of local hotspots in southwest Denver first thing this

Hey, all.
I made an excruciatingly brief visit this sunny Wed. morning. May 3, to the
Confluence Ponds area, near the intersection of Foothills Pkwy. & Arapahoe
Ave., Boulder Co.
Very birdy back in there, with 2 *northern parulas,* a mostly *Mexican
duck,* multiple *Bullock orioles* and *yellow
Does anyone have an idea who this bird could be ? (heard from cattails at
Boulder's Teller Lake last month): https://xeno-canto.org/789739
Heard this same sequence of notes several times, separated by pauses of 30
secs or so.
Closest I could think of was a Virginia Rail, but that doesn't match
Longmont: We have a pair of nesting Cooper's hawks on the SE corner of
Boise and Sandpoint in a squirrel's nest. This is a residential
neighborhood with people and dogs walking by all the time. I see the hawks
swoosh by from my window. Needless to say, feeder birds are getting scarce.

Congratulations to Steve M. For another great find. Just goes to show what can
happen when you get out and bird…...a lot.
