[CODE4LIB] Classification of loan types

2012-04-23 Thread Jakob Voss
Hi,

is there an established classification of loan types, preferable as
Ontology with URIs for each type? I am not sure about the English
terminology with terms such as loan, hold and recall. In
particular I am looking for a simple (!) list of types for current
relationships between a patron and a library item, such as the
following:

1. loan: the patron has got the library item
2. reservation: the patron will get the library item as soon as it is
available again
3. ordered: the patron will get the library item, that is currently made
availabe, for instance by bringing it to some location from the closed
stacks

Maybe that's all and I only need to define my own URIs for this cases.
But there may also be relevant cases such as the item is allocated to
some location for the patron, waiting that he or she picks it up and
digital library items may be even more complicated.

So do you know any such specification or do I have to define my own
standard?

Jakob

dependability/reliability and a commitment to maintain confidentiality.

**Deadline to Apply: Friday May 4, 2012 (4:30pm) - Apply Online**

### Unofficial Notes:

The description and qualifications are fairly general on purpose. We are open
to hiring someone who doesn't know specific languages, but is willing to
learn. Nevertheless, we would like the new programmer to be complementary to
our current programmer (that's right, singular; it's a small team), so we
would prefer someone with web experience, but we encourage anyone with
programming knowledge and experience who has interest in software and web
development.

So here's the preferences and bonus points list (not related to any actual
points system):

  * Knowledge of web development
  * The usual: HTML5/CSS, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript
  * Graphics design is a big plus
  * ColdFusion is a bonus, because we have it
  * Ability to work on a small, flexible team

Last note: it says on-call coverage, but it's fairly minimal, so don't let
that scare you away!

Re: [CODE4LIB] Code4Lib Journal: Editors Wanted

2012-04-23 Thread Kelley McGrath
Hello, again!

Just a reminder that the deadline to apply for the Code4Lib Journal editorial
committee is Monday, April 30.

If you have been thinking about the call for new editors, I encourage you to
apply. It's a great opportunity to contribute to something that makes a real
difference to the library community by improving the dissemination of
innovative and practical ideas. In my experience, it's both a lot work and a
lot of fun and the editorial committee is made up of dedicated, supportive
people who are great to work with.

Questions? Ask me (kell...@uoregon.edu) or anybody on the editorial committee
(http://journal.code4lib.org/editorial-committee) or all of us
(jour...@code4lib.org).

 * Volunteer to be the assigned editor or second reader for specific proposals.
** Assigned editors work with the author(s) to make sure the article is as
strong as possible, that the copy is clean, and deadlines are met.  They also
enter the article into WordPress, making sure the formatting is okay, all
images and tables look good, etc.
** Second readers act as a second set of eyes for the assigned editor.
 * Read and comment on any other article that interests you.
 * Volunteer for administrative tasks and projects as they crop up.
 * Take a turn as Coordinating Editor for an Issue.  The Coordinating Editor
shepherds the issue through its life cycle.

We seek an individual who is self-motivated, organized and able to meet
deadlines; is familiar with ideas and trends in the field; and has an
interest in the mechanics of writing.  There is a sometimes significant time
commitment involved; expect to set aside ten or more hours a month.

It sounds like a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun (if editing is your
 idea of fun).

Intrigued?  Please send a letter of interest by Monday, April 30 to
jour...@code4lib.org. Your letter should address these two basic questions:

 1) What is your vision for the Code4Lib Journal? Why are you interested in it?

 2) How can you contribute to the Code4Lib Journal, i.e. what do you have to
 offer?

We encourage people who have previously applied and who are still interested
to re-apply. We have had to turn down a lot of highly-qualified people in the
past due to the large number of applications.

If you have any questions, contact us by email at jour...@code4lib.org or ask
any member of the editorial committee (listed at

[CODE4LIB] Announcing TEI Boilerplate 1.0

2012-04-23 Thread John A. Walsh
We are pleased to announce the release of TEI Boilerplate 1.0, a lightweight
solution for publishing styled TEI P5 content directly in modern web browsers.

The typical method for publishing TEI on the web involves an often complex XSLT
transformation from TEI to HTML, which results in the loss of much of the
semanticy richness of the original TEI document. TEI Boilerplate uses a
relatively simple XSLT transformation to embed the entire TEI document inside
an HTML5 shell, relying on CSS and JavaScript to format and process the TEI
content. We hope that this lightweight approach will provide a simple solution
for publishing TEI content on the web, and it may be particularly useful in
teaching contexts and in systems like Omeka. We further hope that this
approach will foster innovation in the delivery and analysis of TEI content by
exposing that content directly to the capabilities of modern web technologies:
HTML5, CSS 3, JavaScript and the many popular JavaScript frameworks, such as
JQuery and EXT JS.
