But... to try and help you out, I would recommend installing Apache NetBeans 12.2, as I assume your on Big Sur? If you are, the issue your seeing with the Apache 12.0 Installer was it was using `/usr/libexec/java_home --version 1.8+` which no longer works in BigSur, we've replaced it in the Apache NetBeans 12.2+ Installer with `/usr/libexec/java_home` Please give that version a try, if you still have issues, please open a new ticket and tag me in it, so I can take a look. Another major issue is that apps (and Java JRE is that in this context) needs to ask permission, e.g. to capture sound from a mic. But Java does not do this, hence Java is at the moment paralysed in several directions. Hopefully, someone in Oracle is professional and is just now working very hard to recoup a normal situation. It is not working well, so I hope for a remedy, and I can contribute as needed. 1. NB 12.0 LTS does not look in the right place for the JDK and thus, refuses to install. It does not search the folders for a JDK, it seems to expect a particular folder? (I am guessing). 2. NB 12.2 does look in the right place for the JDK and thus, can be installed. 3. NB12.2 can create a new java project, however the /netbeans folder it uses is a mystery. Where is it? Made two projects, one grade and one ant, and both of them are only visible through NB! 4. NB 12.2 can not see old java projects that INDEED IS available in the SSD. So, it can only create a new project. I am sure there are more strange things, but this is the findings so far after one evening's work. Note also that the day before, this same version of NB was installed on Windows, not causing problems (except a wrong font size, which is a minor). > Apache NetBeans cant be installed on Mac OS Big Sur > --- > > Key: NETBEANS-4779 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-4779 > Project: NetBeans > Issue Type: Bug > Components: platform - installer >Reporter: John McDonnell >Assignee: John McDonnell >Priority: Major > Fix For: 12.1 > > Time Spent: 20m > Remaining Estimate: 0h > > As part of of the Apache NetBeans 12.1 release, it was found that the current > mac os installer doesn't work on Big Sur due to changes in the > `/usr/libexec/java_home` script. > The fix will be to remove the version flag from the installer. -- This message was sent by Atlassian Jira (v8.3.4#803005) - To unsubscribe, e-mail: commits-unsubscr...@netbeans.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: commits-h...@netbeans.apache.org For further information about the NetBeans mailing lists, visit: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Mailing+lists

It worked correctly and now NetBeans opens. If, however, I open NetBeans through the terminal with the command "sudo" I can see the files (this is because the command "sudo" gives you all the permissions).
