Anyway, it is not problem to solve, it was more the point that in the
wild you will encounter different situations from an emulated
environment (depending on your app).

Yes, you could have a simple shell script to setup your cross
compilation toolchain. For example I use:

I do most of my testing on the desktop but lately I have been testing

September, and whatever setting was responsible for the sound was no
longer available in alsamixer. So I'm thinking this is a software or
driver issue...

I also prefer GTK+ and have invested some time developing an application
on my Neo with it. I find it very easy to develop and test on my GNOME
based desktop (Ubuntu) and re-compile for the Neo. I hope OpenMoko
continues down the same route.

The commands above actually run over USB. Simply boot the Neo into uBoot
(hold the Aux button while powering on) and select the option to use the
console over USB (Move selection using Aux, invoke the selection by pressing
power). Then plug in the USB cable and run the cu command.

with QEMU in general is: take your time.
Click and hold it for a second or two. If you do quick clicks that you're
used to doing on the desktop, it will often not register at all in the
emulator.

in a shell. But there are some strange missing pieces, like no cron, no
timezone support...

orientation? Moving from 640 wide x 480 high to 480 wide x 640 high is
going to need more than scaling. You are going to want to use the display
differently.
