and it will list out which mtd partition that contains the kernel. Then 
you do

 flasheraseall /dev/mtdX
 cat yourUimage.bin >  /dev/mtdX

And thats it

[debian] Evince works and is nice for ebooks

Hello, I was thinking to make also a dialer for XFCE. I was thinking to make
it as a XFCE applet showing the Signal, Carrier, and when clicked showing a
dialpad.

It down't want to replace Zhone. It is like a more integrated dialer,
without the need to keep the zhone turned on. In this way you can use your
FR as a Palmare without losing the phone functionality.

Ha good on Debian it's a better source of kernel packages than we are.

U-Boot version we use anyway has no SD "layer" support at all, I added
it to the Glamo driver modified from Linux driver directly and it is

kexec only removes the need for up to were the bootloader executes the
kernel. You still need to shutdown up to the reboot point and then
execute the kernel and go throught the linux boot process.

The point to were the neo bootloader executes the kernel is already
pretty quick it is the rest of the linux boot that takes the time.

I can't quite imagine how to 'live update' the kernel in any other way
but maybe a device like this will be some incentive for someone.

OK, so this resolvconf thing is inherited from debian and has been 
implented obviously without much thought to general functionality. I say 
this in the context of normal (non-debian) services functioning as 
expected when not massaged by resolvconf.

I understand the intention, don't get me wrong, and it is indeed a nice 
idea. But when all people want to do is gain connectivity with their 
chosen method, this resolvconf facility seems to be more of a hinderence 
and is unlike a lot of linux distros. Shouldn't this, at least 
currently, be optional?

If something as fundamental as _core_ network services are going to be 
overlayed with something like this, it should really be working first, 
rather thaan people editing files left and right without understanding why.

This is just what I think, take it as you will. In the end I am the 
master of my device ;)

I've actually just done a bit of research before posting and it 
_appears_ this was implemented with good intention, just without the 
required software support. It seems to be very much of debian origins 
and a little bit of overkill for managing the facilities on the 
freerunner, but that's just my opinion. If I was currently using usb0, 
eth0 and a tun/tap interface simultaneously, that all flapped or had 
dynamic dns requirments (sounds more like a router) it would make sense 
to me. I imagine the end goal is to consolidate gprs and wifi dns but 
currently no resolvconf is going to teach people how to get that going.
 
When om2008 is mature and these kind of connections can be made easily, 
without much knowledge, this utility would be a godsend ... as it stands 
you currently need basic linux knowledge to understand why things don't 
work and

Is there opkg version of ipkg-link?

Hello all!

I have good old neo1973 (GTA01) but recently I was too busy to play with it.

Today I have dfu-util'ed latest daily kernel and jffs2. There is no ipkg but 
opkg. OK, but what about method of installing software on card, described on 
wiki/Package_management?

There is no opkg-link so what shall I do? Run some find -d/f |xargzed with 
ln -s? Or maybe there is a way to run ipkg-link on files installed with opkg?

Not to my knowledge, I make sure to rm /etc/default/flashkernel before 
an opkg upgrade. It's autocreated after the upgrade so there's probably 
a flag somewhere, I really should find it :)

I've not tried cat before but have used mtd-utils. Sorry, that's what I 
meant before. It's available at least in the testing repo but I've not 
tested on the freerunner. There seems to minor limitations on what some 
of the system tools are capable of, which is pretty typical of embedded 
systems. Maybe the packaged tools will help.

- djvu
- pdf
- cbz (xipped archive of images)

[debian/zhone] Send an SMS

If resolvconf isn't doing what it should, then it is our  
responsibility as users to file enough bugs with enough pertinent info  
until it is corrected.
If you have a clear use case that fails, open a ticket.
I don't care which kind of connection management system is inside  
openmoko, as long as it works and is flexible to accommodate any  
networking scenario we may come up with (which pretty much narrows it  
down to resolvconf IMHO).
Let's make it work, ok? File the necessary bugs.

I had to add a menu entry to the NAND uboot if that's what you mean - see 
below. These are as in the wiki except for minor changes to account for my 
configuration. The sd_max_clk is to try to fix the problem with my SD rootfs 
getting I/O errors, but it doesn't. Both partitions are ext3, and the kernel 
is in boot/uImage exactly where the tar file put it. I did edit /etc/fstab on 
each partition to put the correct details in for the root partition.

Hello Joel,

How is that exactly supposed to work for the usb0 interface? this always
has the static IP 192.168.0.202 (coded in /etc/network/interfaces);
I've setup in my FreeBSD laptop a DHCP server to offer the IP addr of
DNS with this config:

# This is a very basic subnet declaration.
 
subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
   range 192.168.0.202 192.168.0.202;
   option domain-name "Sisis.de";
   option domain-name-servers 10.0.1.201;
}

when the interface cdce0 in FreeBSD comes up (on plug'in of USB cable),
the devd(8) daemon assigns the corresponding hardcoded addr
192.168.0.200 and as well launches the DHCP server for this interface;
but there is no DHCP request visible;

when I now go to the FreeRunner and launch there a dhcclient for usb0
then the result is (of course):

Sep 25 13:47:15 rebelion dhcpd: Abandoning IP address 192.168.0.202: pinged 
before offer
Sep 25 13:47:20 rebelion dhcpd: Reclaiming abandoned lease 192.168.0.202.

because the DHCP server sees that the IP 192.168.0.202 can be ping'ed
through the interface cdce0;

How this should work correctly for the usb0 interface in the FreeRunner?

IMHO the "simplest effective solution" should always head the list.  In
this instance I think that is to run dnscache or a similar service on the
Freerunner itself, pointing somewhere like opendns.com's servers. (ok,
maybe not simplest, though the local cache has various benefits. Pointing
resolv.conf at opendns.com or wherever is simplest, assuming no network
connection actually requires use of it's own DNS - corporate intranet wifi
might, to reach 'private' records for example)  If needed, newly-connected
network connections that come equipped with new DNS servers (IE, wifi with
DHCP) can insert/remove their DNS servers from the list used by dnscache,
while resolv.conf permanently points at 127.0.0.1.  This is what I've had
running for a few weeks, but I hadn't yet attempted to get ifup/ifdown
manipulating /etc/dnscache/root/servers/@. (which will essentially require
a resolvconf-like manager ;)

When the file isn't found the install process "touch"  
/etc/default/flashkernel creating the file.

There is a best hack for it from Stefano Cavallari posted in this list 
(http://lists.openmoko.org/nabble.html#nabble-td832513) is better way just 
do:
rm /etc/default/flashkernel
mkdir /etc/default/flashkernel



Flashing starts if exist a file named /etc/default/flashkernel (this name is a 
directory now) so it just "touch" the name.

it will not flash the kernel, leaving the flash os ok, but is the SD upgrade
safe? or may the upgraded modules not match the SD kernel image?

WIFI Connector Application

Hello all,
I'm looking for an application which if it exists great and if it 
don't exist I'll maybe try and implement it in C, if what I'm thinking 
is even possible. I've not done too much investigating into Wifi as I 
believe that it has its issues on the FR.

I've not tagged this email [2008.09] or anything. I'm using 2008.09 but 
I'll use this on any distro if it exists and if it has to be written I 
don't want to write it for a specific Distro.

The FreeRunner as you well know is a very mobile device. Given this 
mobility the wifi is potentially connecting to different networks all 
over the place. I'm looking for an application which can scan for wifi 
networks and compares the available SSIDs to a list of know SSIDs which 
is stored in? (database/file/whatever) The list of know SSID's should 
also contain the security details of the Network.

Now if the app is started and it finds a know Network it simply connects 
to that network using the stored security settings. If there is no know 
network available but there is an open network the App prompts the user 
to see if they want to connect to an open network. Perhaps in the coffee 
shop.

I don't know if the phone should periodically check for access points or 
whether it should only connect when prompted. Maybe along the top of the 
home screen there could be icons for a connectable wifi hotspot. If the 
user sees that they are connectible then they could start their browser 
and let it all work.

as I say I've not even started looking at FR Wifi as yet as I though 
there were problems. If the app I'm describing already exists sorry but 
please direct me. I want WIFI connection not to require the command 
line. Most people who buy phones will never use a command line ;-)

I use Ubuntu on my laptop and every time I go home to the parents place 
I have to tell Ubuntu to connect to their Wifi. I must have told it a 
million times ;-) You'd think it would know by now. Actually the App I'm 
describing could be used on my laptop as well. Two birds...

Depends how you boot. I boot directly (well via symlink) the kernel in 
/boot, so this works fine. If you have a vfat partition then you have to 
copy the kernel over from /boot and rename it. That's why I switched to 
a single ext2 partition, much easier to maintain, especially with 
testing's regular updates.

It should upgrade the kernel in /boot but leave the one in mtd alone. Since 
opkg is doing the update it should take care of upgrading the modules to 
match the kernel. I'm going to be trying just that this afternoon to see if 
Andy's kernel update has fixed my SD issues, so I'll let you know how it 
goes.

Isn't wpa_supplicant doing exactly this (it does for me on my normal
laptop) having /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf as the database for all your
known Wifi networks?

It would do if all the debian network scripts are in place. Last time I tried 
(some time ago now) wpa_supplican would connect, but the scripts that are 
supposed to run on connection to sort out IP, DNS etc. were missing.

2008.8/9 appears to be using connman which is supposed to do a similar job to 
NetworkManager.

[2008.9] What, no updates?...

It's been a long time since the last real update of packages for the  
2008.x feeds.
Everyday I do opkg update and opkg upgrade and all that comes down is  
the angstrom version file.
Since there are still a lot of bugs to solve, I find this strange...
What's happening?... why aren't there any updates?
Is OM working on something else entirely, or taking a vacation? :)

Getting IMEI from uboot

apparently there are only two ways of getting IMEI from uboot on a FreeRunner:


- Sending the proper  AT command  to the Calypso modem
- Reading it from nand0,4 factory partition

A.Actually I've discovered that GSM passthrough doesn't work anymore

yes, I'll investigate) The gsm_power_on function seems to act
correctly on GPIO.

B.I don't know really how to read a file from the factory parrtition

One thing though (perhaps discussed previously... i don't know): i can
see you have a lot of apps installed. I do the same and then it is
really hard to scroll and not to miss and then, by so many scrolls
around, i usually accidentally trigger another app. I even tried
setting double tap :) What about paging while scrolling? Going up or
down given pages seems easier for me than having to scroll around and
always miss... or?

that's only because its running on my desktop finding all desktop apps
installed... seriously i wouldn't expect such a list to be installed on a phone

i don't plane to touch the launcher as it is as it is just a filemanager icon
view widget. i do intend to actually pretty much nuke it in favor of a much
better launching mechanism/idea. not just launching apps too - though i now
note that android is kin of doing this (put not just apps but contacts, clocks,
calendars etc. on your "home screen" anywhere u like - and at any size). a
launcher with a list of apps could be once such "desktop gadget" type - but i
think from a usability perspective forcing users to live with a bunch of apps
to launch as their "desktop" (home screen) isn't long-term good. its good for a
quick "ok - here u are. something that works". so not going to do much to it as
its really destined to become something entirely different.

I like the idea.

And just for a useless opinion from me, the Nokia770 desktop had 
something like this. They allowed free positioning of elements with 
various sizes. The effect whas a cluttered appearance and a real pain to 
position the widgets in a nice way. And many of these elements wasted 
just some pixels too much to bring them into position next to each other 
with others.

Especially on a phone i would like the container to control size and 
placement of the gadgets.
The gadget designer could still decide how many 'units' he wants and 
shape his elements like tetris blocks but the container would enforce 
placement and size.

As i said, this is at the moment a useless idea. But i wanted to share 
my experience with a floating unconstrained gadget layout. *g*

I think the work that wpa_supplicant daemon does is only to control the
association to the AP and bringing up the interface; then in FreeBSD
a devd (device daemon) lets you describe what to do else, for example
launch a script when IF_UP; in this script you may, based on the MAC of
the AP, do whatever is needed: ifconfig static IP or DHCP or 

it is similiar to what I have described here for the cdce0 (USB) interface:

a logic like that must exist in Debian too, I'm wrong?

[FSO] How to develop with Qt

Hi,

We are 2 Students and are doing a research project with the Freerunner. Now we 
need to develop a tool with C++ QT. Because of the nice possibilities with 
dbus we want to do this with FSO. But we dont't know how to do that.

Are there QT libs for OM available yet?
Does the Metatoolchain support it?
Are there any howtos?

We would be very happy if someone could give some hints for the right way.

Hi Michael,
Since FSO uses DBus as one of its core technologies, it is toolkit agnostic
as long as the toolkit has DBus bindings. As it turns out Qt has very good
DBus support. In case you haven't already taken a look,

Nope, you're 100% right. Given the hardware capabilities of the
FreeRunner, dragging as a user input concept should be abandoned
completely.

Exactly. The logic exists in debian. wpa_supplicant associates with the access 
point then some scripts apply the configuration you set 
in /etc/network/interfaces that matches the AP it associated with. 
Unfortunately in 2007.2 the bit that applies the settings is missing. For 
someone who knows their way around the inner workings of the debian system it 
would probably be easy to fix, but I don't. Since ASU was moving to use 
connman instead of the debian method of network management I didn't see the 
benefit in digging deeper at the time.

today i thought of this: up and down drag/slide does so far normal
up/down scrolling. sliding left/right lists through "fixed" pages of
apps...

Hi!

I haven't tried 2008.9 yet but assuming its the same as in 2008.8 you
just need to decompile the theme file (using edje_decc)
~/.e/e/themes/*.edj or the system-wide default in
/usr/share/enlightenment/data/themes/illume.edj.
Have a look at the resulting output (should be a directory containing
images and an *.edc file) and change the background file if existant,
then recompile it using edje_cc and you're done.

Seemed quite a lot of work for me just to change a background but I've
discovered that E has a lot of differences compared to other desktop
environments and I'm starting to like the principle.
I just tried it on the theme found here
http://52grad.de/.stuff/freerunner/ and it worked out fine. Haven't
tried on the default one though - I don't even know if there's a
background image specified. Remember to use an image in 640x640 as
you'll be rotating your screen :)

It is a program to manage your Geocaches (www.geocaching.com). Unfortunatly

Cool, thanks!  I actually meant - and so should have been precise - is
there already something in the GUI for sending a message - because I
was wondering if I'd missed it.  I'll take your response as
confirmation that the answer to that (GUI) question is "no"!

oh maemo just implemented this awfully! sure - core idea is there, but they had
no drag resistance (ie resist being dragged over another element for a it to
allow aligning of things easily) and no form of "auto arrange". ie i cant go
create a "vbox" or "hbox" then drag N elements into it and then let it
auto-arrange (or some hider that taks N elements and groups them into a v/hbox
or table and then shows/hides with a little control tab/button etc.)

it was very raw.

My Suggestions for FDOM

I've just moved to FDOM and I love it.

I have a few ideas to make it better - these aren't criticisms - it's 
great at the moment - these are just ideas to make it better - I don't 
expect anyone to agree about all of them, but these are suggestions...

# Midori(with the settings tweaked) is better for the screensize than 
minimo - I find it more usable

# accel-rotate program, or a way to start/stop it - this is a simple 
script to use the accelerometers to rotate with xrandr. It seems quite 
stable. An ipkg is available - http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Rotate

When I was running 22007.2, two cool programs I had from Angstrom were:

# Quasar - a x11 mplayer front end.
This is not perfect for the freerunner - it ideally needs some UI work 
doing (more than just setting tweaking), especially on it's fonts, 
however, i have launched mpg QVGA videos with it and watched them as 
well as listening to music with it.

# Claws Mail
A lightweight mail client - with a bit of UI tweaking from the view menu 
makes a completely usable mail client. Since we have qmail, I guess this 
is not necessary, but it's a thought.

# FBreader?
I would love to see an ebook reader but I think there are big dependency 
issues here :(

# Games
Personally, I would prefer to get rid of sudoku and to possibly to get 
kobodeluxe on there.
Though not ready yet, keeping an eye on 
http://projects.openmoko.org/projects/accelgame might be good.

# lint-wifi
Personally, I prefer lint-wifi to mofi. I really like being able to see 
the network info it displays (ie IP, DNS DDHCP) as it helps 
troubleshooting stuff when things dont work :P

Possibly modify the default the wpa_supplicant.conf to automatically

At the time I installed dd-wrt on my AP, there was a script that did
exactly this.  Looked for local known/unknown networks and picked the
best one to connect to - target was an environment (appartment block)
that had a number of unsecured AP's that continually changed.  The AP
just auto-connected to the one it thought best.

Moral issues aside, that looks like the way to do it.  A quick look at
the dd-wrt site doesnt show it now, but some searching should show it.

Also noticed they have a new HAL that can do Atheros WiSOC - not sure if
that includes the AR-6000.

Hi,

Is anyone from openmoko working on Bug #1841 (wsod)?

This bug has been around for quite a long time and is critical and
affecting many users. Can anyone actually suspend and resume reliability?
Without being able to suspend and resume, using the gta02 as a phone is not
really possible for myself anyway.

I am more than happy to assist in any way I can, but I am not a kernel
hacker, so can't make code changes at this level to fix it.

I get the impression updates are staged fairly well for stable. I use testing 
(and it runs fantatsic at the moment, can use as a daily phone) and updates 
are pushed pretty much every day.

I guess it comes down to your avenue of participation :)

That all makes sense. Typically I've seen dnsmasq fulfill this function.

My point was merely that the current solution is added complexity to a rather 
neat base filesystem. If this was a package I wouldn't have the same gripe.

Using dnsmasq, pointing at localhost, including opendns and using helper 
scripts to insert and remove dns servers sounds less complex and less 
confusing, with the added benefit of caching and less modification to the base 
system. It also means not having to incorporate something that doesn't appear 
to have had the modifications needed _to_ incorporate it.

I don't like the requirement that all the software modifying network settings 
needs to be resolvconf aware. If we had a generic central solution people 
could use whatever they want and not incur breakage ...

Worst case, something like a resolv.conf pipe to a daemon that updates 
resolv.conf.auto for dnsmasq would be better. Something central!

Looking at the way resolvconf works, it almost seems like we should be 
patching libc :S ...so we have a generic interface.

Anyway ... I can feel fork coming on :P

This is the problem. Nothing useful is in place to facilitate the added bloat 
(no offense intended).

My current argument is that if something is being done, for something as 
necessary as networking, is should be either simple ... or working. Complex 
and non-functioning seems to be the alternative :S

If this were a package I'd agree. Sometime it's up to the users to show some 
concern. I don't think I want resolvconf working. Despite not being optimised 
for embedded, it's requirements seem to outweigh it's benefit in my view.

To me it seems someone decided to not reinvent the wheel, which is fair enough 
in most cases. The freerunner currently has square wheels, so I don't see why 
a custom solution couldn't be developed.  There's plenty of time after all, 
before we actually need a seemless facility like this.

I use testing and have had no problems for the last 3 weeks, maybe more. 
Actually there was one update which I think broke it, but testing updates 
daily so was fixed the next day.

I don't recommend testing ... well ... because it's testing. But I can 
honestly say I've had a great experience. I don't modify the base system, I 
just wrap around it :) ... and testing has nearly always worked as a daily 
phone for me, without tweaks.

It may be just a touch soft but nothing like qtopia ;)

Ah ... looks like you may need to strip a header or something. We really need

kobodeluxe - how do you quit?

I installed the kobodeluxe game for the kid, but we cant figure out how
to exit it :(

Even if you go through 5 new lives and get the menu, hitting quit with a
stylus just takes you back into the game.  Ended up removing the
battery.

How?

Oh, the testing UI. Yes, you can send messages with that one as well.
Push 'Messages', then chose a contact from your SIM, then compose your
message, then it's going into the outbox and will be sent.

you remove the battery. this is basically a kobodeluxue issue - it provides no
way to quit without a real physical keyboard. as it also asks to be fullscreen
and has no code to request a virtual keyboard - it's basically painted itself
into a corner on the freerunner. it needs a patch to have a "exit the program"
menu/button on the screen. as the buttons on the machine (you only have 2) are
purposed for other things but default - you're out of luck. technically e
supports bindings so you could re-bind the power button to "close" (close an
app) which would make sense, but then you lose power for "instant suspend". it
could also display a menu.. but no menu exists that would cover both powerdown,
suspend and close app - but it could be done. as such code needs to be put
somewhere. in this case it's definitely bad ui design for kobo on such a
platform. yes the wm could do more to work around such things.

New to Freerunner!!

I am new to this community. I just got myself the freerunner a couple of 
days back. I am a fairly experienced user of Linux/Debian/Kubuntu on 
the desktop and this is my first experience with something like the 
freerunner.

Anyway i am happy with the hardware and i have been through the wiki 
and am still trying to make my way through the amount of information 
available in there.

The first thing i did after the free runner landed was i reflashed the 
firmware to the 2008.8. I have it boothing but i have not go tit to do 
anything useful. Wifi does not connect and the GPS does not work. 
There exists no filemanager/ media player by default and so essentially i 
still have nothing usable.

I would appreciate anyone guiding me or pointing me to a location 
where i can get the needed information. What i need to being is

1) Get the wifi to connect. It currently invariably always says something 
like "Error: Unable to connect to the network"
2) Get my GPS working. TangoGPS says no GPS found and "locations" 
says unable to get a fix.
3) How do i exchange data between my PC and the FR so that i could 
push my MP3's and documents etc.
4) A good music player, web browser and PDF reader.

Thanks to everyone who made this product what it is. Over the next 
couple of months i wish to have my Qt apps i've written for the desktop 
ported to this platform. In that regard i have not read anywhere about it 
but i hope the USB port operates in host mode and i would need it to 
interface with certain USB (1.1) hardware.

hmmm.  I've been thinking on the situation, and have a proposal, as yet
incomplete but IMHO promising - and it's nowhere near as drastic as
forking.  I see basically two approaches:  One is an overarching network
manager directly handling all the details, the other (my preferred) is to
let DNS take care of itself independently, and address the
multiple-default-route issue - probably with route metrics, though more
advanced routing setup (requiring full "ip" binary instead of busybox) with
multiple routing tables and rules is probably the "better" solution there.

It starts with dnscache.  Postinst in dnscache ipk removes the symlink
/etc/resolv.conf and replaces it with a real file, pointing always at
nameserver 127.0.0.1.  (what I had going already)

On my Ubuntu desktop, there's a possibly-useful file:
/etc/resolvconf/update.d/dnscache - its purpose is to alter
/etc/dsncachce/root/servers/@ (the list of servers dnscache is to query for
anything uncached) automatically whenever resolvconf is triggered.  This
would be the way to hook in if resolvconf were working on the Freerunner as
intended, which currently appears not to be the case.

Alternately (or additionally), /etc/network/if-up.d/ and
/etc/network/if-post-down.d/ allow us to perform the same changes
automatically whenever an interface is brought up or taken down using ifup
and ifdown.

I've altered my /etc/init.d/dnscache script to include a 'refresh' feature,
that first wipes /etc/dnscache/root/servers/@, then stuffs in any
non-localhost nameservers presently listed in /etc/resolv.conf, then adds
any nameservers found in /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf, finishing up with
any IPs listed in /etc/default/dnscache (default contents opendns.com IPs),
wipes /etc/resolv.conf back to localhost only, then finally kicks dnscache
so it uses the new servers/@ contents.

Once my freerunner is back in front of me I'll test the init script changes
- if it works as I hope, I can add a script to the ipk in each of
/etc/network/if-up.d/ and /etc/network/if-post-down.d/ that simply call
"/etc/init.d/dnscache refresh", and/or in /etc/resolvconf/update.d/.  That
makes the whole thing "just work" as a single ipk installing dnscache and
all the support to override resolvconf AND 'manual' nameserver updates
implemented by ifup/ifdown. If resolvconf is discarded it will work fine,
just need added logic in the postrm script in the dnscache ipk to recognize
resolvconf's absence and restore a basic /etc/resolv.conf instead of trying
to restore the symlink.

BTW: dnscache vs dnsmasq. I'm far more familiar with dnscache, so I'd lean
toward it for that reason, but additionally dnsmasq incorporates a dhcp
server - seems a waste for a more-or-less

Currently downloading image So i should use the same kernel image as the 
2008.8 but only reflash the rootfs i presume? FDOM does look interesting.

http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Wifi cover this.  It states that the GUI
"should work fairly well" in updated 2008.  I never had much success with
it, but honestly didn't try much in the past few weeks.  I've had best
success with "ifup eth0" in terminal, once I'd set up a good
wpa_supplicant.conf covering my WPA home AP, WPA work AP, unsecured work
AP, and falling back to any unsecured AP that would talk to it.

http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/TangoGPS#Running_tangoGPS_on_Om_2008.8 should
do the job.  You need gpsd installed and config altered
(GPS_DEV=/dev/ttySAC0), and you need to start gpsd, which you can do in
Settings.

Simplest is probably sftp or scp.

stating that use as a USB storage device for the desktop is unsupported,
while that is in fact possible and fairly easy to achieve now.  (though it
only presents the microSD as a usb drive to the PC, or more precisely any
single partition - which should not be mounted on the Freerunner's

I can't help on that one.  I toyed with the available media players and web
browsers several weeks ago and that was all.

[FDOM] Ye olde no sound after resume

Flashed the latest copy of FDOM today and I'm having this [1] problem 
again. Anyone else experiencing problems or just me? Fix for me was 
uninstalling speech-dispatcher and rebooting.

Thought that would be the answer :(

An idea would be a config dialog to repurpose the aux button.  I dont
use the lock function (the button sucks as a regular use button anyway)
and could perhaps be used to kill the top application in the viewing
stack as 2007.2 power button did.  Its not only kobo which has problems
like this as a couple of times I have had a unresponsive display
probably caused by dialogs not on top.

e already has one - it has about 50 config dialogs. all of them are removed
from user access/control in 2008.08 because om wanted config to be done by
their own exposure tool because it was insisted all things be done in python
and the config dialogs didnt match the ui design ideas.

so other than making such dialogs fit better in 480x640 - they are all there
and work. :)

For EBooks I have opie-reader working on the image from Qtopia.net but I
don't have enough spare time to work out how to build it for any of the
other variants. If anyone can build Qtopia apps for anything other than the
Qtopia image and can tell me how to do it, I'll have a go (or if they want
to have a go themselves I can provide the sources) - but I don't have the
spare time to experiment with the build systems to get something that works.

I use testing too but no luck :( , tried opkg upgrade right now and
just copied kernel version from wsod freerunner by ssh:

unfortunatly i didn't find a solution. i think it can be related to a gtk
setting in gconf or something like that. In /home/root/.gconf there has to
be a gconf.xml somewhere perhaps we can change it there ?? reboot needed!
