Funny enough I got an email from a friend of mine, her signature seems really appropriate here: "Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Depends on what you want to get out of the opinion poll. An expert view or a "mass market" view. Or a democratic expert decision? They may (and will!) differ and my proposal would be to get a view into both. Nikolaus Am 15.06.2008 um 21:18 schrieb steve: > > > Could we weight votes by code committed. No code. Hi Di didn't say that decisions must to be taken in democratic way. I said only that OM can, from time to time, and only when he need, to open a votation on: We must to do something how you prefer? 1. In way A 2. In way B 3. I don't matter 4. In way A and in way B Than, in the end, OM is not forced to do how it was votated. Is only to know the opinion of the people. The same thing like when it was for speaker jacket. In every case it is only an idea. Re: Why not use votation system?
I don't like the fact that a cold statistics guide decisions/development of OM (and any open-source/free software) being developed based on it, mailing list, forums and even blogs allows you to argue about, and understand more the "why" of some decisions not the decision itself only. I like more the idea of a positive/negative arguments vote system something like comments of digg.com. A lot more complex implement I suppoe but you can evaluate more accurate how the community how even "feels" about something. By the way, the idea of having such a thing like this as planet system? not to filter what is it the first page, no such news volume to even think about this almost right now ;), but to have a ponderate opinion value(how the whole comunity thinks about your and others opinions good/bad/irrelevant.? --- El jue, 12/6/08, Michele Renda <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> escribió: > De: Michele Renda <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Asunto: Re: Why not use votation system? > Para: "List for Openmoko community discussion" > Fecha: jueves, 12 junio, 2008 8:14 > Hello > > I was thinking more to a votation system about the > decisions that are > shared with community. > > Do you want feature X or feature Y? > > I think this can help a lot OM to take some decisions, and > can remain > for storical reasons.
