Jordi is not the one who is confused here. Democracy != Transparency.
Transparency is a prerequisite to democracy.
That’s exactly what he has said each time after his first post which contained
an unfortunate and inaccurate equivalency.
If you prefer it in mathematical terms, transparency is a

Quite the opposite… I am strongly in favor of an open, transparent RIR for
Africa run according to similar rules and processes to other RIRs in an
Jordi,
Perhaps how about you stop confusing transparency with democracy.
Cheers,

Hi Arnaud,
As explained, in my opinion, the basis of the democracy is transparency. You
can’t trust a country being democratic if there is no transparency.
We probably agree that after that trasparency, there are many other steps to
build democracy, and that’s the reason why there are
Owen,
I think you have a problem and you are against the existence of AFRINIC.
Democracy is different from Open communication to the community.
AFRINIC is a membership driven organisation and it's an obligation for the
community to get reports on what transpired in the courts which have thus

I think it would be more accurate to say that a functional democracy requires
transparency.
Hence, since AFRINIC
Hi Jordi,
What does democracy have to do with this? each country has its rules and as
others said, AFRINIC and its lawyers should look for ways of disclosing
their submission on this case.
I do think Mauritius is more democratic than many countries on the
continent where you live… they just have

In this specific case, a monopoly accusation has nothing to be hidden. I fully
agree with retracting personal data, but NOTHING ELSE.

Hi Jordi
I also find it unusual - but I am not sure either you or I are in a position to
opine.
Amreesh gave a perfectly reasoned explanation of what *might* be the case and I
am not sure that arguing the issue changes anything.
Maybe you can go argue the issue with the Mauritian Competition
And to add that, In fact AFRINIC is by extension a public institution by
means of the resource members who operate through the mandate of the public
across jurisdictions in which AFRINIC serves.
If an entity is going to complain anonymously that is their business but
this info ought to be public.
I’m not sure I was clear.
I understand that there may be confidential details from any of the parties,
but not the overall claim and the overall decision.
It will be very strange, at least in democratic countries (I can understand
that in dictatorial regimes, obviously), that such kind
Thanks Amreesh
I am guessing AFRINIC can waive confidentiality on its own submission - but
cannot force the complainant or Commission to waive confidentiality.
Hence my request to the CEO for AFRINIC to consider publishing its own
submission, without any further demand :-)

Dear Eddy,
I believe it will in the interest of the community to share the letter
with any personal data redacted and also share the submissions of
AFRINIC to the CCM.
Is there any other reason apart from protecting personal data for
AFRINIC not to share the letter publicly?

I fail to understand how is possible, that a resolution from a public
Competition Commission is not public, even redacting personal data if needed.
In normal democratic countries, as I know, all those cases are published in
their web site.
AFRINIC legal staff must take care of that.

There have been some interesting discussions on various lists regarding this
issue.
To the extent that AFRINIC can share any of its submissions to the CCM [which
were obviously persuasive], this will be appreciated and could close off any
future discussion.
