You know, as long as you guys are mentioning that keyswitch, has anyone ever
pulled a prank by installing capslock keyswitches on every key on the
keyboard? I think that would be one of the best computer pranks ever.

2006-01-14 Thread Bob C.
Hi Scott,

I dug out my Macintosh Service Guide, and it seems that there was only one*
type of keyswitch for the first Mac through the Mac Plus, and it's
identified as "Mitsumi Keyswitch", service part number 705-0104. I still
have one in my spare parts box, and the main body of it is black and dark
gray plastic, and the plunger is beige.

 Bob

service part number 705-0044, for the caps lock)

That would make sense. There is a distinct echo in Mac
keyboards that you don't hear in an Apple II, II+, or
IIe. Not as familiar with the IIe Platinum so I can't
comment on it. The feel of Mac and Apple II is
similar, but not congruent.

If I had more time I'd see what the differences in
these are. I've got to admit, the echo in the Mac
keyboards is awesome.

Re: Plus and Pre-Plus Keyswitches and Caps?

2006-01-12 Thread John Laughlin
The early //e keyboards have the same keyswitches. They're usually
recognized by having white writing on the keycaps and the keycaps are a
darker beige than the later keys and the ones used on the early Mac
keyboards. All three of my //e's sound the same as my Plus when I type on
the keyboards.
