When I first joined this group, it was more about keeping computers running
and less about politics (except for the occasional Mac vs. PC tussle). I
still love to hear the innovative solutions to common problems, some of
which I had not tried yet. Keep the good questions coming!

And plug it directly into a known working outlet... bypassing the plug

OK first of all if it is COAX it is not DSL it is cable service. (I
looked it up this is a FIOS modem router.)
The airport should probably be disconnected and solely let the
wireless MacBook be looking only for the DSL wireless base station.
Another scenario is to hook the Airport into the

Mesages to my dad's podunk ISP keep

I am sending text email with no attachments

No they are using some sort of blanket policy which tags some ISP's

I have had this happen before from a sterile email account.
Right now I have a few members of a email list I manage that are

The most reliable way of dealing with this issue is to do what used to
be called a nuke pave i.e., save your data, erase every thing on the
installation drive then reinstall XP then run install SP3, then finally
allow it to update, and then finally reinstall all of your programs.
