Well, I did use Karen Kenworthy's whois utility which reported "No database
entry for 208.69.32.13." Is there a generic way to check whois? I'll try
http://www.whois.com. OK, I've done that. The only dialog I find, which is
"well hidden", accepts domain names, but not IP addresses. OK, now

I've got ZA set to "ASK" before allowing Windows Updates to connect, but
apparently with the ZA/KB951748 conflict, ZA just defaulted to blocking
without bothering to ask. It did inform me that it had been blocked but
I didn't know how to unblock it, seeing as it was already set to "ASK".
FYI,
I stand corrected. Yes, Doxpara reported back on a different IP address
as well (*208.69.32.17*). I jumped to conclusions without checking.
Thanks for the education.

At this point I would just set the router to send every thing through
opendns and be done with it. Comcast may get around to fixing it
soonish but why wait on them? They seem to be several steps behind.

I'm not sure about "importation," but blocklists are generally supported by 1)
routers, 2) "parental
When you ran the Doxpara test, what IP address did it report? For me, it
reported a different IP address than either of the two (primary and secondary)
that we are supposed to use for OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220).

You won't get a prompt unless you have things set to "ask" instead of "block".
If you think "block" is always correct, make the setting so. But if there may
be time when it's not appropriate, set it to "ask". Do some exploring of the
settings available in Zone Alarm. Don't just accept the de

I've got a friend using that, well liked. It got very positive reviews from
pc mag and cnet...not sure if that matters to you. It's also got full vista

I didn't know about the issue but first suspected the MS security
patch as the culprit since the MBP in the living room was still on
line through same wireless router connection to Comcast after the XP
box had been updated and restarted. I chose to roll back the patch and
wait for a fix as I'm also
The only indication which pointed me in the direction of Zone Alarm were
two warnings from ZA which displayed that it had blocked Windows Update,
as well as Mozilla's Firefox. There was no place in ZA (that I know of),
to confirm this and/or to unblock this move. I never got a prompt which

I also have Cox as my Internet provider, but use OpenDNS, which checks
out as OK using Doxpara.com. Apparently, they've done their homework.
Chalk up another one up for open source.

This is good to know, thanks. My thinking is that the patch, while not
complete, is better than no patch; as is the Windows firewall. Thanks
also for the Kaminsky tip.

Can you explain in more detail what this means? I have nothing in the

exceptions). I have almost everything set to "ask." (And I have only a couple
of things set to "allow.") So won't the Zone Alarm firewall ask wh
