Here's a few things you can try... First don't panic. :-) Second, don't use the system restore just yet... it's possible to get things resolved without going down that route... Boot to Last Known Good Configuration. If that works, you're done. If that fails, then boot into Safe Mode

Another suggestion to the below list is to reinstall the last service pack again. That has worked in the past when problems have crept in, unlike the issue I mention above, which was most likely the result of a bad install of a service pack. With PCs installing multiple patches almost every week
