The problem was probably software related But by getting her to buy

Here's a few things you can try...
First don't panic. :-)
Second, don't use the system restore just yet... it's possible to get
things resolved without going down that route...
Boot to Last Known Good Configuration. If that works, you're done.
If that fails, then boot into Safe Mode
