Re: [CGUYS] storing CD's in jewel boxes

2007-07-17 Thread Adil Godrej
I've used Can-Am's cabinets ( http://can-am.ca/ ) for some years, as
they are multipurpose (CDs, DVDs, VHS) and store large numbers in a
small space (compared to standard book-case type racks). One of their
standard 3-drawer metal cabinets stores 800 CDs in jewel cases
(narrow and two-drawer cabinets for smaller numbers), and the
cabinets can be stacked. What I like is that their cabinets are
closed, not open-faced. Keeps the dust down. They are made of
heavy-duty metal. Although made of metal, they come in various
colors, and you can add wheels and a top to make them blend in quite
well with the other furniture (depending on the other furniture, of course).

Where do you live that you can get a craftsman make you something for
less than $1,000? (Or maybe you did pay that much.)

What do people do that would like to keep the CD's and
jewel boxes intact?

That's your archive. Put them in a box in your closet.
If your drive dies you can rebuild.

That's what I'm trying to do. I'm looking for something
like the plastic milk crate that I put my LP's in (I
have lots of those as well - I'm going to be getting rid
of those). I could stack those plastic crates with 50 or
60 albums. I don't need to see the media on a reglar
basis - that's what the MP3 files are for. Yes, the
furniture is very nice, but for me, it's overkill.

I really would like to keep the covers, etc. and will keep
looking for what makes sense.

http://www.racksandstands.com/CD-and-DVD-Storage-C14T3.html?refid=G87.cd+towergclid=CNyHxuKqp40CFQl_Hgod3As5sg

I get the impression that most folks are keeping the liner notes and the
CD itself in special three-hole punched plastic sleeves that are then
kept in three-ring binders. As for me, I have enough storage racks that
I picked up at town-wide clean up days to last me a LONG time.

I keep everything in the three ring binder type cd cases. I have too many
to want to put them all in jewel cases.

You can get 'slimline' jewel cases, these are about half the thickness of
regular jewel cases.
