Re: [CGUYS] iPod cases

2007-09-11 Thread Tom Piwowar
The other problem I had with it is that the screw that holds the case
on the belt loop pulls out and it fell off my belt.

I've been using the same iPod and case for 6 years now. To me the security of
the clip is the #1 issue. In all that time I have never had a problem with the
clip on my iPod case. But I was less careful with the cell phone clip I bought.
It fell off my belt several times and I eventually lost the cell phone. I now
have a new cell phone clip that I expect will be sufficiently secure.

I went back to the place where I bought my case and I see they are selling
something that looks identical to my case today, except I see the clip is not
as sturdy. Looks like the clip on my ill-fated cell phone case.

The good clip was held shut by a spring (similar to a clothes pin) and had a
hook on the end that had two 90° bends. The closest to that kind of clip that I
see today is the design Apple uses on the Shuffle. That is a great design and I
would not settle for less.

I bought my cases at the dollar store. Last year's $30 case is $1-5 this
year.

I like the silicone rubber cases for protection [iPod bounces, doesn't
break], except the belt clips don't work well since the case is stretchy
rubber. One of the cases has openings to slip a belt through. I'm using
a white translucent XTreme Mac case. It doesn't have screen protection
[some do], so I cut a piece of the clear plastic blister pack slightly
larger than the screen--the rubber case holds it in place--works much
better than expected. These cases make it less likely that the iPod will
fall out of your pocket.

The Griffin attachments should work OK with the rubber cases, but I had
to cut one to fit a 40GB iPod into a dock. I bought Bob a 3-pack of the
ugliest XTreme Mac cases at Dollar Tree--rust, grey and snot green--they
bounce, too.

nearly 2 years when I got my 4G iPod, I picked a $10/$20 mini-digital
camera case (at Best Buy, IIRC) with velcro closure and a velcro belt
loop. It also has a small pouch on on front under main flap where I
keep my ear buds. It has padding so the little sucker has been safe
 so far.

It's made by Lowepro and is something like this one -

Re: [CGUYS] iPod cases

2007-09-11 Thread Paula Minor
I have several different iPod cases for various activitiesand
because I like to decorate mine. g
iSkin makes many types but I've used the rubberized ones that come
with a screen protector and wheel protector. You can even get those
(the protectors) in varying colors if you like variety. They've been
very durable BUT...as others have mentioned, the belt clip breaks
eventually or slips off.
They also make a hard plastic, clear case with a kick stand so it
will sit up for watching video. I haven't used it but do use a
similar one by another company on my Lifedrive and like it a lot. It
has protected my Lifedrive well over a couple of years of drops and
bumps.

pid=585gclid=CK_0kZeFvY4CFR6QIgodch38zA

I also have the iFrogzanother rubber one that has bands that
encircle the edge of the iPod...mainly decorative but it does cover
the slot for the dock and keeps dirt out. It comes off easily but is
still a PITA if you dock and undock frequently. From that company I
also purchased my favorite casea metal one lined in rubber.
Looks great, really protects the iPod but..the belt clip broke
offthe screw actually broke in half. I tried using it just in my
pocket or slipped in my waist band but the metal is slick so it was
always slipping out.

I like this one because you wear it around your neck and can stick it
inside your shirt when working in a wet or messy environment. I use
it for gardening.

This is the clear case I use on my LIfedrive.	VERY well made and
durable. I like it a lot and if I eventually get the new iPhone-like
iPod, I'll probably get this one for it.

2007-09-10 Thread John Duncan Yoyo
I use this case from Belkin
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=367153.
It is really tough with a rubber back and a thick clear plastic
front. It will take a 30GB or a 60GB There is a hole which is just
big enough for the sync/charger cable at the bottom and two on the top
for jack and hold button. It is a pain in the butt to get the iPod
out of it but you should not need to often.

The other problem I had with it is that the screw that holds the case
on the belt loop pulls out and it fell off my belt. Super glue fixed
that. I also had the face get scratched up so I am on my second one
but one of the screen covers would protect the case as well as the
screen.

I'm fairly hard on this stuff but this one has survived over a year
and the iPod still looks like new.
