[Consdistlist] Global Conservation Forum - reminder
Dear ConsDistList subscribers, We will be launching the new Global Conservation Forum in a few days, and appreciate the huge response from you all. My colleagues are busily working to add the thousands of new registrants to the Forum. Here is some background on the move to the new platform: https://www.mail-archive.com/consdistlist@cool.conservation-us.org/msg03276.html https://www.mail-archive.com/consdistlist@cool.conservation-us.org/msg03373.html https://www.mail-archive.com/consdistlist@cool.conservation-us.org/msg03443.html If you are an AIC member or already have an account, you can join the Forum directly at http://www.culturalheritage.org/globalconservationforum. If you signed up over the weekend or Monday, you should be added to the Forum by Wednesday. When we launch the new Forum, you will receive instructions on how to adjust your subscription to a weekly format and tips on using the new list. Thank you! [Consdistlist] Look for email instructions for new ConsDistList
We are close to launching the new ConsDistList, now the Global Conservation Forum. Over the past few days, we've sent emails to both those who are in the AIC and FAIC database and those who are not. There are about 3,400 users in the Global Conservation Forum now, and 8,000 more subscribers that may need to create an account to remain on the list. Please take a moment to register for the new list using those emailed instructions. We will stop using this ConsDistList when we send the first Welcome message using the new platform next week. Scott Devine will continue to serve as moderator in the new Forum. Two notes: * If you joined with a new email and the old addresses are still subscribers, ignore or unsubscribe from the instructional emails. * If you do not want to keep your subscription to the ConsDistList (or the new Forum), simply ignore the emails. I would like to thank all of you for subscribing and participating in this discussion over the years. I hope to see you in the new Forum next week! [Consdistlist] Information about the ConsDistList move
Dear ConsDistList subscribers, I hope to send you weekly updates and reminders about the move from this platform on CoOL to our new home on the AIC and FAIC Online Community (which is at https://community.culturalheritage.org). The timeline for this move is early to mid-September. Staff members of the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) are managing the technical aspects of this transition, alongside moderator Scott Devine and FAIC's Digital Strategies Advocate Matt Morgan. You may recall that the list will be renamed the "Global Conservation Forum." Scott has agreed to send the posts as a daily email unless you request a weekly subscription. The new platform is more closely tied to AIC, and you may receive communication about this move from the email address cont...@culturalheritage.org. When we launch the new forum, the digests will be sent from AIC and FAIC via donotre...@connectedcommunity.org. This is the platform's email address. Please add these addresses to your approved senders list. Over the next few weeks, you will receive an email based on your database record history with us: 1. If you have created a profile in the past 6 to 10 years, perhaps by being an AIC member, donating to FAIC, purchasing something in our online store, or registering for an event, you are likely still in our system. You will receive an email from cont...@culturalheritage.org with instructions on updating your profile for your ConsDistList subscription. 2. If you have not interacted with AIC or FAIC (aside from joining this list), you will receive an email with instructions to create a profile in our database for your ConsDistList subscription. Please write with any questions! [Consdistlist] ConsDistList to Transition to New Platform
The Conservation Distribution List, or ConsDistList, is moving to a new platform this summer. The new platform will allow us to make significant improvements to the submission and distribution process. In addition, we have the opportunity to rename this group of 12,000+ international members to better reflect its usage and format. We welcome you to join the next iteration of the ConsDistList: The Global Conservation Forum. The Global Conservation Forum will be hosted on the AIC and FAIC Online Community platform. For those unaware, the Foundation for Advancement in Conservation (FAIC) supports the ConsDistList and its moderation, with help from those of you who donate to FAIC and CoOL. FAIC hosts several other forums in our Online Community, so this is a perfect fit. This move is vitally necessary. The software that runs the ConsDistList is aging and unable to meet the demands and restrictions of current email hosts and providers. The server itself, where the ConsDistList is hosted, is also aging and needs an upgrade. We cannot do this until all our mailing lists on CoOL are transitioned to other platforms. What does this mean for the ConsDistList? 1. The ConsDistList will not exist in the same format. There will not be volume and issue numbering. Where you now may refer to an instance of the ConsDistList, you will instead need to refer to a date, thread number, author, title, and URL. 2. The new list will be called the Global Conservation Forum. 3. The Forum digests will be sent daily; the order of the posts will be as submitted. The moderator cannot reorder the posts. 4. The Forum will still have a moderator! This new platform will be much easier to use, which makes a daily digest possible within the usual time constraints. 5. The posts can contain html styling, attachments, and hyperlinks. This is long overdue and is not available with the current software. What does this mean for you? 1. Joining the Forum is free and will remain free. If you find the service useful, you can support it through a donation to FAIC. 2. You may already have a record in our database as a member of our association, AIC, or as a customer, workshop participant, or through some other activity. We will send instructions to you explaining how to join the Forum based on whether you already have a record or not. 3. You will receive daily digests from the Global Conservation Forum when you join the group. You may also choose to receive weekly digests in addition to or in place of the daily message. 4. You can easily post to the Forum via email or link within the digest. Your post will be held by the moderator and reviewed before it is accepted. 5. We hope you will continue to find useful content, conferences, and job postings in a more easily accessible manner. I will send out more details with a timeline and procedures for signing up or logging in to the new Forum within the next few weeks. Please write to me with any questions about the process. --Bonnie Bonnie Naugle Communications & Membership Director American Institute for Conservation -Preserving Cultural Heritage- bnau...@culturalheritage.org (t) 202.661.8064 | (f) 202.452.9328 727 15th St NW | Suite 500 | Washington, DC | 20005 www.culturalheritage.org ** Unsubscribe by sending a message to consdistlist-le...@cool.conservation-us.org Searchable archives: http://cool.conservation-us.org/byform/mailing-lists/cdl/
[Consdistlist] AIC Equity and Inclusion Working Group Report
The AIC Board of Directors has released the following message about the AIC Equity and Inclusion Working Group final report. - - - - It is a privilege to release and put into action the report of the Equity and Inclusion Working Group (EIWG), Recommendations for Advancing Equity and Inclusion in the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (https://tinyurl.com/y9kswaxw). The EIWG was established in December 2016 for a term of one year and was charged with drafting a Statement on Equity and Inclusion, which was incorporated into our Core Values (https://tinyurl.com/ycx5zuhh) in April 2017. The Group was also tasked with writing a report that summarized similar efforts in allied professions and proposing avenues in furtherance of equity and inclusion in AIC Strategic Planning, and, lastly, recommending strategies and programs to help the AIC improve equity and inclusion within the organization. The final report frames the EIWG’s recommendations according to four targets: * Develop Internal Engagement and Education Processes or Resources * Increase Advocacy and Partnerships with Allied and International Professionals * Enhance Recruitment, Growth, and Retention Practices * Ensure Sustainability of Efforts The EIWG has fulfilled its charge with distinction and the Board is grateful to its members: Jennifer Hain Teper, Chair; Heather Galloway, ETC Liaison; Kimi Taira, ECPN Liaison; Anisha Gupta; Beatriz Haspo; Thomas McClintock Clearly the time has come for the AIC to commit to these efforts in a systematic and pro-active manner if meaningful progress is to be achieved. Accordingly, members are encouraged to read and reflect upon Recommendations for Advancing Equity and Inclusion in the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (https://tinyurl.com/y9kswaxw). Opportunities for member input will be scheduled and advertised. As a reflection of its endorsement of this report, the Board has formally approved the appointment of an Equity and Inclusion Committee and will be posting a call for members soon. -The American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works Board of Directors ** Unsubscribe by sending a message to consdistlist-le...@cool.conservation-us.org Searchable archives: http://cool.conservation-us.org/byform/mailing-lists/cdl/
[Consdistlist] LEUKOS Call for Papers on Museum Lighting
LEUKOS: The Journal of the Illuminating Engineering Society Special Issue: Museum Lighting Call for Papers Deadline: 31 March 2018 http://explore.tandfonline.com/cfp/est/ulks-cfp-special-issue-museum-lighting Investigating how modern lighting solutions can improve customer experiences in museums? Concerned with the challenges new lighting technologies present for conservation of museum exhibits? Please contribute your research to the Special Issue of LEUKOS on ‘Museum Lighting.’ Why this subject? Museum lighting is at a pivotal moment. Solid-state lighting (SSL) promises to transform the illumination and display of art. LED lighting offers many opportunities to present art, heritage and archaeological pieces in a better light. Literally. But they present new challenges concerning conservation and the best customer experience. The challenges are likely to be addressed from applied and multidisciplinary research. This includes engineering, architecture, vision science, psychophysics, psychology, conservation science, physics, and chemistry. This special issue will follow the 1st International Museum Lighting Symposium and Workshops, to be held September 11 – 12, 2017 at University College London.
