Of course as with my luck, neither allowed anything other than failsafe. Only gdm works to login to kde. As i said i am tired of fighting this now. gdm is my safe bet until later in the long beta cycle or after i reinstall again to get all of the conf files right. It's not worth continuing the prior conversation, so I'll leave it alone. Misunderstandings happen and people overreact. When I get to the point you are at now, I do a clean install. Of course, I keeo a local mirror of the entire Cooker tree, so I get al the updates at the sme time so I'm not sure how that solution works for you if you only have the beta3 iso's Gregory K. Of course as with my luck, neither allowed anything other than failsafe. Only gdm works to login to kde. I was aware of the mdkkdm problem however until 14mdk I had no problems. except for the past 3 or for upgrades nothing that i put in /etc/sysconfig/desktop had any effect and i had even forgot i had changed them. For they didn't have any effect! only after checking a few thing that I realized what happened. There have been many times that upgrades do break things and nothing helps except reinstalling the distro especially when I upgrade many things. I appriciate the help by the way.
