Thanks Gordon,When I look at things again, and take the 4th column as 5 acres for James, and the next column as 3 roods 2 perches, and do similar for the other Duffins, it comes to 23 acres which is the amount that Patrick had for the Griffith. So it would appear that he took over all the land

When comparing the size of the tithes with the plots in Griffiths (as Len has suggested) it's important to remember that tithes were normally measured in Irish acres, whereas Griffiths is in statute acres.So you cannot directly compare the two correctly without adjusting for the difference. To

I think I get it. For instance, James has 5 acres at a rate of 1 shilling 3 pence and 3 acres 2 roods at 1 shilling 0 pence which totals 9 shilling 9 pence tithe. All of them have 8 acres 2 roods but at slightly different rates. The equal acreages and the fact that all the names are together
