[Coworking] Re: Quick question from a newbie...video co-working?

2017-04-05 Thread Barbara Sprenger
Hi Drew,
We have two centers that are Cowork and Digital Media Centers. They are
partnerships with public access television and have studios, green screens,
high bandwidth, equipment for people to check out (really good equipment!),
classes, etc. These are great partnerships, because the capital costs are
funded by the public/non-profit entity. Our software enables reservation
tracking for all the equipment and studio, along with the regular money and
plans tracking and communication. Happy to talk to you about it.

2017-04-04 Thread S.K. Allen
I am so interested on starting something like this. I know I am years late
to this conversation, but I would like to start a video coworking space
here.

I wonder if you have had any luck with this? and if you have some advice
for me.

Thanks!

[Coworking] Re: Quick question from a newbie...video co-working?

2008-12-16 Thread Alex Hillman
Sorry its taken me a few days to chime in here, but Darrell is right (and
thanks for putting me on the hook publicly).

I've been talking about a video/media production studio set up with
coworking methodology and core values at the core of it. As you can see from
our stats that I posted in another thread, we've got a couple of media heads
here but its a small ratio. Its not for lack of interest or trying, we're
friendly with and supportive of a lot of the independent media producers in
the area. However, many of them really rely on equipment or rigs that aren't
super mobile - a mac pro is a bitch to tear down and move around the city!

Also, the value proposition for collaboration isn't as strong when there
isn't a certain mix, I think. What I'd ultimately love to create (and we're
a couple of steps closer today than we were even a couple of weeks ago) is a
space designed for and by some of the media creators in our community. Based
on conversations I've already had, the selling point isn't desks, it's
access to otherwise prohibitively expensive equipment. While the liability
of renting several thousand dollar cameras, etc, isn't something I'm stoked
about taking on, I think that some creative and enterprising models could be
created around that part of the model.

Furthermore, the inevitable coworking collaboration for video/media in
particular is really exciting to me. A seemingly singular process has so
many steps to it, and so many opportunities for specialization. Someone
likes to write but not shoot. Someone likes to shoot but not direct. Someone
likes to direct but not edit. You get the picture.

Finally, I've spoken with some folks who currently have opened and operate
medium-range budget production studios and after hearing the model I've
proposed, say duh...if I could do it all over again, I'd do it that way.

If anyone is particularly interested in the media/producion version of
coworking, perhaps we can host a chat about it in coming weeks.

Hi John,
My French teacher would be proud-- the word sans means without, as in
they did it without a business plan :-)

Are you looking to use your business plan to attract investors, determine if
the business is viable, or both? What else are you doing to ascertain
community needs?

 Thanks everyone!
Much appreciated, I explored 3rd Ward and the others... 3rd Ward
was especially amazing, especially sans official Business plans. :)
The sites suggested sites were perfect.
My next step is exploring funding options, to see which way to go as
 I create my business plans.
Thanks again for everything. I'll keep you posted as I progress.

2008-12-15 Thread John Spence
Thanks for the reply.

It is really all of the above. I am including a coffee house and that part
is done. Coworking is so new, the bp needs to include a reason why an
investor or banker would help fund it. A sales pitch really. Statistics,
surveys, getting members, pricing, anything really.

to attract new media producers who will use this resource
