Re: [crossfire] Should ship transportation cost money?

Hello.

Hey, i know i haven't speak for years in this list. But i still sometime
 read that mailing list :p

/me sees a ghost!

:)

Other time, other people, still the same problems.

Yup.

But for old players that knew about mids' server in Dutchland (yes, the one
that was located in a university that burnt), I recall having written with
lauwenmark script that not only made ship cost money, but you had several
possible fees, the more you paid the most secure was the travel. But there
was always a risk that your ship sunk and you end up on the coast in the
middle of nowhere. THAT was good for exploration :D

If you search the script, i recall we named the ship the captain n'igloo
 company :)

Thanks for the info, and the nice suggestion :)

I'm tring to get Lauwenmark to make the script, we'll see what happens :p

 Hello.

However, traveling by ship is currently free and instantaneous. It's as
easy as using a magic portal: step on and press 'a' to teleport
somewhere else. I think this discourages foot travel and devalues
exploration outside of cities. Other transport cost money, so shouldn't
  ships cost money too?

Rather than putting more money, wouldn't it be funnier to have ships be
 usable
only after the player completed some deed? Like saving a princess, solving
 enigma, or such?

So the first time she wants to get eg to Navar from Scorn, she must travel.

If she's smart she'll become a hero in Navar and be authorized to board the
 ships.

Of course that requires to write some quests for that :)

[crossfire] Should ship transportation cost money?

2013-01-06 Thread Kevin Zheng
Greetings,

Crossfire has a very big and impressive world map, spanning across a
continent filled with splendid cities and scary dungeons. Traveling by
foot is a great way to explore the world and find new adventure.

Being a huge continent, transportation infrastructure is very useful for
getting around. Dragon ports and ships are currently the most widespread
forms of transport. The former already cost money; you have to go
through the trouble of paying for an expensive ticket and board the
right dragon. The cost is a disincentive to use it too often.

However, traveling by ship is currently free and instantaneous. It's as
easy as using a magic portal: step on and press 'a' to teleport
somewhere else. I think this discourages foot travel and devalues
exploration outside of cities. Other transport cost money, so shouldn't
ships cost money too?

Thanks,
Kevin Zheng
