Nice to see some thoughtful replies. Under the circumstances, I don't want to
be the one to push this issue and start a holy war.
I do wonder if CSS itself could at least potentially come to make the
pre-processors obsolete. Why can't there be a code for all browsers, to do
something like
Andrew,
I'm not following what you mean by this -
Why can't there be a code for all browsers, to do something like transparency
or rounded corners.
Are you talking about something outside of CSS? Something else maybe?

It is spelled 'pre-wrap', the title and the body of message are a
typo...

You can pre-load images in a number of ways: either by using
sprites[1] or with CSS. This is what I have used successfully:

Dear all,
If you take a look at my site (link in signature) you will see we have a
range of Flash tutorials, most of which include code (ActionScript). My
personal preference is to have the code in a pre tag in order to keep
the logical indentations, though I have only just started doing this.
What immediately springs to mind is setting overflow: auto; on the .code
definition, not sure if its the best option or even what you want...

So good. However, the design in liquid width, and yet the pre extends
outside the bounds of the div ( I know this is normal behaviour for a div,
not to expand to fit its contents). Is there any way to force it to wrap

I have been going a bit goofy trying to keep the pre stuff from going
goofy. Particularly in the 'evil one' ('Accessibility' mode, ignore font
sizes specified on Web page checked, @ text size-largest). Seeking
