Yes, it does behave weird in IE8.

I would start by validating your html code http://validator.w3.org/
(20 errors at the moment)
Also validate your css code http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ (26
errors at the moment)

There is a good chance that you problems will either clear up or
become obvious after you validate the page.

[css-d] display 'filmstrip' at bottom of page

2010-09-30 Thread Thijs Hakkenberg

 Dear list,

I'm building a mockup for a magazine with jquery. The carousel generates
a filmstrip in html (see below) on the page

http://tijdschriftei.nl/ (user is jasper, pass is EImagazine (caps!))
But, I want the filmstrip seperated, on the bottom of the page, and with
a grey background with width 100%.

However, I can't seem te seperate the strip from the rest. Any pointers?

Thanks,

Thijs

what a silly mistake to make.

However,
both
#block-uc_catalog-0 a:active {
and
#block-uc_catalog-0 li a:active

won't show the background whilst #block-uc_catalog-0 a:hover {
works.

  True, I was double mistaken.
The class is .active: http://winkel.varkensinnood.nl/catalog/2

However, both
#block-uc_catalog-0 a .active {

 a:active will only be styled for a brief second when you click a link and
 must be listed AFTER a:hover in order to work. It seemed from your original

 that you had clicked on and now represented the current section. In that
 case, you will have to, in fact, add a class.

 This is an example menu [1] by Thierry Koblentz. Perhaps it will give
 you some ideas. It is rather complicated to execute but does work
 extremely well cross-browser.

 Thijs,

 I think you'll have far better luck cross-browser constructing a menu that is
 known to work cross-browser. The Stu Nicholls article you pointed to is old.
 And more current versions of his menu that work cross-browser tend to be a
 kludge of CSS, CSS hacks, and tables. As previously written, Thierry's menu
 [link above] fills the bill.
 This is another menu that will work for you, that is a little easier to
 construct, but it will not work from the keyboard:

 Hi Thijs,

 Your images are too wide for their container. The container
 (.csc-textpic-imagerow) is 466 pixels wide. Each image is 101 pixels wide,
 with an additional 8 pixels padding (4 each side). The list items containing
 them (apart from the first column) have a left margin of 20 pixels. (4 * 109)
 + (3 * 20) = 496 pixels.

 If you set that left margin to 10px instead, you'll get what you're
 probably looking for.

 David is right, it's the script.

 Try these two lines:

 if(a.title == description){a.disabled = false;}
 else if(a.title != default){a.disabled = true;}

 instead of these:

 if(a.getAttribute(title) == description){a.disabled = false;}
 else if(a.getAttribute(title) != default){a.disabled = true;}

 In short, get rid of getAttribute()

 The usual thing, and IE (6+7) is wrong. Gecko, WebKit, Opera look all
 the same and are correct.
 The issue is one of margin-collapsing (-through). The margin-top on
 the h2 is outside of the blue box (#header).
 That doesn't happen in IE, 'cause you have declared a 'height' on the
 div (triggers 'hasLayout'), and that prevents the margin of collapsing
 through.

 Try adding a 1px border at the top of the div. That will fix the issue.

 I *do* see a problem in IE 7 -- when you apply page zoom the

 This is a known IE 7 bug. I suggest adding an extra (IE-only?)

however, it yields a:
