Listers,
I'm still new to grid (and flex, for that matter). I have a sample
page where an individual flex item squeezes responsively as I want,
but when it is inside a css grid container, it stops.
https://tomliv.com/flex-in-grid/
Why do they not squeeze up inside the grid?

The span is an inline element which doesn't respond to margin styles.
add a declaration for the span to be inline-block (or block) and then

I tend to favor floats myself. The biggest issue I've run into is having to

background images to be the right size or position in IE9 +. Some are
fine, some don't work at all.
Anyone got a suggestion?

that structure. rem is based on the root element's font size, making
it - I assume - dependent on how each browser renders a font, which is
where your slight differences come from. Also, the border widths you
have set are different.

Right, sorry. Was thinking about it wrong.

If I am not mistaken, and for clarity, you would not include the '#'
in
ith many things, your browser support needs may vary. I believe
this will work back to IE8 or 9. caniuse.com listed other attribute
selectors but I didn't see this one specifically listed.

I accidentally replied off list with...
a[class="table-of-contents"]{
color: red;
}
Google "Attribute Selectors"
But more in line with the OP's actual question:
a[href*="table-of-contents"]{
color: red;
}

-child{align-self: flex-end;} to get the last to stick to
the bottom of s, but this isn't working. Where am I messing it up?
Thanks

No. This...
body {
background-image: url('my300pximage.jpg');
}
@media and (min-width: 700px) {
body {
background-image: url('my700pximage.jpg');
}
}
...is not Sass, but it does what you described.

This accomplishes what you were describing.

@media screen and (min-width: 900px){

}
}
Just use the correct order and positioning for the new image.

hat the 3 images were
replaced with the single 4th image and positioned at img2's position, at
900px wide. I think you need to make sure you are accounting for the
attributes of all three initial images when you override them.
