I am sure that your CSS layout is overall perfectly up to the task, and could be made to work. But I am just thinking that others have cracked this nut with more easily used layouts. Like take a look at this one: http://blog.html.it/layoutgala/LayoutGala13.html Within a few minutes I think

I completely understand the challenge aspect of this! but suggested this alternative because it seemed to me that you'd been struggling for a very long time and might by now be at your wit's end. There are other fairly pricey CSS layout products out there, as you know, but the link I sent you
