Bush gave accounts of their roles spurring on the federal Whitewater probe in 1992 at sharp variance with testimony of other Bush administration officials. But those conflicting stories of political intrigue were glossed over in the final report on the 10-year investigation. The elder Bush’s White House counsel C. Boyden Gray and Secretary to the Cabinet Edie Holiday spoke with high-ranking law-enforcement officials in the weeks before the 1992 election. Those conversations prompted inquiries from Washington to investigators in Arkansas about pressing ahead with a criminal probe that would have named Bill and Hillary Clinton as potential witnesses. The pre-election probe was stopped by Charles Banks, a Republican U.S. attorney in Little Rock who concluded that the Bush administration wanted to provoke an investigation so the embarrassing news could be leaked about Clinton and used to reelect George H.W. Bush. The prosecutor refused to go along. While Banks’ resistance has been known for several years, the formal responses from Gray and Holiday were first disclosed in the final Whitewater report issued by special prosecutor Robert Ray on Wednesday, a day before he declared his candidacy, as a Republican, for the U.S. Senate seat in New Jersey. Gray and Holiday – two of the senior Bush’s closest aides – told Whitewater investigators that they had no inside knowledge when they asked about the case in the weeks before the election. They said they were not trying to instigate a formal investigation for political purposes. Although their accounts were contradicted by other senior Bush administration officials, the possibility that the federal Whitewater probe may have started as a political dirty trick aimed at fixing a presidential election was never seriously pursued by Ray or his predecessor Kenneth Starr, who was Bush's solicitor general. They focused instead on whether Banks and others who resisted the investigation had obstructed justice. The Early Days The origins of the federal Whitewater investigation date back to summer 1992 when a Resolution Trust Corp. investigator named Jean Lewis drafted a criminal referral on Madison Guaranty Savings Loan, which was owned by James McDougal, a partner in the Whitewater real estate deal with the Clintons. Lewis, who considered herself a conservative Republican and privately described Clinton as a "lying bastard," listed the Clintons as prospective witnesses in the Madison case. She soon began pestering the FBI in Little Rock to pursue her referral. To avoid political manipulation of the case, Banks and local FBI officials decided that no investigation should be started until after the November presidential election. “Banks thought the reason for the push (to investigate) was the high-profile witnesses named – the Clintons in particular – and the RTC was angling for an overt investigation before the imminent presidential election because the inquiry would become public,” the Whitewater report said. Banks, a Republican who did not consider himself a friend of Bill Clinton and opposed Clinton’s political views, rejected a pre-election probe even after then-President Bush nominated Banks for a federal judgeship in August 1992. Though Banks kept the Madison referral inside his office in Little Rock, word still spread to Washington. “Not long after the referral arrived in Little Rock – and some weeks before (Banks’ office) officially notified officials at Main Justice of its existence – high-level Bush administration officials heard rumors about the referral from other sources,” the Whitewater report said. Attorney General Alerted One of those contacted was Attorney General William P. Barr, who “learned about the possible existence of the referral on Sept. 17, 1992” from Edie Holiday, Bush’s secretary to the Cabinet, the report said. According to Barr’s account, “Holiday said she wanted to ask Barr something, but she was not sure if it would be appropriate. Barr said she could ask, with the understanding that he would not tell her anything if it was not appropriate. “Holiday asked if Barr would be aware of a pending matter in Justice – she may have said it was a criminal referral – about a presidential candidate or a family member of a presidential candidate,” the Whitewater report said. “Barr said he would if it was pending in the Department of Justice. Holiday said she was talking about a savings and loan matter, and it became clear to Barr she was referring to Governor Clinton. Holiday did not say where she heard the rumor, and Barr did not ask.” The inquiry from Holiday convinced Barr to begin a discreet search to see if an investigation of Clinton was underway. “Barr did not want anyone in the Justice Department to know he was inquiring about the matter, to avoid the perception that he was

We need an open, unprejudiced debate about it Until recently, America's middle east policy was a peripheral part of its global strategy, which focused on preventing the Soviet Union from intimidating US allies in western Europe and east Asia. Britain was the dominant western power in the middle east until the 1960s, and US influence was countered in much of the region by the Soviet Union until the end of the cold war. The indifference of much of the national security elite and the public to the region, in between crises, permitted US policy to be dominated by two US domestic lobbies, one ethnic and one economic-the Israel lobby and the oil industry (which occasionally clashed over issues like US weapons sales to Saudi Arabia). Times have changed. The collapse of the Soviet empire created a power vacuum which has been filled by the US, first in the Persian Gulf following the Gulf war, and now in central Asia as a result of the Afghan war. Today the middle east is becoming the centre of US foreign policy-a fact illustrated in the most shocking way by the al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington. A debate within the US over the goals and methods of American policy in the middle east is long overdue. Unfortunately, an uninhibited debate is not taking place, because of the disproportionate influence of the Israel lobby. Today the Israel lobby distorts US foreign policy in a number of ways. Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, enabled by US weapons and money, inflames anti-American attitudes in Arab and Muslim countries. The expansion of Israeli settlements on Palestinian land makes a mockery of the US commitment to self-determination for Kosovo, East Timor and Tibet. The US strategy of dual containment of Iraq and Iran, pleases Israel-which is most threatened by them-but violates the logic of realpolitik and alienates most of America's other allies. Beyond the region, US policy on nuclear weapons proliferation is undermined by the double standard that has led it to ignore Israel's nuclear programme while condemning those of India and Pakistan. The debate that is missing in the US is not one between Americans who want Israel to survive and those-a marginal minority-who want Israel to be destroyed. The US should support Israel's right to exist within internationally-recognised borders and to defend itself against threats. What is needed is a debate between those who want to link US support for Israel to Israeli behaviour, in the light of America's own strategic goals and moral ideals, and those who want there to be no linkage. For the American Israel lobby, Tony Smith observes in his authoritative study, Foreign Attachments: The Power of Ethnic Groups in the Making of American Foreign Policy (Harvard), "to be a 'friend of Israel' or 'pro-Israel' apparently means something quite simple: that Israel alone should decide the terms of its relations with its Arab neighbours and that the US should endorse these terms, whatever they may be." The Israel lobby is one special-interest pressure group among many. It is a loose network of individuals and organisations, of which the most important are the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC)-described by the Detroit Jewish News as "a veritable training camp for Capitol Hill staffers"-and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organisations. The Israel lobby is not identical with the diverse Jewish-American community. Many Jewish-Americans are troubled by Israeli policies and some actively campaign against them, while some non-Jewish Americans-most of them members of the Protestant right-play a significant role in the lobby. Even pro-Israel groups differ on the question of Israeli policies. According to Matthew Dorf in the Jewish Telegraphic Agency: "The Zionist Organisation of America lobbies Congress to slow the peace process. Their allies are mostly Republicans. At the same time, the Israel Policy Forum and Americans for Peace Now work to move the process along. Democrats are most sympathetic to their calls." The Israel lobby is united not by a consensus about Israeli policies but by a consensus about US policies towards Israel. Most of the disparate elements of the pro-Israel coalition support two things. The first is massive US funding for Israel. The report had been presented in the framework of an Inter provincial meeting held in Islamabad aimed at discussing the law and order situation in the country. It had also been submitted to a high-ranking meeting held on recently under the chairmanship of Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf, according to Pakistan News Service (PNS). The lobby, according to the report, was also pushing the “nefarious propaganda” that the US could never eliminate Osama bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda network and other terrorist groups unless the extremist groups including the Al-Qaeda organization were targeted within Pakistan. In the report, it has been disclosed that armed Taliban forces, following their downfall in Kabul, have crossed over the borders to neighboring countries. Pakistan has increased its security on its common borders with neighboring Afghanistan, however, the report suggested, further security measures still needed to be heightened. In view of the report, a large amount of Arab and Afghan nationals belonging to bin Laden’s Al-Qaida network have already been arrested. A significant number of deadly clashes also have occurred between Al-Qaeda members taking safe refuge in the areas of Chaman, Torkham, Northern Waziristan and Kurram Ageny and Pakistani law enforcement agencies when the Taliban fighters had tried to slip into Pakistan. In a specific incident, according to the report, in the midst of a shoot out at the Kurram agency, 13 people, including 6 law enforcement personnel had been killed. The sensitive report added that the Pakistani government had taken all necessary measures to put in place an effective security system at the borders and improve stability within the country. Moreover, the Federal government had also provided an additional amount of Rs 205 million to the different provinces in order to control law and order, the report added. Furthermore, with regards to the situation in the aftermath of the US attacks on Afghanistan, law and order in Pakistan had assumed a new dimension, it said. The US has failed as of now in its efforts to track down Al-Qaeda leader and suspected terror mastermind Osama bin Laden and Mullah Omar, nor has it succeeded in eliminating the Al-Qaeda network, the report concluded. In a related development, commander of the US forces in Afghanistan said Wednesday that they might cross the border into neighboring Pakistan to capture or kill Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda and Taliban fighters widely believed to have found safe sanctuary in that country. During an interview at his headquarters at the Bagram Air Base situated in the war-stricken country of Afghanistan, Major General Franklin L. Hagenbeck said chasing Al Qaeda and the Taliban into Pakistan would be a "last resort" carried out with the approval of Pakistani leaders, The New York Times reported. Meanwhile, an estimated 20 miles from the border with Pakistan, near Khost, American troops had been attacked from several directions on Tuesday night, American military officials said. One soldier had been injured. General Hagenbeck said it was not clear whether the Americans were caught in fighting between Afghan factions or had come under attack from Taliban or Al Qaeda fighters. American commanders have said that fighting in Afghanistan may rise as the snow melts during the spring season. There also have been growing indications that American military leaders are thinking about expanding the field of action by moving against Taliban and Al Qaeda sanctuaries in Pakistan, where the government says it has deployed thousands of troops to seal the border. General Hagenbeck did not provide specific information, however said any eventual move into Pakistan would more likely be planned to thwart movements by the opposing side rather than to stage a chase across national frontiers. "Hot pursuit would probably be my last resort," General Hagenbeck said, quoted by the Times. "What we would try to do is anticipate any type of operations that would cause the enemy to go into Pakistan, and we would try to coordinate with the Pakistan government, and our ambassador in Pakistan, before we did any of those kinds of operations." One of the many disturbing parallels that can be drawn between today's events and climate, when measured against George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984, is the character of Osama bin Laden. Using Hitler's old mantra - 'tell a lie loud and long enough and people will believe it' - the media has successfully imprinted this individual and his associative labels firmly onto the collective consciousness of the Western masses. In 1984, there was a bogeyman figure with a beard known as Goldstein. The general public, of whose leaders were at war with Goldstein, were mandated to practice a daily ritual of hate towards him. Goldstein was a shadowy figure who always seemed to evade capture. Follow the lineage of bogeymen - Gadaffi, Hussein, bin Laden - and we have a plethora of useful Goldstein's. The media and the US intelligence agencies say Bin Laden is guilty. Who are we to argue? We know for a fact these two glorious institutions would never lie to us. Osama bin Laden left Saudi Arabia in 1979 to fight the invading Soviets in Afghanistan. By 1984 he was running the front organization known as MAK, (Maktab al-Khidamar) which eventually mutated into Al-Qaeda, consisting of the more extreme members of the former group. During the war MAK was nurtured by Pakistan's Inter-services Intelligence Agency, ISI. The ISI was the CIA's covert ally and conduit against Moscow's occupation. Via the ISI the kindergarten Al-Qaeda were trained, armed, funded and empowered by the CIA.(2) The new covert U.S. assistance began with a dramatic increase in arms supplies -- a steady rise to 65,000 tons annually by 1987, as well as a "ceaseless stream" of CIA and Pentagon specialists who travelled to the secret headquarters of Pakistan's ISI on the main road near Rawalpindi, Pakistan. There the CIA specialists met with Pakistani intelligence officers to help plan operations for the Afghan rebels, bin Laden included. The Central Intelligence Agency, using Pakistan's ISI, played a key role in training the Mujahideen. In turn, the CIA sponsored guerrilla training was integrated with the teachings of Islam.(3) Mainstream analysts engage in reductionism by stating that these horrific mistakes in foreign policy are purely accidental, yet we see the same pattern repeat itself over and over with our lineage of elite bogeymen. When one considers the voluminous evidence derived from official sources, domestic and foreign mainstream media, and alternative media, the only logical conclusion is that elements within the US Government had specific foreknowledge of the events of September 11th and allowed the attacks to take place when preventative measures could and should have been taken to prevent them. There are many fingers pointing in different directions as to responsibility and culpability. I claim not to be able to pinpoint precisely which party, if singular, is to blame. Furthermore, I think that to attempt to identify an individual faction (such as al-Qaeda) is limited and naive. However, I can state with absolute certainty that the consensus viewpoint concerning the attack on America is not merely incorrect, but a damning betrayal towards the thousands people killed and their mourning relatives. This is the second in a series of reports in which I intend to fulfil that exact brief. This instalment mainly concerns events prior to September 11th and not the actual day itself. A full synopsis of the events of that day will be detailed in a subsequent part of this series. September 14th, just three days after the attack on America, FBI director Robert S. Mueller stated, "perhaps one could have averted this."(1) This was in response to reports confirming that several of the suicide hijackers had received flight training within the United States. For the moment we will set aside the shocking revelation that seven of the named nineteen suicide hijackers are still alive(2), this evidence will appear in a later part of this report. For the sake of clarity, at this point we will work from the notion that the FBI's nineteen named hijackers are actually the ones who carried out the September 11 atrocities (albeit operating under slightly changed birth dates and/or names with regard to the discrepancies between military training records and the official FBI list). As you will see, the consensus line can be attacked from numerous different angles. The Pensacola Naval Air Station is recognized as the premier naval installation in the Department of the Navy. The Complex in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties employs more than 16,000 military and 7,400 civilian personnel. It is also where as many as four of the FBI's nineteen suspected suicide hijackers participated in the facility's flight training program for foreign military trainees in the 1990's.(3) Three of these individuals listed their addresses on drivers licenses and car registrations as the Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Fla. according to a high-ranking U.S. Navy source.(4) Namely Saeed Alghamdi and Ahmad Alnami, who allegedly were two of the four men that hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 and subsequently crashed in Stony Creek Township, Pennsylvania, and Ahmed Alghamdi*, alleged co-hijacker of United Airlines Flight 75, which hit the south tower of the World Trade Center. Military records also confirm that the three used their address as 10 Radford Boulevard, a base roadway on which residences for foreign military flight trainees are located. The Florida link is clear. The FBI lists no less than eleven of the hijackers as having lived or living in Florida, including six in the Delray Beach area alone.(5) It is also interesting to note that several of the hijackers, including the lead hijacker Mohamed Atta, lived in Hollywood, hardly a puritanical hotbed of Islamic fundamentalism. With regard to the three Pensacola students, it is confirmed that their training was financed by Saudi Arabia, birthplace of the majority of the nineteen hijackers and a supposed ally of the United States. South Florida) 03/21/2002 TODAY'S HEADLINES (U-WIRE) TAMPA, Fla. -- The pending situation involving controversial University of South Florida professor Sami Al-Arian compounded Wednesday when a former federal prosecutor filed a civil suit against him in state court. John Loftus, president for St. Petersburg's Holocaust Museum and well-known author on terrorism and intelligence, is claiming Al-Arian conspired against the United States with the Saudi Arabian government. He also alleges Al-Arian used the guise of a charitable organization to funnel money into Saudi terrorist groups. Al-Arian said Wednesday the allegations are nonsense. (Loftus) needs to be put in an insane asylum, Al-Arian said. He characterized Loftus' claim as rehashed allegations that already have been disproved. According to a St. Petersburg Times report, Loftus said in the suit, which was filed in state court Wednesday, the U.S. Department of Justice has had enough evidence to charge Al-Arian, but making public Al-Arian's money-laundering network would embarrass the Saudis, who are American allies. Loftus also was quoted in other news sources as saying an unnamed government official has taped conversations that prove Al-Arian's guilt. The suit compounds Al-Arian's problems as he awaits the decision of USF President Judy Genshaft, who sent him a letter of intent to terminate late last year. Al-Arian, a Palestinian who has lived in the United States for nearly 30 years, came under fire eight years ago when allegations a USF-based Middle Eastern think tank, which he founded, served as a front for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The FBI four years ago investigated the claim but never found sufficient evidence to charge the professor with a crime. In October 2000 Federal Judge R. Kevin McHugh said though Al-Arian's think tank, World and Islam Studies Enterprise, was accused of serving as a front for PIJ and Hamas, there was no evidence that proved that allegation. Instead he characterized WISE as a reputable and scholarly research center. USF's faculty union President Roy Weatherford announced the pending suit at Wednesday's Faculty Senate meeting. After the meeting, Weatherford said the suit will not change the union's decision to support Al-Arian if he is fired by Genshaft. He said people sometimes mistake the union's support for Al-Arian, making the assumption its support stretches farther than academic freedom. This is an entirely personal, private issue, Weatherford said. We're not his personal support group or his political cheerleaders. Weatherford said even if Al-Arian loses the civil court battle, Genshaft still does not have justification for firing him. A three-member panel from the American Association of University Professors visited USF last week and met with both Al-Arian and Genshaft. The group will gather information on campus and write a report on its findings. If the panel determines Genshaft has violated academic freedom, USF could be censured, or blacklisted, by June 2003. (Let's hope this catches on in cities across America) Denver Bows Out Of 'Patriot Act' And 'War On Terror' 3-22-2 DENVER - The local government here officially threw its lot in with Portland, Ore. and a handful of other municipalities around the country, passing a resolution Monday night discouraging police from enforcing new anti-terror legislation if doing so would interfere with peoples' civil rights. A non-binding resolution passed by the city council in response to the federal USA Patriot Act discourages Denver police from investigating groups or individuals based on their country of origin or immigration status. The resolution bars police from assisting in parts of the federal government's anti-terrorism campaign. Councilwoman Kathleen MacKenzie, who co-sponsored the resolution, said the measure urges police not to go too far in the wake of Sept. 11. In this city, it's not a crime to have dark skin, she said. It's not a crime to be from a different country. It's not a crime to express unpopular views. The move comes a week after revelations that Denver police officials have been keeping secret files on protest groups like Amnesty International, anti-globalization protestors and the American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker group. The American Civil Liberties Union, which revealed that the files were being kept, said the police department had some 3,200 files on individuals and 208 files on organizations dating to about 1999. Following the revelation, Mayor Wellington Webb reprimanded police officials and said they had interpreted city policy too broadly. Targeting some citizens for surveillance and ignoring others because of their race or national origin didn't sit well with everyone on the council, however. The resolution passed by a 7-4 margin after nearly two hours of debate in front of a standing-room-only audience. Among the opponents of the resolution was Councilman Ed Thomas, who said the new police powers are needed for public safety and that it would unnecessarily tie the hands of Denver police. If you think this is the last terrorist act in this country you are sadly mistaken, said Thomas, a former police officer. I think it's inappropriate to not remember the people who died 9/11 and that's exactly what we are doing. Councilwoman Cathy Reynolds called the measure poppycock, and complained that people around the country would view Denver in a bad light if it passed. A handful of other cities, including Portland, Ore., have questioned the scope of the USA Patriot law, which expands law enforcement's surveillance and investigative powers in order to combat domestic and international terrorism. Portland officials refused to help federal authorities interview people about the terrorist attacks. Although Denver's resolution doesn't have the force of law, supporters on the council said Mayor Webb has indicated he likely will make it part of the police operations. The resolution was proposed by the All Nations Alliance, a group that made a name for itself protesting the city's annual Columbus Day parade as a celebration of genocide against Native Americans. British objections to the use of British-supplied weapons in Israel's latest military
push against the Palestinians have focused new attention on the United States'
reluctance to restrain Israel's use of the multi-billion-dollar, high-tech arms it
sells to
the Jewish state each year.
The US is embarrassed by the high profile given to some of its machinery in the
occupied territories - particularly its F-16 fighter jets, in missile strikes against
police
stations and other public buildings, and its Apache attack helicopters, in Israel's
controversial campaign to assassinate Palestinian militants.
But the Administration has refused to go public with its growing unease over the use
of US weaponry, in what the UN Secretary- General, Kofi Annan, now calls an all-
out conventional war on Palestinian civilians.
But last week Britain revealed that in 2000 it had extracted a written assurance from
Israel that no military equipment originating from Britain would be used in the
occupied territories. The revelation was sparked when a British diplomat stationed in
the Middle East recognised an Israeli armoured personnel carrier as a modified
Centurion tank, which Britain had supplied to Israel up until 1970.
Now Britain is demanding an explanation from the Israelis. Last year an unnamed US
State Department spokesman told The Independent in London that at some point
Washington would have to make a call on whether the Israelis were in breach of a
stipulation in the Arms Export Control Act that weapons sold could be used only for
legitimate self-defence - but yesterday a department spokeswoman would not tell
the Herald if the issue had advanced.
Israel is one of the biggest buyers of US arms, and much of the trade is financed with
the $US2 billion a year it gets from Washington in military aid. Its arsenal includes
dozens of US helicopters (AH 64As, AH 1Fs, AH 1Gs); hundreds of tanks (M-60s)
and armoured personnel carriers; and the biggest fleet of American fighter aircraft
outside the US (F-15s, F-16s, F-4s and A-4s).
A US-based lobby group, the Palestinian Monitor, says the US should act against
Israel because of its consistent pattern of gross violations of internationally
recognised human rights and, in particular, killings carried out by its airborne

US-led action against Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq would likely involve the help of internal and external opponents of the regime. These include semi-autonomous Iraqi Kurdish groups in the north, Shia Muslim groups in the south, senior army officers who have defected, and the Iraqi National Congress which says it acts as an umbrella for numerous other exiled opposition groups. Click below for details on each group Iraqi National Congress Iraqi National Accord Kurdish groups Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq Iraqi National Congress The Iraqi National Congress is the best known of the exiled Iraqi opposition groups. It was founded in 1992 as an umbrella grouping of mainly Kurdish and Shia opposition members. In its heyday, the INC had a stronghold and small army based in the US-protected Kurdish territory in northern Iraq. It saw itself as a government in waiting and had influential friends in America. Ahmed Chalabi has friends in the US But in 1995, an INC attempt to co-ordinate an offensive against the Iraqi army ended in failure with hundreds of deaths. The group had help from the CIA and American and British aircraft patrolling the 'no-fly' zones set up after the Gulf War. A year and a half later, the INC was routed from northern Iraq after Saddam Hussein's troops overran its base in Arbil. A number of party officials were executed and others - including its head Ahmad Chalabi - fled the country. Mr Chalabi, a Shia Muslim intellectual and scion of a wealth banking family, eventually ended up in American, where he was feted by some US officials. He has strong backing in Congress and parts of the Pentagon. Hoewever, some US politicians favoured supporting other opposition groups such as the exiled defectors from the Iraqi army. Mr Chalabi subscribed to the three-city plan, which called for defectors to capture and numbers of key areas that would isolate and surround the Iraqi president. This plan had little support from Arab governments, which said they would not allow Mr Chalabi to run a liberation army from their soil. In 1998, US President Bill Clinton approved a plan to spend almost $100m to help the Iraqi opposition - principally the INC - to topple Mr Hussein. But only a fraction of the money was ever spent, and the INC suffered leadership problems. Mr Chalabi was accused by some opposition figures of using the INC to further his own ambitions. The INC leader is said to have little grassroot support in Iraq and a number of opposition groups have sought to distance themselves from the INC. (click here to return) Iraqi National Accord The Iraqi National Accord consists mainly of military and security defectors and supports the idea that the US should try to foster a coup from within the Iraqi army. Some estimates put the number of former Iraqi officers living in exile in Europe and America at1,000. It was set up in 1990 by the Iraqi-born Shiite Ayad Alawi. Reports say the group has received financial support from US, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Britain. Demonstrations against US strikes are being organised in Baghdad The INA prospects for success were boosted in 1995, when Mr Hussein's son-in-law General Hussein Kamil al-Majid defected to Jordan. He was responsible for helping to build Iraq's arsenal and reported to have provided intelligence about Iraq's evasion of weapons inspections. It appeared that the Iraqi president's grip on his regime was weakening. But the INA suffered a set back a year later when the president's intelligence services were reported to have infiltrated the group's operations. Up to 100 officers inside Iraq were rounded up and some were executed. The INA was one of the opposition groups earmarked for US funding in 1998. Between them they have about 40,000 troops and constitute the main armed threat to Saddam Hussein. Kurds account for 19% of the Iraqi population Some Americans have suggested recruiting the Kurds and giving them a similar role as the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan - as a bridgehead to toppling the regime. At the edge of the ruined field, a sign with a skull and crossbones warns, Danger Poison. The field was among a number of plots ruined by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's government, which last month sent out crop-dusters with herbicides to destroy 3,000 acres of wheat planted, without authorization, by Bedouin farmers in the arid Negev region of southern Israel. The destruction has brought to the surface a long- simmering feud between the small, impoverished Bedouin population and the government in Jerusalem. The Bedouins were nomads whose unfettered way of life, clannish sense of honor and hospitality were the stuff of Middle Eastern legend. Since Israel was founded in 1948, they have been among the most docile of its Arab citizens. No longer. Years of second-class status have bred resentment among the 140,000 of them, and for the first time they are speaking out in militant tones. To many Bedouins, the crop destruction symbolized a feeling that life in Israel is a dead end. If these problems are not dealt with properly, we will have an uprising here, like the Palestinians, said Mohamed Abu Ibrahim Bader, who lost 75 acres to the crop-dusters. The longer this goes on, the more likely we will have an internal explosion. The incident came at a time when Israel is engaged in a grueling battle with Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, while trying to tamp down frustrations among its million- member, non-Bedouin Arab population. The more that Bedouins believe there is no end to their problems, the more fearless they are becoming. They are willing to fight for rights, said Banna Shoughry- Badarne, a lawyer for the independent Association for Civil Rights in Israel. Disputes between Bedouins and the government date from 1948. Tens of thousands of Bedouins fled the founding war, never to return. The remaining population, which numbered about 13,000, was herded into the northeastern part of the Negev, the spade-shaped expanse of southern Israel. They were forbidden to return to ancestral areas, which they had used for grazing and growing wheat. In the 1960s, the government began an attempt to resettle Bedouins into seven townships. About half the current population resides in the townships, and the rest is spread among informal and, under Israeli law, illegal villages. The population of each of the 45 unrecognized settlements varies from 500 to 5,000, usually members of the same clan. The settlements lack water, paved roads and schools. Most of the homes are made of tin. To attract Bedouins to townships, the government offered subsidized housing -- as long as the inhabitants gave up claims to outside land. Bedouins resisted. By tradition, they prefer to live among members of their clan, rather than in a mixed urban setting. It also turned out that the townships were bedroom communities -- no provisions were made for industrialization or agriculture. Bedouins were expected to find work in Jewish settlements or in Beersheba, the largest Negev city. About 65 percent of the Bedouin population lives below the poverty line. Bader claims to own land near Laqiya, which is an officially recognized town 13 miles east of Beersheba. After a few years of letting the land lie fallow, he decided to plant wheat. This was a good year for rain. The return would be good, he said. Anyway, I have land. Why shouldn't I use it? He asserted that his family's ownership dates from Ottoman rule in Palestine, which ended with the British mandate after World War I. He did not register it with British authorities; many Bedouins resisted paying land tax to the foreign occupiers. On the morning of Feb. 14, crop-dusters appeared over the flat horizon. I thought it was strange, but that maybe they came to kill insects on someone else's land. Instead they came to kill my crops, said Bader, a retiree. Within days, the entire crop wilted. Government agents arrived to put up warning signs, even though the Infrastructure Ministry, which was responsible for the poisoning, said the chemicals were harmless to humans. Bedouins protested in Beersheba. An Arab representative in Israel's parliament, Taleb Sana, told a television interviewer, The Bedouin ought to equip themselves with arms and go to war with Israel. The government contends the land belongs to Israel and the plantings were illegal. It was more efficient to ruin the crops by air than to send in security forces to clear the land, officials said. Legislation opening Germany up to immigration for the first time since the 1970s was
pushed through parliament yesterday, causing a furious constitutional row and
ensuring that race will play a central role in this year's general election.
Rightwing members of the normally sedate upper house bellowed in rage and
slammed their desks with their hands after the Speaker, a member of Gerhard
Schröder's Social Democrat party (SPD), disallowed a vote that would have robbed
the government of its majority.
There is a clear danger that rightwing Germans will feel their country has been
tricked into taking in more foreigners. With one in 10 German workers out of a job,
the issue has become even more highly charged than usual.
The government had made substantial concessions in an effort to create a bipartisan
approach and keep race out of the September election. The amended bill allows in a
limited flow of skilled foreign workers. But it also makes Germany's already stringent
asylum laws even tighter and lays down conditions for the integration of foreigners.
Courses are to be held for long-term foreign residents covering German language,
culture and society. Those whose knowledge of the language is judged to be
insufficient will be obliged to attend.
The maximum age at which children can join their immigrant parents in Germany has
been lowered from 14 to 12 in a vain attempt to meet conservative objections.
The rightwing opposition, fled by Edmund Stoiber, was never likely to be won over
easily. The Bavarian Christian Democrat leader has refused from the start to accept
the government's fundamental contention that Germany needs immigration because
of its ageing population and shortage of skilled workers in key areas.
His initial response, two years ago, was to propose measures to encourage German
married couples to have more children.
We don't need more immigration but better controls on the immigration we now
have, he said.
Mr Stoiber, who will lead the Christian Democrats into the election, said he was
deeply outraged by yesterday's result, which had pitched Germany into a
comprehensive constitutional crisis.
The upper house, the Bundesrat, is made up of delegations from each of the 16
German states.
They normally cast bloc votes. But the Christian Democrat member for the eastern
state of Brandenburg shouted out a no as his SPD colleague was registering a
yes.
It was the first time a delegation had split since 1949 and the speaker ruled that the
senior, Social Democrat, representative's vote should prevail.
Mr Stoiber held back from a decision to take the matter to the constitutional court,
but several leading conservatives appealed to the president, Johannes Rau, not to
sign the bill into law.
Race has for years been a subject of intense and continuing controversy in
Germany. One of the earliest measures of the Schröder government was a law
breaking for the first time the link between blood and nationality.
The millions from Mediterranean Europe who poured into Germany in the years up to
the early 1970s and supplied the cheap labour for Germany's economic miracle
were officially Gastarbeiter (guest workers).
For decades afterwards politicians sustained the myth that these workers would one
day go home, and insisted that theirs was not a country of immigration.
Those who entered Germany did so by seeking asylum. Even today many who would
be termed immigrants in other countries are described - and treated - as
foreigners in Germany.
Moreover, as a result of Germany's experience with the Gastarbeiter, there was a
widespread perception, as elsewhere in Europe, that immigrants were
overwhelmingly unskilled.
But in 2000 Mr Schröder made a canny bid to change attitudes when he offered
20,000 green cards to computer specialists from developing countries to fill jobs for
which qualified Germans could not be found.
A poll released yesterday showed more people supporting than opposing the bill,
which was approved yesterday by the controversial single vote.

Brown Published 03. 22. 2002 at 23:09 PST xxx The name Sarah Brady has become synonymous with gun control. As chair of Handgun Control Inc., she has been an active combatant in America's cultural war over the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. Her autobiography, A Good Fight, arrives in bookstores this weekend. While it does not rank with the great biographies, it may be of interest to historians and students who wish to understand the personalities involved in the gun control debate. It begins with the tragic wounding of her husband, White House Press Secretary Jim Brady, by a lunatic intent on assassinating President Reagan in 1981. Jim Brady's heroic struggle to survive and recover from a crippling head wound is a recurring theme throughout the book along with the family's efforts to cope with the disaster. Sarah Brady describes her middle-class life before she entered the world of Washington politics. During the mid-1960's she spent two years as a 5th grade teacher in a black neighborhood and she recalls that there was no fear of guns in her school. She did not mention the fact that guns were much more easily available in that era than they are now. In 1968, she began working for a Republican campaign committee in Washington and began her lifelong involvement in politics. Although her husband was a key Reagan team member, her politics would have to be called Republican in name only. She makes several references to her dissatisfaction with Republican positions on many issues and she seems relieved to report her endorsement of Bill Clinton in the 1992 presidential election. Her story includes several interesting vignettes of life among Washington's power elite when her husband was a key member of the Reagan administration. Brady did not feel like she belonged in this rarefied strata of society, but the reader can sense her outrage when an assassin's bullet pierced the royal cocoon of bodyguards and limousines to unfairly cut short the intoxicating experience. The important turning point in her life actually occurred a few years after her husband was injured. She describes an incident where her young, hyperactive son picked up a loaded handgun from the seat of a friend's car. Never having been taught about guns, the youngster began to wave it around like a toy. Upon realizing their narrow escape from disaster, something snaps inside Sarah Brady. A person from a rural area might have decided to teach gun safety classes to families and young people. Brady's background in Washington politics probably explains why she chose to advocate restrictive laws and more government control of society. She instinctively decided to dedicate her life to gun control and soon joined HCI as a spokesperson. She apparently felt right at home. Her choice of words indicates her complete acceptance of the antigun faith. She is always careful to say that people are killed by guns rather than with guns, as if guns are beings with minds of their own. She also reveals her lack of knowledge about guns with statements like: ...Saturday Night Specials, which are used almost exclusively for crime. Brady offers some interesting details about the inner workings of the antigun lobby. She portrays them as terribly overmatched by the giant NRA, but deliberately omits the fact that the elite media was universally supportive of the antigun movement. This resulted in an essentially level playing field, making for some interesting strategies to change public opinion and influence votes in Congress. A perfect example is the brilliantly cynical decision to destroy the friendly relationship that had long existed between the NRA and the law enforcement community. The folks at HCI seized on the completely bogus issue of cop killer bullets which had never killed a cop, but made a perfect political weapon. Law enforcement leaders saw it as an important symbolic issue. The NRA saw serious practical problems with the legislation. It also went against their sense of propriety to support a law that accomplished nothing beyond adding another layer to the growing pile of restrictive laws that were bedeviling honest gun owners. The HCI strategy was a complete success and the rift between the NRA and law enforcement has still not been fully repaired. Brady discusses the Assault Weapon Ban in a way that gives some insight into her thinking. Criminals were never affected by the ban and the firearms industry soon found ways around the law, yet she is still proud of her victory. Apparently what she really cares about is conducting a good fight. The fact that Brady and her husband suffered in such a public way tended to insulate her from some of

They live in North Carolina, often characterized as a bastion of conservative living. Take a few minutes and walk along with me in their shoes. The ones they are wearing right now - today. Learn how their lives are being vandalized at this very minute by our - that's as in yours and my - legal system. This is just another in a flood of CPS nightmare stories washing through American society. The more I write in this area, the angrier I become. Read the rest of this piece. You'll be mad as hell, too - I promise. But, it will be good for you - I promise that, too. These parents' first mistake was in using a leftist (i.e., it takes a village to raise a child) pediatrician who got them into the system. this guy has done it to many others, I guarantee you. Many of those referrals to CPS (called DSS in North Carolina), too, were baseless and ended up in the parents' favor. That doctor does not share the department's immunity. A couple of lawsuits by parents will reign him in pretty quickly. I'm sure there is a local parents' rights group there; they should pursue this sort of thing independently by keeping lists of these doctors and checking them twice. Those parents' rights groups should also cull out the true rogue CPS workers who appear in case after case of truly abusive conduct by the state and help to fund federal Title VII suits against both the departments and those rogue agents; their immunity doesn't stretch to that venue, you see. The second mistake was in letting the first agent in the door without a search warrant. They should have made her stand on the porch, then brought the child to the window and shown it to her. Then they should have called their lawyer and gotten the name of a good CPS lawyer that would come to their house immediately. I'm not sure how draconian North Carolina is, but it sounds about on a par with Colorado and Oregon. If so, then their third mistake was in not, that first night, packing the car and moving out of the state permanently. I'm not kidding about this. No, it is not an overreaction. It is simple self preservation. It is easy to hire a moving company to come in and pack up all your remaining belongings and ship them to you. It is easy to have a real estate agent peddle your house. Jobs are easy to find. So are new friends. It is a literal stake driven into your heart to have your child taken away. The fifth mistake was in not having a CPS- savvy lawyer present at the house for the next encounter. They avoided the fourth mistake of not having another doctor immediately examine and report the child normal, though that seems to have been lost on the judge; doubt that it will be lost on an appellate court, however. If they ever get the kid back, ultimately it will likely be because they had the good sense to do this one thing. Thus far, note how little involvement there really is by a lawyer, who is propped up simply as a scare tactic. Up to this point, this is how parents win their cases.by making sure they don't become casesand, it is the easiest and cheapest way, by far, to win these Attack-of- the-Snatch'n'Sell-Child-Nazi cases. Now, however, the Fasinros are deep in the bowels of the system, with the only way out being to bow, scrape, say Yassuh, mastuh, at every turn and jump through every impossible hoop set out by the system. To do otherwise is to tweak the nose of these impudent bureaucratic nazis, which causes them to mark you for termination of parental rights. Oh, did I forget to mention selling everything you own to pay for the lawyers? Silly me. By the time people realize what's at stake, it is already too late. Problem is, in these custody cases, the state holds all the cards... and they have stacked the deck... and they are dealing from the bottom. Not that they need to, with all those aces stashed up their sleeve. The rules of evidence do not apply. You are forced to deal only with the documents and witnesses the state provides. You have no right to conduct any sort of investigation. You have no right to have your child independently examined, once they seize him or her. A judge sits in sole judgment, without a jury. The proceedings are conducted in secret, away from the public eye. You are literally guilty until proven innocent. Problem is, there is never any way to prove your innocence. Some suspects told of pistol-whippings, bloodied heads and broken noses. Others told of rip-offs, planted drugs and guns held to their heads. One woman said she was raped. But the department's internal affairs investigators and police brass cleared the officers in case after case, even when independent witnesses or physical evidence bolstered the charges and cast doubt on the officers' stories, according to a Herald review of hundreds of department files, court records and dozens of interviews. Even when some were caught lying, officers escaped serious consequences. Instead, Miami police brass applauded them for their aggressiveness in nabbing criminals and handed them choice assignments on hard-charging units such as street narcotics and SWAT, where they became involved in more suspicious shootings, beatings and allegations of wrongdoing. ''Maybe we did a lousy job disciplining these cases,'' said Miami Police Chief Raúl Martinez, acknowledging his department's failures. We have to do a better job putting these cases together.'' The high price of that failure is now coming due. A federal grand jury has issued sweeping indictments, charging the officers with shooting unarmed suspects, and lying and planting guns in a conspiracy to cover up their actions. The shootings resulted in four deaths. Though 14 were indicted, two officers -- John Mervolion and William Hames -- have already pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against their colleagues. Miami taxpayers will pay $3.75 million to settle two of the cases, and more settlements worth millions of dollars are being negotiated in other civil suits. ''A small clique of police officers came into the department in the early 1980s, a criminal element sneaked through and some of them have risen high enough so they can protect each other,'' said H.T. Smith, a community activist and lawyer who has sued the department in other shooting cases. ''They had to be protected at the top,'' he said. Every police chief during that period needs to answer that question, because as far as I'm concerned the blood of some of these people that were killed is on their hands.'' Said Martinez, the police chief: I have seen no evidence of protection, but I certainly understand why people perceive it. Obviously, these officers have lied, and some of them were good at it. Just to give you an idea of what sort of man Crassus really was, he is credited with invention of the fire brigade. But in Crassus' version, his fire-fighting slaves would race to the scene of a burning building whereupon Crassus would offer to buy it on the spot for a tiny fraction of it's worth. Sailing away was the last thing Crassus wanted Sparticus to do. He needed a convenient enemy with which to terrorize Rome itself for his personal political gain. So Crassus bribed the mercenary fleet to sail without Sparticus, then positioned two Roman legions in such a way that Sparticus had no choice but to march on Rome. Terrified of the impending arrival of the much-feared army of gladiators, Rome declared Crassus Praetor. Crassus then crushed Sparticus' army and even though Pompeii took the credit, Crassus was elected Consul of Rome the following year. With this maneuver, the Romans surrendered their Republican form of government. Soon would follow the first Triumvirate, consisting of Crassus, Pompeii, and Julius Caesar, followed by the reign of the god-like Emperors of Rome. The Observer
There are many reasons for the immense adhesiveness of the 007 classics, and one
of these reasons is certainly the loving attention paid to what we now term the
'designer' aspect of culture: the brand name and logo and product-placement
element that, nowadays so pervasive as to be wanting in any sort of style, was quite
a daring refreshment in the post-austerity 1950s.
And, like the famous gadgetry dreamed up for him by Q, Commander Bond was
'designed' in his turn, as a lone hero of 'the West'. Not for Fleming the moral
ambiguities and shady compromises of a Graham Greene or John le Carré agent:
the West was coterminous with the Free World and that was - with a few very
occasional moments of chivalrous doubt - that. Every line that he composed was
either overt or subliminal propaganda for the great contest with communism, and all
of the subordinate themes, from racism to sadism, were ancillary to it.
The novels were written, and sometimes set, in the Caribbean. Indeed, Fleming
annexed the blunt name James Bond from the author of the principal guide to
Caribbean ornithology. He even approached his Jamaican summer-home neighbour,
Sir Noël Coward, to play the part of Dr No in the first Saltzman-Broccoli movie
extravaganza: Coward's icy plea of other business must have been quite something
to behold, as indeed, would have been his rendition of the role.
The West Indian archipelago is important here because it was one of the few regions
of the globe where British imperial pre-eminence still rivalled that of the emergent
United States. Ian Fleming was a 'special- relationship' man by necessity, because of
the imperatives of anti-communism. (During the Second World War, he visited
Washington for British naval intelligence and composed a long memorandum on the
means by which London could help the Americans establish their own secret
agencies.)
But, like many with connections to 'the Service', he was by no means a special-
relationship man from the cultural point of view. Bond reacts with infuriated disgust
when Tatiana Romanova compares his good looks to those of an American film star
('For God's sake. That's the worst insult you can pay a man!') and, in a little-
remembered story entitled 'The Quantum of Solace', is sympathetic to the Cuban
rebels whose cause he has been sent to sabotage.
A compromise is eventually reached by way of Bond's gruff affection for the brash
CIA man, Felix Leiter, but it is generally to be understood that British resolve, pluck
and integrity are worth far more than their equivalent weight in Yankee cash and
technology. (General Vozdvishensky, in the course of the great conference of
conspirators that opens From Russia With Love, is of the same expert opinion.)
Thus, when Bond rescues the ingot-lined vaults of Fort Knox from contamination at
the close of Goldfinger, he is beating the Americans not just at their own game but
on their own turf.
Incidentally, or perhaps coincidentally, the American millionairess who married Lord
Curzon - at the height of matrimonial alliances between such English dynasties as
the Churchills and such American families as the Vanderbilts and Astors - was
named Mary Leiter. It's therefore rather fitting that Sir Anthony Eden should have
taken refuge in Fleming's Jamaican home at Goldeneye, to try to recuperate after
Washington had essentially pulled the plug on British imperialism at Suez in 1956.
Surviving this debacle, Fleming paid another visit to Washington in 1960, met the up-
and-coming presidential nominee John F. Kennedy, and proposed to him various
schemes for the elimination of Fidel Castro. By March 1961, Life magazine was
reporting that From Russia With Love was number nine on the new boy- President's
top 10 list of favourite books.
The staying power of the books, especially of these three classics, is, however, partly
and paradoxically attributable to their departure from standard Cold War imagery.
Bond confronts not just the unsleeping evil of Moscow-directed communism, but also
a metastasised sub-species of monsters in human form who are, in some sense, in
business on their own account. This is the case most obviously with Dr No and Auric
Goldfinger, but it applies also to the psychopathic killer Donovan Grant in From
Russia With Love. He is a twisted former Sinn Feiner who fails all his party exams in
ideological matters and is eventually classified as 'Political value Nil. Operational
value Excellent'. By some latent intuition, Fleming was able to peer beyond the Cold
War limitations of mere spy fiction and to anticipate the emerging milieu of the
Colombian cartels, Osama bin Laden and,

When a social worker came across Meera's unmapped village in the hills of Uttar Pradesh in India three years ago, he found that the entire population was in hereditary debt bondage. It could have been in the time of their grandfathers or great-grandfathers--few in the village could remember- -but at some point in their past, the families had pledged themselves to unpaid labor in return for loans of money. The debt passed down through the generations. Children as young as five years old worked in quarry pits, making sand by crushing stones with hammers. Dust, flying rock chips and heavy loads had left many villagers with silicosis and injured eyes or backs. Calling together some of the women, the social worker proposed a radical plan. If groups of 10 women agreed to set aside a single rupee a week from the tiny sums the moneylenders gave them to buy rice, he would provide seed money and keep the funds safe. Meera and nine others formed the first group. The rupees slowly mounted up. After three months, the group had enough to pay off the loan against which Meera was bonded. She began earning money for her work, which greatly increased the amount she could contribute to the group. In another two months, another woman was freed; the following month, a third came out of bondage. At that point, the other members, seeing that freedom was possible, simply renounced their debts and declared themselves free. The moneylenders quickly moved against them, threatening them and driving them from the quarries. But the women were able to find jobs in other quarries. New groups followed their example. The social worker has taken me to the village twice, and on my second visit, all its inhabitants were free and all their children in school. Less than 100 kilometers away, the land turns flat and fertile. Debt bondage is common there, too. When I met Baldev in 1997, he was plowing. His master called him my halvaha, meaning my bonded plowman. Two years later I met Baldev again and learned that because of a windfall from a relative, he had freed himself from debt. But he had not freed himself from bondage. He told me: After my wife received this money, we paid off our debt and were free to do whatever we wanted. But I was worried all the time--what if one of the children got sick? What if our crop failed? What if the government wanted some money? Since we no longer belonged to the landlord, we didn't get food every day as before. Finally, I went to the landlord and asked him to take me back. I didn't have to borrow any money, but he agreed to let me be his halvaha again. Now I don't worry so much; I know what to do. Lacking any preparation for freedom, Baldev reenrolled in slavery. Without financial or emotional support, his accidental emancipation didn't last. Although he may not bequeath any debt to his children, his family is visibly worse off than unbonded villagers in the same region. To many people, it comes as a surprise that debt bondage and other forms of slavery persist into the 21st century. Every country, after all, has made it illegal to own and exercise total control over another human being. And yet there are people like Baldev who remain enslaved--by my estimate, which is based on a compilation of reports from governments and nongovernmental organizations, perhaps 27 million of them around the world. If slaveholders no longer own slaves in a legal sense, how can they still exercise so much control that freed slaves sometimes deliver themselves back into bondage? This is just one of the puzzles that make slavery the greatest challenge faced by the social sciences today. Despite being among the oldest and most persistent forms of human relationships, found in most societies at one time or another, slavery is little understood. Although historians have built up a sizable literature on antebellum American slavery, other types have barely been studied. It is as if our understanding of all arachnids were based on clues left by a single species of extinct spider. It was designed to be the ULTIMATE BULWARK AGAINST INJUSTICE. The final resolutions of all controversies in law and government in America, no matter how small, are eventually determined by judges. Judges are supposed to enforce the limitations on lawmaking power upon the other two branches as dictated by the Constitution. They do not have the power to make law, but to strike down unconstitutional legislation and edicts of the executive branch. Of the three branches, the judiciary is supposed to be the most impartial and the least political, since its members are not directly elected by the people. SADLY, ALMOST ALL CONSTITUTIONAL SAFEGUARDS AND RESTRAINTS ON JUDICIAL MISCONDUCT ARE NOW DEAD. For decades, until just this year, Federal judges were nominated, unconstitutionally, by the American Bar Association (ABA), an organization controlled by a committee of left-leaning, anti-constitutional attorneys. As of this year, nominations once again publicly come from the President, but the ABA still maintains its control through key allies in the Bush Justice Department. Judges are confirmed by the Senate in a very politicized process as well, also controlled by the ABA. The result is that, regardless of the party in power, the vast majority of judges who are confirmed are strongly liberal. Although a small percentage of judges are conservative, these judges have a reliable track record of taking orders from higher judges when necessary-thus, their conservative leanings are easily overridden. Despite increasing public evidence of judicial misconduct, Congress has refused to invoke the constitutional remedy of impeachment to remove a judge, at least for many, many years. State watchdog agencies remove, on average, only 10 judges a year, compared to the approximately 10,000 cases of alleged abuse reported annually-and most abuse is never even reported. There are two types of corruption with judges: INDIVIDUAL CORRUPTION and SYSTEMATIC, OR INSTITUTIONALIZED, CORRUPTION. The only type you will ever see evidenced in the media is the individual or rogue type of corruption. The Powers That Be want you to believe that the judicial system is above reproach, an honored profession, and that only an isolated judge here and there would be caught taking a personal bribe, or bending the law to protect crime. The same is true regarding the woefully corrupt police system: the establishment only admits to the occasional rogue cop, never to systematic corruption. But strangely, even rogue judges-blight that they are on the sterling reputation of the courts-usually receive only a token slap on the hands, and they almost NEVER SERVE JAIL TIME. This is because the bribe they were caught taking is usually only the tip of the iceberg, if they are part of a broader conspiracy to protect government illegal operations. The PTB in the Justice Department work overtime to make sure the systematic corruption and collusion of these judges is kept hidden so as not to expose the broader and deeper conspiracy for government control-of which judges form an integral part. The judges who do get harsh punishment, sadly, are usually the rare few who obstinately refuse to go along with the systematic corruption of the judicial system, and these are set up in some form of sting operation to remove them for cause. SIGNIFICANTLY, THERE HAVE BEEN ALMOST NO DEFECTORS FROM THE JUDICIAL RANKS WHO HAVE ADMITTED TO THE INSTITUTIONALIZED CORRUPTION IN THE SYSTEM. That's because these judges know exactly what kinds of penalties and threats they would face if they did so. One of the most significant ways in which judges aid and abet the conspiracy within government is to participate in the take down of federal agents and military personnel who get cold feet about illegal activities.
