[CTRL] Pyramid Stuff

2003-11-01 Thread John Miller
-Caveat Lector-

Serious Pyramid Stuff, even though tedious number
crunching.

Black Trinity and Death First to fashion and form
the symbol for spiritual Death, that is the sarcophagus in the Kings Chamber
of the Great Pyramid at 3,000,000 x 3,000,000 x 10 and square root and /Pi and
square root twice is the internal volume of the sarcophagus at 41.68625160 cubic
feet. It was the Egyptologist, Sir Flinders Petrie, who measured the
partly broken granite sarcophagus in the Kings Chamber of the Great Pyramid
with special calipers and gauges using 388 reference points on the outside and
281 points on the inside. And he published the inside measurements as 78.060 x
26.810 x 34.420 inches, which is equivalent to 41.68625161 cubic feet, or
72,033.8427 cubic inches. And I believe that the Ancient Egyptian
designer of the most important sarcophagus ever cut from a single block of
granite knew the number 3 could form and fashion the internal volume of the
sarcophagus, because 3,000,000 squared x 10 and square root and /Pi and square
root twice is 41.68625161 cubic feet. Please note, there are no
inscriptions or adornments on the sarcophagus and there is no lid on the
sarcophagus. And Sir Gardner Wilkinson commented and said, "...and it may be
doubted whether the body of the king was really deposited in the
sarcophagus."The Black Trinity consists of the three demonic frogs which
come from out of the mouths of the Bibles Dragon, Beast and False Prophet, and
frogs symbolized by the fleur de lis. And I saw three unclean spirits
like frogs [come] out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the
beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of
devils, working miracles, [which] go forth unto the kings of the earth and of
the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty
And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue
Armageddon. Book of Revelations 16:13-16The reference number for the
Dragon is 322 + the Beasts 933 + the False Prophets 515 is 1,770 or three
frogs at 590 each. And the cycle of the Moon in the Underworld is 354 days or 6
x 59 days, and so the Moon, the Bibles symbol for the Ruler of Darkness shows 6
frogs per one cycle, and one frog at 59 is the number reference for the
Pharaohs insignia of the serpent goddess of Delta Egypt at 17 + the vulture
goddess of Upper Egypt at 42. Thus the Pharaohs insignia represents the Ruler
of Darkness. And Darkness is seen in the speed of gravity (the grave) at 177,000
miles per second. Thus the Black Trinity, or thrice the Frog is represented by
the speed of gravity, the Moon, and even the Knight Templars who used the number
59. OK, now the platform area of the Great Pyramid, the worlds First
Wonder of the World and the worlds symbol of human death. And the most
significant measurement for the Great Pyramid is its foundation area, its
platform at 440 x 440 Ancient Egyptian cubits and equivalent to some 755.77350 x
755.77350 feet. And the area of the platform can be formed and fashioned out of
the sarcophagus x gravity speed. For the cube root of the internal
volume of the sarcophagus at 41.6862516 cubic feet is as 3.4673494 seconds x
gravity at 177,000 miles per second is 613,720.85518 miles of gravity.
And 3.0e+3246 squared x 10 and square root and /Pi and square root
twice is 4.16862516091e+811 (the sarcophagus number) and cube root x 177,000
miles per second is 6.13720855180e+275 miles and squared x 10 and squared thrice
x 4 is 1.620295014870e+4421 and square root 9 times and cube root is the mean
width of the four base sides of the Great Pyramid at 755.773504 feet or
9069.2820 inches or 440 cubits of 20.6120046 inches. As I said, the
internal volume of the sarcophagus x the Black Trinity, the thrice Frog at
177,000 which is gravity speed, forms and fashions the platform area of the
Great Pyramid, the 'Platform of Death'. So the Skeptics need to do a bit
more fine tuning in their understanding of Ancient Egypt.
Phew!John D. MillerPSAnd not forgetting
that:Satan came as an angel of light. The velocity of light in
a vacuum is some 186,282.4604 miles per second (299,792.56kms). The full
volume of the sarcophagus is made up of the internal volume of the sarcophagus
at 41.6862516 cubic feet + the granite frame of 40.80 cubic feet (17 x 2.4) at
82.4862516 cubic feet (89.620 x 38.50 x 41.310 inches). And as I did
with the internal volume, I cube root the full volume of 82.4862516 cubic feet
is 4.3530520 as seconds in time x 186,282.4604 miles per second and squared 10
times and /2 and square root twice is seen internal volume of the sarcophagus at
4.16862516e+1512.So the measurement for internal volume of the
sarcophagus in the Kings Chamber of the Great Pyramid (which is of the number
3) can form and fashion itself into the cube root of its full volume x the
velocity of light in a vacuum. So Satan, who is

[CTRL] The New Marianne

2003-11-01 Thread John Miller
-Caveat Lector-

The Rose Moon Window Marianne

Marianne is present everywhere in France and holds a place of honor in town
halls and law courts. She symbolizes the Triumph of the Republic, a bronze
sculpture overlooking Place de la Nation in Paris. Her profile stands out on
the official seal of the country. It is engraved on coins and drawn on
stamps and banknotes. Marianne is considered as the most prominent depiction
of the French Republic.

Why a woman and not a man who represents the Republic? A recent discovery
has established that the first mention of the name of Marianne to
designate the Republic appeared in October 1792. At that time the account
made of their exploits by the Revolutionaries often contained a reference to
a certain Marianne wearing a Phrygian cap (or Marie-Anne, a popular name in
the French countryside then). The name of Marianne also appears to be
connected with several Republican secret societies. And so the French
Tri-color of blue-white-red, which represents Libert-Egalit-Fraternit,
the Republic are One and the person Marianne, are the words that established
Republic of France.

A French talk-show host called Evelyne Thomas has been chosen as the next
Marianne, the symbol of the Republic. She is has a degree in constitutional
law and she was elected as the face of modern France by the 400 mayors who
make up the Golden Marianne club on November 29th 2003.

OK, the number reference for Marianne from a number crunchers point of view
is 127 for the female spirit I call the feman in all human women compared
to the man spirit at 126 in all male humans, a spirit that is given
liberty at death to go down, and some up.

Not forgetting that in the late 19th century, the official metric meter was
given as 2.54cm per inch, or twice Marianne at 1.27 + 1.27 the reference
number for Sarah, Abrahams wife, the mother of kings. And 127 x 4 is 508,
the reference I say is that of the Devil.

Now given to Marianne is a black robe of Darkness, thanks to the 18th
century secret society that is the number 177, the Black Trinity, (the
Biblical Dragon, Beast and False Prophet) the thrice French Frog.

And Marianne at 1.27 x 1.77 and cubed twice is 1,465.523 and 14,655,238.4
square miles is the area of the Moon at a diameter of 2159.83963 miles
(3,476km). Thus Marianne clothed in Gravity that is Darkness, that is the
Moon in the Underworld, reveals the area of the Moon above the Earth.

Yet Marianne is found in the most famous Gothic Rose Window in the world,
the Rose Window of the French Chartres Cathedral, at some 43.8932 feet
(13.36m) in diameter.
The Rose Window comes out of the side of the Great Pyramid at 440 cubits, in
that 4.4000e+11 x Pi thrice and square root thrice is 43.8932 feet. (Thanks
to the influence of the Bernard of Clairvaux, friend of the Knights Templar,
the thrice French Frog at 59 x 3).

And the eagle at 44 x Pi 4 times is 4,286.05. And so the Rose Window is
formed and fashioned out of the eagles wings of the base area of the symbol
of Death the Great Pyramid. And so Marianne at Liberty 1,270 + Equality
1,270 + Brotherhood 1,270 when dressed for war, that is wearing the helm
which symbolized falcons mask of the Ancient Egyptian god Horus + 61 +
61and robed in Black Trinity (the Frog) that of the grave, at 177 + 177 is
4,286 and /Pi 4 times is 44, that of the foundation of Death.

And the foundation of Death at 440 reveals the Rose Window of Marianne, her
of the Moon.

Clever those French.

Received at Portside

Arsonist Burns Peace Activists' Home

By Matthew Rothschild
Editor, The Progressive

Cindy Hunter and her husband, Sam Nickels, opposed
Bush's war against Iraq. For the last seven months,
we've been putting up a sign on our property, says
Hunter, a professor of social work at James Madison
University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

At first, the sign expressed the hope that the war could
be avoided. Then, says Hunter, they changed the sign to
list the number of casualties, which they periodically
updated, and sometimes to list the number of weapons of
mass destruction found, which was always zero.

Hunter says the signs provoked a lot of good dialogue.
But that's not all. People would come by at night every
few weeks or so and break our sign up, she says. And
one time last spring we had eggs tossed against our
house, which is a few blocks from campus.

To spare the sign, they decided to bring it up on their
porch. About two months ago, I attached it to a wood
column on the porch, thinking it might be less offensive
and more out of the way. I calculated badly on that
one, says Nickels, who teaches Spanish in a local
middle school.

Nickels says the final sign they had on their porch
read:

8,109 Iraqi civilians.

6,000-plus U.S. wounded.

345 U.S. and British soldiers.

At 4:50 a.m. on October 20, Hunter and Nickels were
asleep. So were their three children, ages 7, 8, and 11.
And so was Adama Sow, a 30-year-old refugee from
Mauritania, who was living upstairs. Our smoke alarm
went off, and my husband I got out of bed and saw smoke
and got the kids out and our roommate out, Hunter says.
It was immediately clear to me that the sign had burned
because the only fire you could see was on the right
front of the house where the sign used to be.

The fire department, from the very beginning,
investigated it as a case of arson. The sign had
somewhat of a political message on it, Harrisonburg
Fire Chief Larry Shifflett told the Daily News-Record.

It appears somebody may have set that sign on fire.
The fire department has since confirmed this hunch. We
have ruled out the accidental causes of the fire, says
Arthur Miller, a captain with the fire department. We
have determined that the sign was intentionally set on
fire, and that the fire spread to the living quarters of
the house.

Hunter says the fire cost about $50,000 in damage. The
whole upstairs of our house was charred, and the firemen
made a hole in the roof.

The family won't be able to return for six months, says
Hunter. We lost the kinds of things you carry with you
your whole life: papers you wrote in school, or clothes
my mom saved for me and I've saved for my
grandchildren, says Hunter. But she's just grateful her
family and roommate got out safely.

The reaction from the campus and the Harrisonburg
community has been fantastic, Hunter says. On the
evening after the fire, 70 or 80 people came to our
house and held a candlelight vigil to support us and to
express the outrage that someone would burn our house
and put our lives in danger for a political sign, she
says. Residents have also offered material support to
the family, as well. Students have collected gift
certificates, many local restaurants have donated meals,
and storage facilities have offered us free space, she
says.

On October 22, the Daily News-Record, which is a
conservative paper, wrote a strong editorial entitled
Arson Assault. It said: The arson at the home of an
anti-war Harrisonburg couple was outrageous and must be
condemned not only by those who believe in the First
Amendment, but also by all those who believe in decency
and humanity. The harassment of the Harrisonburg couple
was appalling. . . . Violence and vandalism used to
intimidate are not only criminal and cowardly, but
profoundly un-American.

One, two, three, what are they fighting for?

By Robert Fisk

The worst problem facing US forces in Iraq may not be
armed resistance but a crisis of morale. Robert Fisk
reports on a near- epidemic of indiscipline, suicides
and loose talk

I was in the police station in the town of Fallujah when
I realised the extent of the schizophrenia. Captain
Christopher Cirino of the 82nd Airborne was trying to
explain to me the nature of the attacks so regularly
carried out against American forces in the Sunni Muslim
Iraqi town. His men were billeted in a former
presidential rest home down the road - Dreamland, the
Americans call it - but this was not the extent of his
soldiers' disorientation. The men we are being attacked
by, he said, are Syrian-trained terrorists and local
freedom fighters. Come again? Freedom fighters. But
that's what Captain Cirino called them - and rightly so.

Here's the reason. American soldiers are supposed to
believe - indeed have to believe, along with their
President and his Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld -
that Osama bin Laden's al-Qa'ida guerrillas, pouring
over Iraq's borders from Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia (note
how those close allies and neighbours of Iraq, Kuwait
and Turkey are always left out of the equation), are
assaulting United States forces as part of the war on
terror. Special forces soldiers are now being told by
their officers that the war on terror has been
transferred from America to Iraq, as if in some
miraculous way, 11 September 2001 is now Iraq 2003. Note
too how the Americans always leave the Iraqis out of the
culpability bracket - unless they can be described as
Baath party remnants, diehards or deadenders by
the US proconsul, Paul Bremer.

Captain Cirino's problem, of course, is that he knows
part of the truth. Ordinary Iraqis - many of them long-
term enemies of Saddam Hussein - are attacking the
American occupation army 35 times a day in the Baghdad
area alone. And Captain Cirino works in Fallujah's local
police station, where America's newly hired Iraqi
policemen are the brothers and uncles and - no doubt -
fathers of some of those now waging guerrilla war
against American soldiers in Fallujah. Some of them, I
suspect, are indeed themselves the terrorists. So if
he calls the bad guys terrorists, the local cops - his
first line of defence - would be very angry indeed.

No wonder morale is low. No wonder the American soldiers
I meet on the streets of Baghdad and other Iraqi cities
don't mince their words about their own government. US
troops have been given orders not to bad-mouth their
President or Secretary of Defence in front of Iraqis or
reporters (who have about the same status in the eyes of
the occupation authorities). But when I suggested to a
group of US military police near Abu Ghurayb they would
be voting Republican at the next election, they fell
about laughing. We shouldn't be here and we should
never have been sent here, one of them told me with
astonishing candour. And maybe you can tell me: why
were we sent here?

Little wonder, then, that Stars and Stripes, the
American military's own newspaper, reported this month
that one third of the soldiers in Iraq suffered from low
morale. And is it any wonder, that being the case, that
US forces in Iraq are shooting down the innocent,

U.S. bars torture settlement, to ex-POWs' dismay

The Bush administration is quietly piling up victories in a legal
battle to block payments to 17 U.S. combat veterans who were captured
and tortured in the first Gulf War and won a suit against Iraq for
nearly a billion dollars.

President Bush told United Nations delegates a year ago that "our
greatest fear is that terrorists will find a shortcut to their mad
ambitions, when an outlaw regime supplies them with the technologies to
  kill on a massive scale."
What "technologies" did Bush have in mind?
  Nukes, of course.
What "outlaw regime" did Bush have in mind?
Well, last year, it was Iraq.
Bush claimed Iraq had secretly reconstituted its nuke programs and
would soon have enough highly enriched uranium to make a nuke or two. Bush
demanded that Iraq grant the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency
immediate and unfettered access to all "suspect" sites.
To the consternation of the neo-crazies – who expected Iraq to refuse
and thus provide a casus belli – Iraq promptly granted the IAEA
  such access.
Iraq insisted it had nothing to hide, that it hadn't even attempted to
reconstitute any of its nuke-related programs. The IAEA searched all the
"suspect" sites and many more, and reported to the U.N. Security Council
in mid-March that the Bush allegations were wrong.
Nevertheless, after declaring that it was the IAEA that was wrong – and
incompetent, irrelevant and immaterial to boot – we invaded Iraq.
Guess what? It was the CIA that was wrong. The Iraqis had no "weapons
  of mass destruction."
Importantly, what the IAEA reported to the Security Council was the
truth. The IAEA is not incompetent, irrelevant and immaterial, after all.
Why is that important? Well, look what just happened this month to
  another "outlaw regime," Iran.
Neo-crazies had claimed Iran was secretly producing highly enriched
uranium and would soon have enough to make a nuke or two. They loudly
demanded that Iran grant the IAEA immediate and unfettered access to all
  "suspect" sites.
Again, to the consternation of the neo-crazies – who expected Iran to
refuse and thus provide a casus belli – Iran promptly granted the
IAEA such access. Iran insisted it had nothing to hide and that all
activities were consistent with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
Furthermore, to the horror of the neo-crazies, representatives of the
European Union rushed to Tehran to assure them – and declare to the world
  – that in the event the IAEA did give Iran a "clean bill of health," then
Iran would not suffer the fate of Iraq.
The EU also promised the Iranians that if they subjected themselves to
an additional protocol to their IAEA Safeguards Agreement, Russia and EU
members would provide Iran access to a wide range of technologies and
  products, including conventional weapons.
  Curses! Neo-crazies foiled again!
Not only was there to be no Iranian casus belli, but sanctions
on Iran – which had been unilaterally levied by the United States more
than 25 years earlier – were to be essentially ignored in the future. In
particular, construction by Russia of the nuclear power plants at Bushehr
  would continue.
Worse, the already strong ties between Iran and its neighbor, Russia –
both already among the top producers and marketers of oil and natural gas
  – were strengthened.
Chalk up these perverse results in the war against terrorism – or the
establishment of an American hegemony over Persian Gulf oil – to the
hijacking of U.S. foreign policy by neo-crazies in the Pentagon. No need
for a superpower to practice diplomacy or have diplomats; if you see
something you want, just smash and grab.
So, denied a justification for Persian "regime change," what were the
neo-crazies to do with their Persian Gulf legions?
Well, how about Syria, another "outlaw" regime?
Sure. Have the CIA insist that Iraqi WMD had been right where the CIA
said they were, right up to the eve of the invasion.
Then, have the inarticulate CIA weenie in charge of spy-satellite
photography come forward and claim that recent analysis of photos taken on
the eve of Operation Iraqi Freedom showed a lot of truck traffic.
"Based on what we saw prior to the onset of hostilities, we certainly
felt there were indications of [weapons of

[CTRL] Law Enforcement Information-Sharing Network Rapidly Expanding Using Next-Generation Analytical Technologies

2003-11-01 Thread Sean McBride
-Caveat Lector-

http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=SVBIZINK3.storySTORY=/www/story/10-31-2003/0002048678EDATE=FRI+Oct+31+2003,+09:39+AM

Law Enforcement Information-Sharing Network Rapidly
Expanding Using Next-Generation Analytical Technologies POOLESVILLE, Md., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Visual Analytics, Inc. (VAI)
recently announced the successful deployment of the Digital Information
Gateway (DIG) server-to-multi-server capability to enable law enforcement and
homeland defense information-sharing networks. Since the announcement last
week, additional participants have joined in -- building rapidly on the
success of the recent live demonstration at the International Association of
Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference in Philadelphia, PA.
The New Jersey High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) and Data
Mining for Law Enforcement (DMLE) have joined the Philadelphia/Camden HIDTA
and the Washington-Baltimore HIDTA in using Visual Analytics' DIG and
specialized data mining and online data services. The project is in
cooperation with the University of Maryland, National Institutes of Justice,
University of West Virginia, and the West Virginia State Police.
Uniquely, the New Jersey, Philadelphia/Camden, and Washington-Baltimore
HIDTAs and DMLE can now access, retrieve, analyze, and collaborate on
information from a "Collective Knowledge Base" that includes distributed
databases, documents, and web sites simultaneously -- enabling proactive
analysis for these safety and law enforcement agencies.
Unlike other approaches, which require a centralized data warehouse where
all information must be sent, the server to multi-server (S2MS) approach
employed by DIG provides a secure, more powerful, maintainable, and cost-
effective method for sharing data without the need for supercomputers,
recurring costs, or extensive infrastructure expansion. Using DIG,
information is always up-to-date, accounting logs can be locally checked, and
access granted/denied on a moment's notice. Privacy concerns are virtually
eliminated because all control remains with the agency. Furthermore,
depending on the needs of the agency, the DIG system can be configured to
return the actual data or a pointer-index for positive query results that
keeps the actual data secure and hidden while providing a reference to
initiate follow-up requests.
The number one priority of the Department of Justice and Homeland Defense
is effective and secure information-sharing between federal, state, and local
agencies. DIG effectively addresses the need by enabling network-centric
collaboration and analyses where federal, state, and local law enforcement and
public safety providers become information nodes on a network. This
architecture allows for local ownership and control of data, provides more
timely and current information to end users, and is cost-effective.
Bennett McPhatter, COO of VAI, comments, "VAI is seeing rapid acceptance
and implementation of DIG server-to-multi-server capabilities because it
directly meets the needs of federal, state, and local law enforcement and
homeland defense for information sharing. VAI will continue to execute and
deliver robust capabilities as more members join and the network grows and
becomes a blueprint for data sharing solutions."
DIG is part of the "Data Clarity" suite of analytical tools from Visual
Analytics that offers a full spectrum of features for searching, analyzing,
sharing, and reporting. VAI's technology is commercially available and can be
provided at discount to qualified law enforcement agencies.

About Visual Analytics
Founded in 1998, Visual Analytics, Inc. (VAI) is a privately-held,
veteran-owned company based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area focused on

wide-range of markets dealing with complex issues that need advanced data
analyses and data mining. VAI has created a suite of advanced tools called
Data Clarity, including VisuaLinks(R) and Digital Information Gateway

Noam Chomsky: Bush needs to manufacture fear for re-election
By Anthony Boadle, Reuters (Link to Indian Express)

HAVANA, October 30 US linguist and political dissident Noam Chomsky said
on Tuesday that President George W. Bush will have to ''manufacture''
another threat to American security to win reelection in 2004 after the
US failure in occupying Iraq.

Chomsky, attending a Latin American social sciences conference in Cuba,
said that since the September 11 attacks on the United States, the Bush
administration had redefined US national security policy to include the
use of force abroad, with or without UN approval.

''It is a frightened country and it is easy to conjure up an imminent
threat,'' Chomsky said at the launching of a Cuban edition of a book of
interviews published by the Mexican newspaper La Jornada, when asked how
Bush could get reelected.

''They have a card that they can play ... terrify the population with
some invented threat, and that is not very hard to do,'' he said.

After the ''disaster'' of the US invasion of Iraq, Bush could turn his
sights on Communist-run Cuba, which his administration officials have
charged with developing a biological weapons research programme, the
Massachusetts IT Professor of Linguistics said.

Chomsky said the military occupation of Iraq, to topple a ''horrible
monster running it but not a threat to anyone'', was a failure.

''The country had been devastated by sanctions. The invasion ended
sanctions. The tyrant is gone and there is no outside support for
domestic dissidence,'' he said. ''It takes real talent to fail in this
endeavour.''

Chomsky said it was reasonable to assume the Bush administration would
try to ''manufacture a short-term improvement in the economy'' by
incurring in enormous federal government debt and ''imposing burdens on
future generations''.

Let us commend you on your page 8 heading in bold print. FUN FUCKING FUN
and the sub-heading was Taking Back Sunday steals the show at Croatian
Cultural Centre gig. This generation of students SHOULD examine society's
code of totem and taboo as did a CBC TV show on censorship this week.

What is it which makes verbiage taboo or non-taboo? Would FUN
MOTHERFUCKING FUN be more taboo than FUN FUCKING FUN? What about FUN
COCKSUCKING FUN? Under the Mulroney Government, Multicultural Minister
Jerry Wiener issued a book on Goodspeak, Badspeak and Nospeak in Canada.
Long ago, when Jerry was just a little Wiener, Canada did not seem to need
such a book. Maybe UBYSSEY can go on with this theme and update the Wiener
Book. Let us talk about what we are not supposed to talk about so that we
can be law abiding, if not lie abiding, citizens.

Zukkie, I've been a free speech advocate practically my whole life. I need
not prove myself to you. Where are you now that someone else is losing their

Don't be absurd. That sounds rather like what you're suggesting,
however, or maybe something more like sour grapes. I think a more
honorable course of action, if your group or one you agree with is
prevented from speaking, would be to work harder to see that everyone
can speak freely, including people you disagree with, otherwise you're
just a hypocrite when you talk about free speech. Of course there are
hypocrites on both sides of issues who only scream free speech when it
 concerns them. Don't be one.

UK police open Calvi murder inquiry Sally Bolton and agencies 9/30/03 "Police in Britain today opened a murder inquiry into the death of Roberto Calvi, a Mafia-linked Italian banker whose body was found hanging beneath a London bridge in 1982.The mysterious death of the Milanese financier, who was nicknamed "God's banker" because of his connections to the Vatican, has been a pet subject of conspiracy theorists for more than 20 years. Although the first inquest into Calvi's death returned a verdict of suicide, his family have long claimed that he was murdered. This theory was confirmed by a recent Italian investigation which, in July this year, issued its final report into the circumstances of his death. Calvi was found dead in June 1982, hanging beneath Blackfriars Bridge. The discovery came just days after Banco Ambrosiano, a Vatican-based bank of which he was president, collapsed with debts of $1.3bn (£0.8bn). However, Calvi's business connections reveal motives for murder. The Banco Ambrosiano had dealt not only with the Cosa Nostra, but also with the Vatican's financial arm, the Institute for the Works of Religion, and P2, a highly influential but illegal Masonic lodge of which Calvi was a member. In October last year, Rome prosecutors, who had been investigating the case since 1998, announced the results of forensic tests on Calvi's exhumed remains. The results showed it was most likely that he had been strung up from underneath the bridge by his killers. Calvi's pockets were weighed down with bricks and stone, suggesting a Masonic connection. Blackfriars, or Fratelli Neri, is the nickname for the Italian Freemasons, who swear that those who betray the brotherhood will be weighed down with stones and drowned. But in December 2002, a Mafia supergrass told police that Calvi had been murdered by the mob for stealing funds they had handed to him to launder. The supergrass accused a convicted Mafioso, Pippo Calo, of ordering the hit. The Italian inquiry agreed, announcing in July that it believed Calvi had been killed by mobsters who had made his murder look like a Masonic ritual." http://www.guardian.co.uk/italy/story/0,12576,1052788,00.html

He added during cross-examination by London lawyer Gordon Cudmore the decision to ordain someone to the priesthood is one of the most awesome responsibilities a bishop has. Sherlock was testifying at the civil trial in which John, Ed and Guy Swales and their family are suing Glendinning and the Roman Catholic diocese of London for damages they say resulted from sexual abuse by Glendinning while he was a teacher at St. Peter's Seminary in London in the late 1960s and early 1970s." http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/LondonFreePress/News/2003/10/30/241355.html

"The case is the latest in a series that have beset this coastal town of 11,000, 32 miles south of Boston. In 1989, a 13-year-old girl, Melissa Benoit, was raped and murdered here. Two years ago, a college student from Kingston, Jonathan Rizzo, was slain in a series of murders by Gary Sampson, who is now awaiting sentencing. Last year, a Kingston priest, Monsignor Frederick J. Ryan, resigned amid allegations that he had molested three teenage boys 20 years ago. And over the last 14 years, four Kingston police officers have been accused of sex crimes. Just four weeks ago, Selectman Richard Cretinon was charged by Plymouth police with raping a 14-year-old boy." http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2003/10/31/kingston_faces_another_abuse_case/

Bush falls from favor abroad, too

By Jim Lobe

WASHINGTON - If United States President George W Bush
was surprised on his recent trip to Indonesia by the
negative image the country's Muslim leaders had of his
administration, he is unlikely to be reassured by two
new surveys from Latin America and Europe.

Nearly 90 percent of more than 500 elite figures in six
Latin American countries polled by the University of
Miami School of Business and Zogby International gave
Bush a negative rating. Fifty percent of respondents
gave his performance the lowest possible rating: poor.

Bush's highest negatives were found in the region's
traditional powerhouses: Brazil (98 percent), Argentina
(93 percent) and Mexico (92 percent), according to the
survey.

A second poll carried out by Eurobarometer for the
European Commission of all 15 European Union (EU)
countries found that more than two-thirds of citizens
saw the US-led war in Iraq as not justified.

Only 6 percent of the 7,515 people polled said that they
believe Washington should be in charge of security in
Iraq, while 43 percent agreed the job should be given to
the United Nations.

Even in Baghdad itself, pollsters found skepticism about
US intentions running high, according to a new Gallup
poll of the Iraqi capital.

Only 4 percent of respondents there said they accepted
Washington's main stated reason for going to war - to
eliminate weapons of mass destruction. More than four in
10 said that they believed the principal objective was
to secure Iraq's oil reserves.

The three polls come amid continuing erosion in Bush's
poll standings at home, where his approval ratings for
the past several weeks have fallen below where they
stood before September 11, 2001.

Worse for Bush, a new poll released on Tuesday by USA
Today, CNN and Gallup found that 57 percent of political
independents who are likely to decide next year's
election now disapprove of his performance in Iraq, and
that only 35 percent of independent voters say they
intend to vote for Bush.

Rising casualties in Iraq, where US servicemen have been
killed at an average rate of one a day for the last two
weeks, are fueling the perception by a majority of
voters that the administration lacks a plan for
achieving its goals there.

Violence - including a rocket attack on a central
Baghdad hotel that housed senior US civilian and
military officials and four suicide car-bombings - over
the past three days is likely to have further eroded
public confidence in the administration's strategy.

But if Bush's popularity has plummeted at home, his
standing abroad is much worse. Last June, a month after
he announced the end to major hostilities in Iraq, the
Pew Global Attitudes Project found that strong
majorities in Washington's chief North Atlantic Treaty
Organization allies supported a more independent
relationship with the US in both diplomatic and security
matters.

The same poll, which measured attitudes towards the US
in eight predominantly Islamic countries - from Nigeria
in the west to Indonesia in the east - found that the
bottom has fallen out of support for America in most of
the Muslim world.

In Indonesia, where Bush met Islamic leaders on his
recent Asia tour, only 15 percent of respondents
expressed favorable opinions for the US, a steep decline
from 61 percent who did so just last summer.

The same survey found US favorability ratings in Turkey
also at 15 percent, in Pakistan at 13 percent and at
only 1 percent in the Palestinian territories occupied
by Israel and in Jordan, a staunch US ally.

The same survey found a rapidly growing percentage of
people throughout the Muslim world who see the US as a
serious threat to Islam, a notion that apparently was
echoed in Bush's meeting in Bali, after which the
president was reported to

REGARDING MEDIA

Miles from 'fair and balanced'

By Tim Rutten

A veteran producer this week alleged that Fox News
executives issue a daily memorandum to staff on news
coverage to bend the network's reporting into
conformity with management's political views,
refocusing attention on the partisan bias of America's
most watched cable news operation.

The charges by Charlie Reina, 55, whose six-year tenure
at Fox ended April 9, first surfaced Wednesday in a
letter he posted on an influential Web site
(www.poynter.org/column)maintained by Jim Romenesko for
the Poynter Institute, an organization that promotes
journalistic education and ethics.

Concerns about Fox, which styles its news coverage as
fair and balanced, begin with its owner, Australian-
born Rupert Murdoch. The corporate boards and family
investors who control most of the American news media
generally feel obliged to maintain a wall of separation
between news and editorial opinion. Murdoch, by
contrast, operates in the style of the traditional
Fleet Street proprietors, who dismiss such distinctions
as inconvenient fictions.

And as a deeply conservative man, he is willing to put
his money where his politics are: Murdoch, a
naturalized U.S. citizen, subsidizes publication of the
Weekly Standard, one of the country's most influential
right-wing journals. According to a forthcoming book by
the New Yorker's Ken Auletta, he loses as much as $40
million a year maintaining the New York Post as an
outlet of conservatism in Manhattan.

As Fox's founding president, he hired Roger Ailes, a
shrewd Republican political operative who earned a
well-founded reputation for bare-knuckle campaigning
while working for Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. As
one of the architects of the elder George Bush's media
strategy in his campaign for president against
Democratic rival Michael Dukakis, Ailes helped devise
the notorious Willie Horton commercials. As he told
Time magazine in August 1988, The only question is
whether we depict Willie Horton with a knife in his
hand or without it.

The late Lee Atwater, another Bush aide, described
Ailes as having two speeds - attack and destroy.
Before joining Fox, where he serves now as chairman,
Ailes produced Rush Limbaugh's short-lived television
talk show.

According to Reina's letter, Daily life at [Fox] is
all about management politics.Editorially, the FNC
newsroom is under the constant control and vigilance of
management. The pressure ranges from subtle to direct.
First, it's a news network run by one of the most high-
profile political operatives of recent times. Everyone
there understands that [Fox] is, to a large extent,
'Roger's Revenge' against what he considers a liberal,
pro-Democrat media establishment that has shunned him
for decades. For the staffers, many of whom are too
young to have come up through the ranks of objective
journalism, and all of whom are nonunion, with no
protections regarding what they can be made to do,
there is undue motivation to please the big boss.

Fox News spokesman Rob Zimmerman told The Times that
these accusations are the rantings of a bitter,
disgruntled former employee. It's unfortunate that
Charlie's career ended the way it did, but we wish him
well. Asked whether Reina's quotations from the memos
were inaccurate or taken out of context, Zimmerman
said, All we are saying is that these are false
accusations. The Times' request to speak with Ailes
was denied: Roger is not addressing this and is not
available, Zimmerman said.

Reina, who told The Times he left Fox in a dispute over
salary and workload - not politics - hardly comes
across as a knee-jerk liberal. He is at pains, for
example, to say that he believes his former employer's
cable rivals - CNN and MSNBC - also air news reports
riven with bias on

There are few things Americans love better than a conspiracy theory.

JFK, Marilyn Monroe, Watergate, alien abductions - where would cable television and Hollywood be without these supposed cover-ups. Or Broadway and the nation's bookstores, for that matter?

Dozens of films, TV miniseries and plays and thousands of books deal with one cover-up or another. Scottsdale author Dean Vesic, whose tome on the Kennedy assassination, Nov. 22, 1963: The Day America Changed Forever, comes out next spring, estimates that "95 percent of all Americans believe they're being lied to about something."

Seem hard to believe? Go to Google.com and type in "conspiracy theories." Just a click away are more than 350,000 Web pages guaranteed to titillate your paranoia. Narrow the search to "Kennedy conspiracy theories," and you'll get something of a break. Only 34,400 pages.

Vesic is right. Lives are spent worrying about this stuff.

One of those worriers is Lynette, the main character in Keith Reddin's new play, Frame 312, which Actors Theatre is staging at the Herberger Theater Center in advance of its New York première and just in time for the 40th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination.

She knows something about Kennedy's death. As her family gathers to celebrate her birthday more than three decades after the assassination, she debates whether she should tell the world.

Lynette is a former assistant editor at Life magazine. In the days immediately after the president's death, she was an unwilling witness at the first screening of the infamous Abraham Zapruder film, a strip of celluloid that allegedly proved the existence of a second assassin.

Time-Life, the magazine's parent company, purchased exclusive rights to the film on the morning after the assassination. When the government demanded that the company turn over the original negative, the publishers complied, appointing Lynette to take the film to Washington.

Up to this point, Reddin's play is a slice of reality. There was an assistant. She did deliver the Zapruder film to the government. From there, Reddin's artistic license takes charge. Lynette delivers a copy of the film, not the original.

That leaves Frame 312 in her possession, the snip of film that seems to show a second bullet striking Kennedy and located a frame ahead of the more famous Frame 313, which shows the president's head exploding. It also leaves a lot of other frames, some of which were edited out of the "official" version of the Zapruder clip when it was released by the Warren Commission.

If there was a second assassin, as many believe after viewing the Zapruder footage, who was it? Did the killer(s) work for big business, the Mafia, a rogue military clique or a drug cabal? Will the perpetuators, who believe they've gotten away with murder, let Lynette tell what she knows? Will the government, guilty of altering the truth, stand idly by?

Reddin is no stranger to cover-ups, conspiracies and paranoia. He has written works on the Bay of Pigs invasion, missile personnel during the Cold World and California's vicious Senate race between Richard Nixon and Helen Gahagen Douglas in 1950.

Reddin says he was inspired to write Frame 312 after meeting the former assistant who had carried the Zapruder film to Washington in her handbag and personally delivered it to J. Edgar Hoover.

"She told me how, on the morning

It is Bush who has challenged the fundamental doctrine of the
separation of powers and made a bid for executive supremacy; Bush who
has usurped the war-making powers confided by the Constitution to the
Congress; Bush who has denied to the Senate information it needs -- -
and to which it is constitutionally entitled for the conduct of
foreign relations; Bush who has substituted Executive Agreements for
Treaties, thus circumventing the requirement of Senatorial
ratification; Bush who covers much of domestic and of foreign policy
with the mantle of secrecy; Bush who has systematically corrupted the
electoral processes, thus betraying democracy itself; Bush who has
challenged the legislative power over the purse -- - thus challenging
principles and practices with three hundred years of authority behind
them; Bush who has flouted the guarantees of the Bill of Rights in a
dozen areas...

If we are to save the constitutional system, the Bill of Rights, the
Republic itself, we must be everlastingly vigilant against the
treasons of Mr. Bush.

In the above call for presidential impeachment, I have substituted
Bush where Nixon appeared in the original. The commentary by Henry
Steele Commager was originally published thirty years ago, on Oct. 30,
1973.

[CTRL] Now Richard Perle is Upset with Switzerland

2003-11-01 Thread Sean McBride
Title: Untitled
-Caveat Lector-

This comes directly afterPerle's
recent blast at Russia in defense of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the wealthiest
oligarch in that nation.

Is there any nation besides Israel that
Richard Perle hasn't fulminated against during the last few years? He
appears to be angry with the entire world, and determined to punish and destroy
anyone who disagrees with him and his Likud comrades in the Israeli
government.

This would not be an especially important
matter except for one point: Perle and his friends are in charge of the
Bush administration. This is the group which has been most responsible for
promoting the Iraq War and ruining America's relations with the rest of the
world.

(Why does one have to turn to the foreign
press to read stories of this kind? Why aren't the American big media
covering this kind of story thoroughly and prominently? They give the
impression that they are trying to protect Perle from his own
extremism.)

   Headline:
Unofficial Mideast peace initiative a "bad idea": Pentagon advisor --
  Detail Story

GENEVA: A senior
Pentagon advisor dismissed on Thursday as a "very bad idea" an unofficial
Middle East peace plan launched by a group of Israeli and Palestinian
politicians. The so-called "Geneva initiative" was unveiled earlier this
month as the internationally backed Middle East roadmap was stalled by
continued violence between Israel and the Palestinians. "It's a very bad
idea," Richard Perle said in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Le
Temps in which he also sharply criticised Switzerland for lending support
to the bid. "This intervention is totally inappropriate. By lending its
encouragement to a group of citizens who only represent themselves,
Switzerland is adding to the chaos," he said. "Why doesn't (Swiss foreign
minister) Micheline Calmy-Rey intervene in the Basque problem (in
Spain)?... Why doesn't she do the same in Northern Ireland? That would be
ridiculous," Perle added. "Israel is a democracy with a
democratically-elected government. What would one say if (Israeli Prime
Minister) Ariel Sharon indirectly got involved in a dispute between the
Swiss federal government and a canton?" he said. Switzerland says it has
only acted as a "facilitator" in the initiative drawn up by opposition
left-wing Israeli and prominent Palestinians, which is expected to be
concluded in mid to late November. Israel actively opposes the plan and
said it will only follow the deadlocked roadmap aimed at ending the bloody
three-year conflict with the creation of a Palestinian state by 2005 with
security guarantees for Israel. According to available details, the Geneva
plan calls for shared sovereignty over disputed areas of the holy city of
Jerusalem and would grant the Palestinians 97.5 percent of the West Bank.
In exchange, Palestinian refugees would waive their right of return to
areas now incorporated in the state of Israel as it was founded in 1948.

I don't have to prove myself to you either. I am for free speech for
everyone, including Shannon. However, the left has made it a point to
shut down everyone's free speech and as long as they were top dog, they
were happy. Now that someone has tried to shut them off, they yell very
loud. Just as conservatives on campus, in the papers and in the
community have had to fight the good fight, it's time the left knew what
the good fight was. Go to it. Fight the good fight for free speech.
The campus establishment and the media coddled the left for a long time.
I hope you work very hard for your free speech. Your battle will only

The pro-life movement, specifically the Pro-Life Action League and Joe

other groups came in as friends of the court when they saw their right

to free speech could be affected. Get started. Where were you when
the Rico case against them was started?

Don't be absurd. That sounds rather like what you're suggesting,
however, or maybe something more like sour grapes. I think a more
honorable course of action, if your group or one you agree with is
prevented from speaking, would be to work harder to see that everyone
can speak freely, including people you disagree with, otherwise you're

just a hypocrite when you talk about free speech. Of course there are
hypocrites on both sides of issues who only scream free speech when it

 concerns them. Don't be one.

When it happened to pro-lifers, you said nothing. When it
   happened to

see what happens to your complaints.

That's productive. IOW, since your pet groups have been persecuted,
nobody should be allowed to speak freely.
