Possibly installing Linux as a dual boot may solve your problem.

on the first link, scroll to the very bottom, there is the link to the
pdf documentation.
For Linux it is very much dependant which version/distribution you are
using. For Ubuntu for example you need to install the correct repository
and then install the darktable version from that
