darktable dev's do not build flatpak. you need to contact the flatpak
developers/builders.

gee, you updated to a newer system version and your installed applications
were not updated. that's a distro problem or a sysop who didn't properly
update :(

possibly bad search parameters. I have:
  glib2-devel
  glibc-devel
but on openSUSE Tumbleweed

but I searched "rpm -qa *devel* | grep -i glib"
I cannot tell you the synaptic parameters.

and you quite possibly will have more devel packages missing. you
referred earlier to a command that updated/installed apps necessary for
building. did you do that?

I am definitely not any kind of expert, just experienced somewhat.

the *first* correction I do if a build fails is to "rm -rf" the build
directory.

the second is to completely remove all of the dt git structure and clone
it again.

you told me :) "/usr/bin/c++ is not a full path ..."
then I looked on my system, ls -la /usr/bin/c++
  lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Jun 14 11:13 /usr/bin/c++ -> g++-13*

the directions in dt's github repository are quite good.

good sailing ...

I know little to nothing about *butus/mint but apparently cmake expects
/usr/bin/c++ to be an alias of /usr/bin/g++-(11 or 12)
since you have 11 and 12 installed.

next time consider "mv /opt/darktable /opt/dt441"
so you have a recovery path.

do you actually have gcc-c++ package installed. note you don't say what
distro so package name may differ. I am on openSUSE Tumbleweed.

try importing the files where you changed the xmp files

it is not "madness" but does require learning and understanding.

don't really know but would bet it is. a simple proof would be to try it.

warning, backup your library.db before trying as I believe 4.41 library
is not backward compatible with 4.40.

dt running w/o libicu72. possible problem was version of exiv2 0.28.0.

tks, I didn't mention that I tried that unsuccessfully but have located
a copy of libicu72-72.1-186.13.x86_64.rpm and installing that alongside
libicu73 allows dt to work and I have seen no side-effects yet.

my other four boxes also have libicui18n.so.73 and dt runs.

I did rm the entire build system and git clone and a new build,

but still the same err msg. :(

[darktable-user] libicui18n.so.72 requirement

2023-06-05 Thread Patrick Shanahan
I have several openSUSE Tumbleweed boxes where I compile darktable and can
successfully run except one which notes it is unable to access shared
library libicui18n.so.72

all of my systems have libicui18n.so.73 and can run dt, except this one.
all are very similarly configured. all of my different box compiles are
identical.

what am I missing?

have you tried any the of the options you proposed? have you checked to
see that your db is not corrupted?

no one else can answer these questions you presented yourself and would be
"wasting their time" endeavouring to do so.

and you do know that older versions of dt probably would not be compatible
with your current library?

then the "flatpak" was probably deficient.

in your "normal" system, it would appear in
  /usr/share/icons/hicolor/***/apps/darktable.png
where the *** are the size of the icon such as 24x24.

ls -laR /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ |grep darktable

I have no idea about flatpak

if plasma5/kde5, probably the icon noted in darktable.desktop is not
where the file believes

on the link and oper properties
the dt logo should appear upper left
you can click on that space and provide the correct location.

if you need help locating the icon, just ask

I believe /usr/share/darktable/rawspeed/cameras.xml is the installed
location on openSUSE Tumbleweed as that is where I find it.

the build puts it: share/darktable/rawspeed/cameras.xml which would be
the same.

iiuc, those cameras which provide that information. does your's? if so,
try the newly released dt or master build and see if it works for you.

otherwise one would need to definitively know which cameras provide that
info and that they are supported in that manner. I really doubt that
anyone knows for sure *all* of the camera models that provide that info.

darktable does not do that, but uses lensfun. you may look at:

not so hard if you set up your own server at home and use the storage on
it or an attached drive, and *much* cheaper.

problem is sql, work-a-round is to clear "collections filter". panel is
immediately below "collections" on left panel.

problem is known
but I have not see a PR yet.

and it is indeed *broken*.

I backup to two external drives and keep one in my barn which is detached
from the house and far enough away that a fire would not jump to it. I
feed my birds every day from the barn so I rotate the drives when feeding
the birds.

total cost forever not counting power is the original cost of the external
drives.

specific, I am not aware, but ...

install dt on the new computer
copy the images and accompanying xmp files to new computer
copy the macbook equivalent "/home/user/.config/darktable" to the new
computer, /home//.config/darktable

import the relocated image files on the new computer

and except for dt needing to recreate the cache files, you should be good
to go are retain all edits and configurations.

gud luk,

everything is about timing. the database is updated when you close dt,
iiuc. if one experiences a system crash, all bets on anything are off.
but the edits are not lost and anyone experiencing frequent system crashes
should expect to need to perform recovery actions for anything being
written during the crash.

ps: anyone now days experiencing "frequent" system crashes should identify
the cause and correct it rather than complain about loosing data, which
*should* be expected.

you missed it. dt writes xmp files as I edit or open images and on import
while it applies the default and scripted settings.

open config
go to storage
look at xmp
"write sidecar file for each image"
select "on import" or "after edit"

if your computer is crashing, you have insufficient memory or bad memory
or another hardware problem. dt "should" not cause your computer to crash
and writing to disk, writing the db file, should not either. maybe you
have a bad disk. at any rate, your edits should be saved in the xmp files
and nothing should be lost even if your db becomes corrupted, just import
again subject files.

note for dt: sidecar = xmp

then why not set dt to write to the db as you use it instead of waiting
until you are done?

you can set it to update when you open dt.

I assume you are speaking of the db update from program changing, rather
than adding/changing images.

then perhaps you should file a bug report if locale doesn't solve your
needs. I don't have the problem as I have little need for special chars.

running a "test" on the subject disk is good, but utilizing another
storage method will give you more troubleshooting information.

run on a local disk, completely, and ensure you do not have local
problems. then the external disk or the transfer method between it an
your computer become *very* suspect.

trouble shooting is not hit and miss. it is more about removing concern
about the most readily available objects and then diving deeper.

you are still not eliminating possibilities with your current approach.

try first to export to a local disk.

also try to another removable drive.

I doubt "22.04" is the problem.

bigest thing for me is the additional icon taking space where a toggle
would suffice.

as a very long time user, I feel that much has been added and complexity
of the display/user interface grown immensely. and I speak as a rank

you can also set the display to "filemanager layout" instead of "zoomable
lighttable layout" (don't know why two icons with long text taking much
space) and the number of images in the layout make no difference in the
size of the thumbnails displayed.

to many choices

fwiw: statements provide little assistance w/o distro, program version
numbers and computer environments, kinda like buying a ford transmission
for an gm engine and wondering why it will not bolt up.

I also have and frequently use a D500 and have experienced no difficulties
developing the pictures with darktable on openSUSE linux. and at
https://www.darktable.org/resources/camera-support/, the D500 is
recognized as supported with WB Presets and Noise Profile but no Custom
Matrix.

your difficulty is undoubtedly local.

I don't understand "repairs correctly". dt on start will recreate
necessary config files, but I am sure it will not interrogate your system
to make "corrections". and I do not believe that "user.css" is a
necessary file unless *you* plan on making css changes on your box.

you did not provide the version of dt and dt is a moving target?

the provided script appears for me on openSUSE Tumbleweed at
  /data/darktable/tools/extract_wb_from_images.sh

and completes w/o error

  Extracting WB presets.

  preparing tarball...
  cleaning up...

Extracting wb presets done, post the following file to us:
  /home/paka/darktable-whitebalance-20220508.tar.gz

and I cannot read/translate other than English.

on linux, the correct user css file would be:
~/.config/darktable/user.css

> My second system is displaying correctly the recent amended file with the

have no idea to what you refer ???

> Any idea where to look and fix the problem?

no.

I can provide my user.css if you wish, or you can run dt w/o a user.css
and it should be fine.

note: dt recreates missing configuration files when started:
~/.config/darktable/
