Oh. Thanks!

I am only an amateur, plus my folders that become film rolls already
have unique names (date+short_description), so I either never noticed or
forgot about that.

Now it got me thinking that it may solve one of my organizational
problems (how to have separate folders, not for DT's eyes, but next to
the raw's)

Thanks.

Maybe it would not be to hard to optionally include the parent(s) folder
name(s). Say, suppose a folder structure is:

|
|-20200401
| |-raw
| |-whateverA
|-20200402
| |-raw
| |-whateverA
| |-whateverB
|-20200403
|-raw
|-whateverC

Importing the "raw" folders as rolls could result is names as

"20200401_raw", "20200402_raw", "20200403_raw"

if using 1 parent, instead of "raw", "raw", "raw".

Guilermo, thanks for good answer. I will try that. It fits my needs as I do
not have subfolders with more images, but I do have that "nef" folder level
for hundreds of my galleries.
Pascal, I was not going to rename the actual filesystem folder, I like to
keep the name as it is. I wanted to have filmroll to have custom name, like
label or something. I hope some future versions of DT will have that
ability.

I like the software! Keep rolling!

Select the images to place in a new folder (or all off them) and just move
them into a new folder. That's the way to rename a folder

Re: [darktable-user] Lighttable - filmroll question

2020-04-14 Thread Guillermo Rozas
Hi,
there is no way to rename folders or film rolls within darktable, they
map exactly what the folder is named on the system.
You have at least two options:
- in GUI options -> miscellaneous, change the "number of folder levels
to show in lists" to something that gives you unique names when using
the "film rolls" filter. I use 2, so I can have subfolders with the
same name inside an uniquely named parent
- instead of using the "film rolls" filter, use the "folders" filter
(although any level will also show the pictures inside the sublevels,
so it can be a problem for nested structures)
I find the first option better, unless you have very long folder names.

Guillermo

[darktable-user] Lighttable - filmroll question

2020-04-14 Thread Nikolay Karasev
Hi, I hope I am sending inquiry correctly (first time here)

In Lighttable when importing images I selected folder as this is most
convenient way to work with my images. All my folders (with 1000s of
images) are organized so the raw files are in subfolder called "nef" (i.e.
nikon raw). When filmroll imported this way, all I see is a list of rolls
that all have the same name: nef(92) where the number shows count of images
in that folder. I expected to find a way to rename this roll to something I
can recognize, but I cannot find any such option.

How do I deal with this?
Thanks
