How to reproduce:

Debootstrap runs a while, and finally gives up with this error:

This doc is outdated. Debian-Installer now uses devfs.

The net-retriever just get's the value mirror/http/proxy or

Would someone like to put up a web page, possibly in the d-i wiki,
describing this, and keep it up-to-date? Then the HOWTO can simply refer
to that page.
I already have done this yesterday:

Hi !
I'm still running on Mandrake :-)
I want to setup my local deb mirror. For this, I set up so far s
debootstrap-based sarge in a User-Mode-Linux environment. I used this to
make my own metapackages, which simply pull in other packages or do the
right cfengine magick.
I put all of the needed
I have tried with pxe following the tutorials (
...
but it didn't work either. The dhcp, pxe and tftp is working
but it didn't load the kernel.
For me PXE was successful, see
wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?DebianInstallerNetbootPXE
I have slightly differnet paths in pxelinux.cfg/default file,
after selecting German/Germany
everything goes to German translations EXCEPT first line:
Choose Language :-)
This is intentional (we should make this a FAQ:-)) so that people
mistakenly choosing the wrong language may still change this easily.
Or make it multi-language.
I once made a custom Mandrake 8.2 installation system for my office where I
just had a floppy and all the rest was downloaded over the network.
This involved basically a modified SYSLINUX.CFG on the netboot disk that had
a entry like
label mundn
kernel vmlinuz
append initrd=network.rdz
The INSTALLER-HOWTO refers to
http://lists.debian.org/debian-testing/2003/debian-testing-200311/msg00098.html
for a reference to pxeboot. However, this document is, as of today, no
longer correct. For example, we now use devfs.
This is how I got it working. I did not follow steps 1. to 6.
With the current

I tried to automate the setup somewhat.
Basically, I made a normal install and copied the resulting
Not with the released images. The problem is that d-i is too big for one
floppy with all the translations. It is possible to cut out a lot of
that stuff, and possibly use a custom kernel, and cram it onto one
floppy that is able to get on the net and download the rest of the
installer and do
Basically you need to build all d-i packages.
I added your howto the DebianInstaller WIKI, feel free to modify
http://wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?DebianInstallerModify if you see any
error.

In the keyboard-layout choser, you can only select german (no-dead-keys),
but not the other german format with dead keys.
The translation of no-dead-keys into ohne Tottasten is not good. It
means without Death-keys. Better would be ohne tote Tasten.
