I think the difference in runlevel settings for the init script I saw
between Etch and Lenny/Sid are just due to my usage of insserv ;-).
So the package may just be fine with the update-rc.d line suggested
not make any difference.
Attached patch fixes this problem. I separated the two checks in one function
each as I think thats a clean way to do it.

I now tried with X.org from testing again and first found the same
problem, but when I remove
Option "AccelMethod" "exa"
(Option "Accel" "True" is still there)
from xorg.conf at least 2d speed is up to normal again. I am a bit puzzled

X.org 7.0 and logging out from KDE does not hang anymore again.

X.org 7.0 and 2D performance is back to normal (i.e. accerelated) again.
Also glxgears works like a charm.

Hello, Savage DRI driver does not work with X.org 7.1.1, it works
okay with 7.0.22.
With 7.1.1 I the window that glxgears opens remains black. glxinfo
