Bug#431571: claws-mail: unison-synchronized hosts lose read and color

I keep my user-directory synchronized when moving from one machine to the other with the unison-gtk package. With the current version of claws-mail, every time I change machines, the messages in Inbox lose all color label information, and all read/unread status (all messages show as unread). I have quite a large inbox, and losing track of which messages are read/unread is somewhat of a serious issue. For me, losing the ability to color-code messages is also a significant degradation. I recently upgraded from sylpheed, and vanilla sylpheed/unison-gtk handle synchronization just fine. Note that the Inbox is not the only mail folder affected, it is just where I feel the most pain. Which directory is the 'user directory' you're referring to? your $HOME? $HOME/.claws-mail? $HOME/Mail (or equivalent)? Are you syncing .* files in that dir? $HOME, all of it. unison syncs everything that isn't specifically excluded, so all .* files are being synced. I have been doing this for years, unison has worked really well for me up until this moment. That's strange, have you upgraded unison recently? Claws Mail has not changed the way it deals with this files AFAIK. Are you preserving timestamps when syncing? Good question. unison docs are kind of murky on the subject, but this experiment in my ~/Mail/inbox/ would indicate timestamps are being preserved: Before sync: -rw-r--r-- 1 ckoen ckoen 10 2007-07-03 22:41 .mh_sequences -rw--- 1 ckoen ckoen 21166 2007-06-23 19:19 .sylpheed_cache -rw--- 1 ckoen ckoen 20522 2007-07-03 22:41 .sylpheed_claws_cache -rw--- 1 ckoen ckoen 556 2007-07-03 22:41 .sylpheed_mark -rwx-- 1 ckoen ckoen5000 2006-09-03 14:58 .xmhcache After sync: -rw-r--r-- 1 ckoen ckoen 24 2007-07-04 14:53 .mh_sequences -rw--- 1 ckoen ckoen 21166 2007-06-23 19:19 .sylpheed_cache -rw--- 1 ckoen ckoen 20493 2007-07-04 14:53 .sylpheed_claws_cache -rw--- 1 ckoen ckoen 556 2007-07-04 14:53 .sylpheed_mark -rwx-- 1 ckoen ckoen5000 2006-09-03 14:58 .xmhcache (I shut down claws-mail just before 15:00) Mmm, let me picture your scenario more detailed, so you: 1) download mail in host A 2) operate with mail in A 3) then manually? periodically? sync A - host B 4) open mail in host B and flags are gone? 5) download mail in host B? only modify flags in B? 6) sync back changes in B - host A 7) go to A and flags are gone? Is that picture correct? I'm missing something? BTW, I have been thinking that this should really be considered a data loss kind of bug. I have a couple of large mail folders where the color coding was quite important to me. I did not discover that syncing was going to blow away all my color coding until my first sync quite some number of days after installing claws-mail. At this point the only way to maybe get my color coding back is to restore from my last backup, which of course puts intervening e-mails at risk of loss. Or revert to sylpheed and a backup from about that era, which puts even more e-mails at risk. Well, I'd bet it's a unison problem, which is the one who's moving the files, but still not sure of understanding where the problem can be. regards, -- Ricardo Mones http://people.debian.org/~mones «You worry too much about your job. I don't remember exactly why I switched to identify first, but I think it was required by some perl lib which was not dealing with non-images nicely (return an error to llgal when retrieving image dimensions, for instance). Bug#431901: [Pkg-ltsp-devel] Bug#431901: ltsp-client: XDMCP and power off
В сообщении от 6 июля 2007 01:38 Petter Reinholdtsen написал(a): I do not quite understand what your proposal is. Can you explain what the patch does, and why? Why do you want to power of the terminal using the XDMCP login screen? Why not use the power button on the machine itself? My apologises for unclear explanation. The startx-off screen script shuts down terminal immediately after X reset. Thus, pressing 'Disconnect' button in gdm, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or just exiting from X session follow with shutdown. One can, of course, simply press the power button on machine (on ATX machine - for ~4 sec). I just propose an alternate way to do that. -- Regards, Al Nikolov jid: [EMAIL PROTECTED] irc: clown uin: 312108671 pgp fingerprint: 4B50 F1E3 080C 21A2 91F4 8BF0 CD60 3B5A 2ECF 984B

Selon Yves-Alexis Perez [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Waiting for #422349 to be fixed, I guess I'd be ok to build xfce4-session against dbus and add the Recommends. But still user would have to add himself to powerdev group, so README read is still mandatory. Huggie, what do you think? Regards, -- Yves-Alexis Maybe dbus in the Recommends is too strong (libdbus-1-3 already recommends dbus). And since this cannot work without hal (depends on dbus), hal at least should be in the Suggests (same level as for sudo). I agree that reading the README is still mandatory (does not this apply to any package ?), but IMHO adding a user to a group is more easy than dealing with /etc/sudoers (though the latter is not so difficult). As far as I understand #422349 fix (when available) which is dbus related will not be beneficial to xfce4-session if xfce4-session is not built against dbus. Best regards, Pascal D.

In such a case, the value of the key is specified as a plural: for example, string(s). The multiple values should be separated by a semicolon. Those keys which have several values should have a semicolon as the trailing character. Semicolons in these values need to be escaped using \;. However, the field Categories in X-Debian-Help-info.desktop is Categories=X-Debian-Help which is a single value. The standard does not mandate a trailing semicolon in that case. So either desktop-file-validate is overzealous or the standard is imprecise. Hmm, maybe it's a bug of desktop-file-validate. -- LI Daobing -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello Kyler, AMR is in use by many mobile phones (such as my T68i). When a memo (sound recording) is uploaded, it arrives as an AMR file. Although current upstream code (CVS) automatically builds the format plugin if it's detected, I'm afraid I can't even include support for amr-wb or amr-nb in non-free: - amr-wb and amr-nb are not official Debian packages; - it seems i'm not allowed to build and distribute SoX built with amr-nb/amr-wb. Bug#330227: util-linux: Please add LSB formatted dependency info in init.d script
You asked during debconf what the correct dependency information for the hwclock.sh init.d script should be. Here is a small update. As /etc/localtime no longer is a symlink into /usr/, but a copy of the timezone information, the only thing needed is visible /dev/rtc and a mounted /etc. For stopping, it need a mounted local file system. I suggest using $local_fs for that. Because of this, I believe this dependency information is correct: ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: hwclock # Required-Start:mountdevsubfs # Required-Stop: $local_fs # Default-Start: S # Default-Stop: 0 6 ### END INIT INFO The hwclockfirst.sh script is removed now, so I do not provide a header for that script. Please add this header soon. the util-linux package is one of the two base packages without dependency information in the init.d script, and it would be great if we could start verifying the correctness of the base system soon. Huggie, what do you think? 422349 will be fixed by policykit/consolekit (hopefully before lenny otherwise I'll tear my hair out :)) Maybe dbus in the Recommends is too strong (libdbus-1-3 already recommends dbus). Yes, I hadn't quite realised we weren't doing this already. I was testing 422349 with the USB device mounting bits. We should certainly build with dbus support. Bug#416266: freeradius: rlm_perl has symbol lookup errors when loading additional perl modules
Enrik Berkhan wrote: Alan DeKok schrieb: b) The output of perl -MExtUtils::Embed -e ldopts / ccopts should stop telling applications that linking will work. It won't. It's lying to you. If the libperl-dev package isn't installed, perl ... ldopts should return an error. That's completely right. Maybe you should reply on Debian Bug #186778 (http://bugs.debian.org/186778). But the package maintainers don't seem to be interested in it :( An alternative explanation makes it clearer that this is strictly a debian issue. RTDL_GLOBAL is disabled on Debian for a number of good reasons. This means that an application can link to libfoo.so, and it's symbols aren't exported to other libraries. This limitation prevents a number of bugs from occurring. However, there are cases where you *want* other libraries to use those symbols, as here. Since the system has shared libraries enabled, this means that an application cannot know at compile time which libraries it needs to link to. In this case, Perl supports dynamically loading of Perl modules... which includes shared libraries. If an application links to Perl, *and* the perl scripts load modules dynamically, *then* it will load modules at run-time. Which modules are to be used is not known at compile time. So the application cannot link to every shared library it needs, because it doesn't know which library it needs. Since RTLD_GLOBAL is turned off, the application knows it needs a library, links to it, but those symbols aren't exported to other shared libraries using that one. Since shared library dependencies are broken (Data/Dumper.so doesn't depend on libperl.so), the correct libraries aren't loaded, and the application breaks. Since no static library of libperl.a is supplied by the system, the application can't link to it. If it did exist, it's symbols could be exported, because it isn't a shared library. a) enable RTLD_GLOBAL b) supply libperl.a along with the Perl headers, so perl -MExtUtils::Embed -e ldopts stops lying to the application developer that linking works c) fix the inter-library dependencies so that loading Data/Dumper.so (etc) will cause libperl.so to be loaded, too. I understand (a) is undesired. It turns out that linking to libperl.a is almost unworkable, too. FreeRADIUS uses libtool to do cross-platform linking. This means it's very difficult to control which libperl is used for linking. The appropriate solution is (c). If there's no RTDL_GLOBAL, then the ONLY way applications can link to shared libraries at run time is if the shared library dependencies are correct. If this isn't done, then Debian systems are the *only* systems where FreeRADIUS can't use libperl. All other systems have working libraries. On top of everything else, 'perl -MExtUtils::Embed -e ldopts' outputs -lperl, but there is NO libperl.so on the system. Instead, there's only libperl.so.5.8. So using Perl to link to the Perl libraries doesn't work. Alan DeKok. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I don't agree with you here. It seems to me that we do have permission to distribute modified versions, provided source is included. Secondly, it appears that we must include full source code if we've modified dcraw.c, but we don't do that. We distribute source alongside. All that is required in this license is a link to David's home page. The build process does not modify the file dcraw.c, so the footnote clause is applicable to this version of dcraw that would be included in debian. -- Steve King

Bug#431883: dcraw license does not give permission to distribute modified versions or source alongside
On Fri, 06 Jul 2007, Steve King wrote: You'll notice that we have no permission to distribute modified versions of dcraw.c as required by the DFSG. I don't agree with you here. It seems to me that we do have permission to distribute modified versions, provided source is included. The license does not explicitely grant the ability to create a derivative work and distribute that work. It merely talks about lawfully redistributing this code. Since it fails to specifically grant that right, we must assume that the default state (All rights reserved) applies. Secondly, it appears that we must include full source code if we've modified dcraw.c, but we don't do that. We distribute source alongside. All that is required in this license is a link to David's home page. The build process does not modify the file dcraw.c, so the footnote clause is applicable to this version of dcraw that would be included in debian. dcraw.c itself isn't currently modfied, but the package does form a derivative work at some level. You can likely argue either way, but given that a need to apply a security patch to dcraw would cause us to run afoul of the license makes it rather problematic from where I'm sitting. If the intent is to create a patch only clause, see the LPPL for an example of a patch clause which is permissible. In any case, please contact the upstream author and have him clarify the license situtation. An explicit licencing under the GPL would resolve all of this for us; Dave Coffin would still be free to offer it under additional terms if he so desired. Bug#430863: digikam: Bus error on startup
tags 430863 unreproducible tags 430863 moreinfo severity 430863 important thanks Marcus, Thanks for this bug report. However as we are unable to reproduce and it hasn't been reported elsewhere I'm going to downgrade to severity important: 'major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone' I have now produced an digikam-dbg package which contains the symbols for debugging and I would ask you to install this package and see if your backtrace produces any further results. digikam-dbg_0.9.2-3 will have to go through NEW processing so may take a few days/ weeks to appear in the archive. If you are able could you download and build an amd64 package from http://people.debian.org/~msp which will give you the digikam-dbg package for amd64. Bug#431962: python-gnome2-desktop: gtksourceview.SourceTagStyle().mask is not writable
Package: python-gnome2-desktop Version: 2.18.0-2 Severity: normal Tags: upstream Hello. It seems that the 'mask' attribute of gtksourceview.SourceTagStyle objects is not writable, but instead derived whenever SourceTagSytle.foreground or SourceTagStyle.background are set (see gtksourceview.override). I see no reason for this to be this way, since it breaks setting all three foreground, background and mask, letting the TagStyle object figure out which colors to finally use. Which works from C (it's what gedit does, see string_to_tag_style() in gedit-languages-manager.c). All this makes it necessary when working in Python code to check the value of mask, and refraining from setting foreground or background colors according to its value, which seems more unpythonic to me than having the attribute writable. But it's impossible with the gui to set the path of pictures. Is it a real bug ? If you need any informations, feel free to ask Thanks Benoît Tonnerre.

Bug#391720: Package logwatch doesn't install default config
Le 23 04 2007, à 12:27:13 +0200, Willi Mann ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) disait: Hi! May I suggest you just install the default local.conf ? It's not empty, and some sysadmin (like me) are used to edit files in /etc/whatever just after installing... Sorry to bother you with that after 6 month but: What did you mean by local.conf .. not empty? As far as I can see, all non-empty files and the directory layout are created. Do you still miss anything? I would like to avoid empty files. Hi, Sorry to answer late. As I remember the problem, the file local.conf wasn't created by default install. Il the /usr/share/doc/logwatch directory you can found a file with all the option explained and positionned to the default. That's what I mean by not empty. If this file was copied in /etc/whatever, one can configure logwath by simply editing this file, and not have the burden to find a sample local.cf to copy there before configuring logwatch. As stated, this is only a whishlist :-) Cheers, -- KaTeznik [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#431974: ITP: radiance -- Lighting Simulation and Rendering System
Package: wnpp Owner: Bernd Zeimetz [EMAIL PROTECTED] Severity: wishlist * Package name: radiance Version : 3.8 Upstream Author : Greg Ward [EMAIL PROTECTED] * URL : http://radsite.lbl.gov/radiance/index.html * License : The Radiance Software License, Version 1.0 BSD-style, http://radsite.lbl.gov/radiance/misc/license.txt Programming Lang: C Description : Lighting Simulation and Rendering System Radiance is intended to aid lighting designers and architects by predicting the light levels and appearance of a space prior to construction. The package includes programs for modeling and translating scene geometry, luminaire data and material properties, all of which are needed as input to the simulation. The lighting simulation itself uses ray tracing techniques to compute radiance values (ie. the quantity of light passing through a specific point in a specific direction), which are typically arranged to form a photographic quality image. The resulting image may be analyzed, displayed and manipulated within the package, and converted to other popular image file formats for export to other packages, facilitating the production of hard copy output. The current plan is to maintain the package in a team which is located at the Darmstadt University of Technology. We'll probably provide optimized packages for the different sub-architectures, similar to the packaging scheme used for ATLAS. -- Bernd Zeimetz [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://bzed.de/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. reassign 431837 uim retitle 431837 kde-devel is a too coarse grained build-dep thanks Julien Cristau wrote: On Thu, Jul 5, 2007 at 16:25:01 +0200, Michael Biebl wrote: TBH, I think the dependencies of kde-devel are broken, if they pull in hal as a build-dependency. It rather seems that uim should not build-depend on kde-devel, as this package is just a metapackage for users, not meant for other packages: This metapackage includes official KDE modules that are useful to developers, including KDE's software development kit (SDK), Qt3's designer tool, and all core KDE header and development packages. Agreed, I'm thus reassigning the bug report to uim. uim should use more specific build-dependencies. Bug#431971: NIS mapped autofs hooks do not start at boot due to wrong order
Hi, NIS starts AFTER autofs due to lexicografic order. That prevents NIS maps working at boot. Moving to 20 solves the issue. Of course, you need to check that autofs starts after ALL other possible back-end engines for maps. That's unfortunately also an etch issue :-/ yes, sadly the solution was decided upon too close to the Etch release, so it didn't get included. The problem with your fix is that there are services that start at 20, sort lexicographically before autofs, and might already need the filesystems that autofs provides (imagine apache and atftpd). The proper solution (which has reached testing after the release) is to move nis back to 18 and portmap to 17. See #400952 for the main thread on this topic. Bug#431895: #431895 - nautilus: Invalid memory reference
severity 431895 grave found 431895 2.18.1-3 thanks Opening a folder in the desktop It happens to me even if I only *select* a file or folder on either the desktop or any opened nautilus window. Raising the severity since this makes nautilus completely unusable. I have a doubt that the bug may be outside nautilus itself (or not only in it). I actually did not upgrade nautilus recently and it used to work a couple of days ago. The only nautilus* package I've upgraded is nautilus-cd-burner (plus libnautilus-burn4). Unfortunately, my /usr partition is rather full and I can't try this with all the gnome -dbg packages installed. thanks -- damJabberID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Hi, But you are right that the description is a little long winded and could use some pruning. I'll see what I can do in the next version. Yes, please. Especially the part of mimms history is not very relevant. The description should say what it does or does not do, but should not describe what it did do in the past and how that got resolved.
